Give me less "being kind requires zero effort" and more "being kind is worth the effort it takes."
that comment about how you should not borrow grief from the future has saved me multiple times from spiraling into an inescapable state of anxiety. like every time i find myself thinking about how something in the future could go wrong i remember that comment and i think to myself: well i never know, it might get better. it might not even happen the way i think it will and if it does happen and it is sad and bad ill be sad about it then, when it happens. and it’s somehow soo freeing
this sucks im going to kill (remembers suicide jokes are bad for my mental health) the president of the United States. (end statement)
My mental state is dependent on when the Cotton Candy Blizzard is in season and I’m ecstatic to announce it will be bACK ON MARCH 30TH THIS IS NOT AT DRILL WE’RE ONLY THIRTEEN DAYS AWAY GUYS
“I would die for my kids” your children want an apology
your made up scenario isn’t real (shocker) and makes no difference when your kids are starving for your acknowledgment of the pain you caused them. you’re only performing the role of a good parent, without having to actually do any heavy lifting

#you'll die for me. awesome. will you break a habit for me? will you learn something new for me? will you fix your mistakes for me? #dying for me is surprisingly easy - it's often passive and instantaneous and you only need to do it once #will you do the hard thing of constantly and consistently putting in the work again and again and again?

“They’re just looking for attention.”
Oh, a human being is seeking a social response? Human being, the social animal wired to make and track social connection? A human desires the vital blood that permitted their species to survive for millennia? The human being who was born completely helpless and primed in every way by nature to seek attention and help from their community?
Wow that’s crazy. How embarrassing. Humiliating even. Should we isolate them from community? Should we call Wire Mother?
Just got a chatgpt ad where the use case was "can't decide a new years resolution". I can't think of anything more sad than needing a robot to tell you what your own ambitions are. Loser shit.

If you haven't heard, the em dash has been getting a lot of attention lately…
Because it was trained on pirated work—including freely accessible online writing (like fanfic, academic texts)—ChatGPT picked up patterns and quirks native to human writing.
Including (sigh) the em dash.
There are other victims here (RIP tapestry and delve 🫠), but the appropriation of the em dash—a punctuation mark beloved by writers everywhere—feels especially personal.
A kind of low-grade panic is ensuing. Writers who once memed their own em dash overuse—the greatest punctuation mark ever to grace the control-freak’s lexicon, frankly—are suddenly backing away to avoid accusations.
No. More. We have centuries of dash-abusing writers behind us. We will not sit quietly while AI repurposes our beloved stilted aside—or the just-one-more clarification the sentence demands—or the dramatic pause your comma could never—etc.
You don’t write like AI—AI writes like you.
Defend the em dash.
(Feel free to download/share/stick it where it matters!)
y'all might hate me for this one
So as always let me clarify that I do not defend the damage Celine caused to Rumi and others as consequence, it was wrong of her to do and it's understandable to hate her for the negative impact she had.
BUT...
I hate when only the one who breaks the cycle gets sympathy.
I know this is sensitive territory so I'm treading lightly but from I feel like the attitude towards Celine, Grandma in Encanto and Mum in Turning Red is:
"You're suffering through the effects trauma has had on your family, taught the same lessons that we sympathise with the MC for knowing, only ever had good intentions and the want to keep your family - that you have lost pieces of due to the very thing you fear - safe, especially the child that is rebelling against the fragile safety you've convinced yourself of instead of facing the fact you are extremely traumatized and now you're being confronted with your literal worst nightmare - the very reason for why you've acted like this - but yeah... You're a completely evil bitch, hate you, bye."
Like don't get me wrong, totally understandable to hate these characters/their real life equivalence but do they just not get any pity or understanding?? any at all??
Keep in mind the Breaking Cycle Main Character almost always has support to break that cycle - whether it's other family, a friend, a love interest etc. They have someone telling them that they can be different, they can be free while the Mother/Grandmother etc does not get that.
They're just going through the daily motions of a strained life they're trying to live flawlessly in fear of losing everything. They're traumatized with no healthy way to process any of it. They're alone and stuck trying to protect everyone because that's what they've been taught to do.
My problem is when they get reduced to literal villains??
Like you're going to compare this well intentioned albeit extremely bad parent to a motherfucking demon king?? are we having a little giggle??? it's stupid.
So in conclusion:
Totally understandable to hate Celine/other characters mentioned however I think some aspects of the hatred is:
A) often projected from people who some relate their characters to, unfair
B) disproportionate to the hate that actual villains and terrible people receive - "yeah that love interest humiliated, exposed, preyed on and tried to kill the MC while almost aiding in the mass murder of innocent people but that woman was a really shitty mum so she's obviously worse" (SOME jinu fans I'm glaring at you)
C) sometimes completely disregards their own suffering because apparently pain and trauma is only allowed to be acknowledged if you're moral and likable
Turning Red has a 67% audience rating??? Yalls can't handle seeing the immigrant teenage girlhood experience bye
It's really bc of all the weirdos making it about only the period jokes so it's pRobLemAtic for their poor sweet innocent children to watch
Even tho periods happen to girls on the reg
And boys have had puberty jokes in movies and TV since forever and no one blinks an eye
And bc teenage thirst (GIRLS specifically) is uncomfortable for parents to acknowledge even tho its realistic
Movie got hate for being too real bye
who the fuck even uses "pretty boy" as an insult any more I thought we all came to the agreement that all it does is make you sound like you want to stick your tongue down the other guy's throat
i think the scene in strange magic where marianne and the bog king fly through the dark forest is the best depiction of love i've seen in an animated movie but specifically because of the scene where she's trying to fly through the thicket of thorns after him and her wings keep getting caught on the pointed ends so she backs out before getting very far. and the bog king comes back to offer her a hand and holds her close to him with her wings tucked against her back and marianne tucked to his chest as they slip through the thorns. i think it's beautiful and it makes me want to cry every time i see it
It is crazy that “don’t be kind because you’ll be perceived as having ulterior motives” is infiltrating into so many facets of society. Don’t be kind because it might be perceived as flirting. Don’t be kind because it might be perceived as manipulation. Don’t be kind because it might be perceived as fake.
IM GONNA KEEP BEING EXTRA KIND I DONT CARE FUCK YOU
Wait, are people really saying Lucifer was "nerfed"?????
I mean, yeah, he has a limitation, but, he wasn't nerfed, it is completely justified!
He may be a powerful angel (whatever he is in this Universe, a Cherub in Christianity, as far as I know) and we SAW IT when he defeated Adam easily.
OF COURSE Heaven limited his power inside Hell because, well, Hell is supposed to be a punishment for HIM too!! Not just for sinners. What kind of punishment would it be if he just could erase sinners???
Nono, he can't harm them, he HAS to tolerate the kind of people HE created by giving the Sin to humanity.
He's powerful, they proved us that, but he's also a fallen angel with a punishment.
It's his punishment, his limitation, not a nerf.
why are we forgetting that fanfic writers write whatever they want to read because they write for themselves and are just kind enough to share their hours of hard work with us to read for free?
don’t like something? don’t read them
realizing you don’t like what you’re reading? click that back button
not understanding why there are so many fics about x and not enough about y? read the beginning of this post, “fanfic writers write whatever they want to read because they write for themselves”
wanting more fics about y? then you write fics about that thing you want to read for yourself the way others write fanfics about things they want to read for themselves. that’s the point of fanfiction
fandoms become more toxic when we think we have the right to shit on fanfic writers just because what they write for themselves isn’t to our personal liking. so here’s the thing, it’s not to your liking because they didn’t write it for you.
