@laughslikeaseagull
Iâm sorry WHAT
where can I read this interview?
Oof I havenât been on here in a while, hi again!
please
just once
can we have this trope
NOT GO WRONG SOMEHOW
during the wga/sag-aftra strike, we may see:
film in other countries continuing as usual, but those actors/writers are NOT crossing picket lines! other countries unions often have rules where they canât strike in solidarity with american unions.
new indie movies separate from hollywood studios. indie movies can continue as usual too, and may even use union actors if they follow certain guidelines and/or get permission from the union.
awards shows, although they might look different and may be postponed. if there are award shows during the strike, thereâs a chance they will just be live conferences announcing winners with no celebrations attached.
celebrities will not be promoting their work during this timeâ that WOULD be crossing the picket line! yes, this includes social media. they can still post on social media, as long as it doesnât pertain to their work.
a lot more reality tv. this happened the last time there was a writers strike, and it will certainly happen again.
actors will also not be able to campaign for awards. this awards season is going to be a strange one.
propaganda from hollywood. they are already trying to flip the narrative by claiming they can break the unions, but they canât. the strikers have the power. stand with them for however long this takes!
Especially with regard to that first point: There are going to be instances where Hollywood productions being filmed abroad with foreign contract agreements that precede the strikes are going to continue filming. For example:
âHouse of the Dragonâ can continue filming in the U.K. despite the SAG-AFTRA actors strike, Variety can reveal. Just as the U.S. actors unio
The HBO seriesâ cast is composed of primarily U.K. actors who are working under contracts governed by the local union, Equity. As such, the series is technically allowed to continue filming because Equity members arenât legally allowed to strike in solidarity with the U.S. union.
[âŠ]Sources indicate that the U.K.âs strict union laws have prevented an extensive show of solidarity from Equity, which canât legally call a strike to support SAG-AFTRA due to restrictive British legislation.
Equity posited a number of scenarios under which actors on âHouse of the Dragonâ can continue to work. The guidance for actors who are Equity members but not SAG-AFTRA members who are working in the U.K. on an Equity contract for a U.S. producer is that they continue to work as they have no protection from being dismissed or sued by the producer. It is the same guidance for SAG-AFTRA members who are not Equity members in a similar production. For SAG-AFTRA members on an Equity contract under Global Rule 1, which states that a SAG-AFTRA member cannot work on any project, anywhere in the world, that is not covered under a SAG-AFTRA agreement, the guidance is again to continue working.â
Obviously, every country will have different laws, but I bolded that middle part because I think itâs especially important for everyone to be aware that some of these actors will be hamstrung by local anti-union laws that dictate the terms of their contracts. This is usually not the fault of the actors working under those contracts, but rather, the fault of the politicians who passed the anti-union legislation. So if you see Hollywood productions that are preceding under foreign union contracts, please do your research about the production specifics and union laws in that country before you start railing against the cast and crew. Itâs possible there will be some instances in future where condemnation of the cast and crew is actually justified, but nine times out ten itâs going to be the fault of anti-union laws wherever filming was already contracted to take place, and your rage should be directed at the politicians who create and uphold those laws, not at workers.

oops please reblog this because I accidentally set it to 24 hours and we'll never get an answer if this doesn't breach (transmasc) containment by then

Itâs literally that simple
Friend: âhey my son canât concentrate on his homework. He chooses to do literally anything else everytime. He said his head doesnât feel like it.â
Me: âDid you give him music?â
Friend: âNo! No tech until heâs done! He doesnât need more distracted.â
Me:
âk, bring me the childâ
*Go to her house*
*points to the obviously ADHD boy struggling with his homework*
Me: âso your head doesnât feel like doing homework?â
Son: âyeah. It would rather do ANYTHING else.â
Me: *unwrapping earbuds* here, listen to this for an hour while you do it.
French voice: 1hr later
Son: âk Iâm done! :-)â
Friend: âwow, whatâd you give him? Concentra, Adderall, Ritalinâœâ
Me: âSweet Dreams by Eurythmicsâ and some lo-fi.
I-Iâm gonna try this for myself
Go for it! From what Iâve seen, everyone has a different genre but instrumental (no words) seems to be key. I guess Sweet Dreams words are so ethereal, ADHD just rolls with it????
For me, orchestral covers of songs I know work best since my ADHD is using the extra hyperfocus to remember and keep up with words. Have fun experimenting!!
I have some arrangements of songs I did that I just loop. Mind you, these are, like, 1-3 minutes long, but the drone really helps with focus
Y'all I just listen to Lana Del Rey. Would recommend because with instrumentals I tend to focus on where actual words would be but with Lanaâs stuff her vocals sound like music but itâs words
really wish I couldâve done this when I was spending 4 hours on every page of math homework in the 90âČs. Fast forward to my last year of college when I finally figured out I could just listen to Blackmill and blaze through an entire semester of college math like it was nothing. Find the study methods that work for you!!! Help kids find the study methods that work for them! Â
It takes me all day to do simple chores because i keep getting distracted. If i put in earbuds with upbeat music Iâm done with everything in a couple hours AND i feel really good and probably danced a little i.e. exercised.
Try songs in another language - one you donât speak. The idea is that since you donât understand the words, your brain doesnât go âOh hey, someone is talking to meâ and thus you can maintain your focus. Although, this is something probably  best suited to writing. But on the other hand, if it works, it works. Personally, I like Opera. BUT, I advise against using Pandoraâs Opera Station. At least in the free version, it either cycles through the same ten Singers/Albums or drifts off into instrumental covers. On the other hand, itâs great for background noise when gaming. Just be sure you have an ad blocker running. You will also have to confirm that you are listening every hour or so.Â
Followup on the lofi front: I recommend the following channels. Chillhop Music:Â Â https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOxqgCwgOqC2lMqC5PYz_Dg
In particular, I recommend the relax/study livestream radio. Or just about any of their mixes. Fantasic Music:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZyyXrEF2WCZbI653PFNBbA Both the Chill and the Jazz playlists are excellent. Jazzhop Cafe:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi8wqezBudeAiTdKOX571ug
Their ChillMix videos are the best. Jazzhop Cafe Archive:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKbDâQKXKosHmSXarqYUeg Name is self-evident. I believe ChilledCow also has a livestream, but I honestly prefer Chillhop. YMMV https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSJ4gkVC6NrvII8umztf0Ow
EDIT: Oh, Pandoraâs Vitamin String Quartet IS good, but it tends to drift off into New Age type stuff. Adblocker thing still applies though.Â
Iâve seen is said elsewhere but I also highly recommend video game soudtracks! Especially if you donât tend to enjoy the more orchestral music. They are usually engineered to make you focus better (ie. not want to stop playing the game)
âportal 2: songs to test byâ got me through all my college math classes

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Things that are too repetitive or things that SHOULD have words but donât fuck with me, and I canât have words.
My all-time go to is the band Explosions in the Sky. The entire âPost-rockâ genre is great but some do have lyrics (even made up language like Sigur Ros bothers me cause thatsâŠwordsâŠ). Mogwai is good as well usually, if you donât mind like long periods of feedback.Â
But yeah, because itâs totally unvocal and pretty and chill but also musically fantastic, Explosions in the Sky is what I pull out when I really have to focus.Â
Explosions in the Sky is ALSO what I put on when I have to drive screaming cats to the vet. IDK why but they do really seem to like it.Â
Krishna Das and mantras in general work for me, will try other recs.
I have a playlist of Soviet World War 2 songs. Upbeat but Iâm not distracted by the words.
The essential Lizzo playlist on apple music is where itâs at, I need lyrics to focus my background chatter into a single train of thought so I can use the foreground narrator to do my boring admin.
whenever i see a noir detective in the rain iâm like yeah man⊠thatâs exactly where youâre supposed to be
Noir detectives are actually meant to be stressed, itâs their natural state. A Noir detective with nothing to be stressed about, will quickly revert to a more highly stressed state than normal.
Noir detectives require stress to be healthy, thatâs why itâs a good idea to make sure that an Inside Detective has access to regular difficult and alarming cases to solve and also a shower they can stand in (fully clothed or not) to agonize, since they canât go out in the rain. Donât be alarmed if they bang their little fists on the tile and howl, thatâs a normal part of the display. If they sit on the floor and cry, though, they may be overstimulated and need some hard alcohol and a nap to help them settle down.Â
It can be difficult, but if you have a friend with a Femme Fatale, arranging a (supervised) playdate can be enriching to both of them.
itâs important to allow your Noir Detective to bundle your Femme Fatale into an airplane at night at least once a year, as it provides them both with a rare excuse to let themselves openly cry for emotional catharsis and clear out vestigial tear ducts, which are dangerous to clean at home. in particularly difficult cases where neither has cried for years, artificial rain may be required to provide some cover (and will also provide a humidity boost, an underlooked but important part of trenchcoat health). Be sure to provide your Noir Detective with additional replacement trenchcoats after airplane enrichment, as the Femme Fatale will probably steal his to line her nest.
