you have to forgive the printer because it's one of the most machine-ass machines we interact with on a day to day basis. that thing says kerchunk. hardly anything says kerchunk these days. you can't get mad at her when she kerchunks up a little.

I don’t think America should be burned to the ground because I think you people need to start caring more about indigenous people and their land first.
i actually do think too much emphasis is placed on regret rates in the trans community despite said rates being absurdly low. like even if regret rates were at 90% id still support access to gender affirming care because i think people have the right to do whatever the fuck they want with their own bodies. regret is the price you pay for autonomy man get over it.
had a brief flash of memory of a very specific fascinating movie i saw like four years ago, and im trying to find it but the only thing i remember was that is was maybe about the mariel boatlift. so ive been going about this the most rational and only way i know how, which is of course slowly going through every documentary on the cuban refugee crisis i can find. just watched a two hour long interview doc on it. bad news, was not the one i was looking for. good news, i know more about rafts now! one down, a million to go
The core appeal of Willy Wonka is that he's a nigh-omnipotent maniac who uses his near limitless powers over reality to trick shitty people into killing themselves. You can't make him the protagonist of a whimsical coming of age tale - you have to treat him like Jason Voorhees, or Dracula, or any other horror icon. Give him some new victims and new interesting kills and set him loose, that's all audiences want.
I feel like I watched a somewhat different movie...
Gene lobbied hard for Wonka to be introduced as a feeble limping old man who suddenly falls into a forward somersault and leaps to his feet, because "from that moment on the audience won't know if he can be trusted." On a related note: the director told Gene what would happen during the boat scene, but none of the other actors were prepared; to this day, none of them are sure what he ad libbed and what was scripted.
My favorite detail, though, is his performance of Pure Imagination. On the surface, the song is charming and inviting, but if you look closely at him throughout the scene, you'll notice that Gene never blinks. He looks around, down at his feet, up at the trees; his eyes never fully close. He moves erratically, stuttering up and down the steps of the chocolate room. The lyrics are warm and friendly, but his face is blank. He bows to permit his visitors to run amok, but his posture is stiff. He helps Violet and Mike reach a couple of treats, but there is no joy in the gesture. The final post-chorus feels like a dirge, a threat, and a warning, all at once; Wonka sits in repose under a tree, but his eyes are glassy and dispassionate. "There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination; / living there / you'll be free / if you truly / wish / to be.......... "
Fantasy in excess, like anything else, will destroy you; that's the real message of Gene Wilder's Wonka. He taunts his guests with unrepentant disdain, and doesn't care if they live or die. He toys with their emotions, their safety, and their grip on reality, feeling no regret or remorse, no pity, no compassion. Fantasy is colorful and compelling, but it's false, and ultimately empty. Wonka is a walking maladaptive daydream, and as far as I'm concerned, that's the real reason the 1971 film has endured in the culture for so long.
awww the like button turns into a rainbow when you press it! that's so cute...hey staff what's with all the trans women you keep nuking?
i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
would be remiss not to mention that the rainbow notably straight up just removed the trans flag colors from it. like they’re gone. it’s the progress flag minus the trans flag colors.
that’s not the whole flag, now is it
hey staff what the fuck
hey staff don't you think you're being too on-the-nose
HEY STAFF DONT YOU THINK YOU'RE BEING TOO ON-THE-NOSE

also i dont know how i havent thought about this before but the terms yaoi and yuri are super uninclusive when it comes to nonbinary people, as is the way we perceive ships in general. like society has progressed enough to the point where they/them pronouns were an option on the paperwork when i went to the doctor recently. when i was applying to colleges and it asked what gender i identified as, there was an option for nonbinary on almost every single application. almost everyone i know irl at least tries to use they/them pronouns for me. im able to exist in the real world as a nonbinary person.
and yet, on tumblr, one of the most progressive places on the internet, there is no official term for a ship between two nonbinary people. the only term ive ever seen floated has been "yaori," a hodgepodge of yaoi and yuri, which in itself makes being nonbinary seem as if it's something in between being a man and a woman. and while some people may identify like that, being nonbinary is a HUGE umbrella term that encompasses a TON of different gender identities, and simply saying being nonbinary falls in between men and women when it comes to gender completely dismisses nonbinary people who identify otherwise!!
also also, on ao3, there only really exist three main shipping labels. M/M, F/F, and M/F. there's Gen, Multi, and Other, yeah, but no categories for nonbinary ships. we deserve better than to be lumped in with M/M or F/F ships! we don't deserve to be dumped in the Other tag! we deserve to be able to be seen as nonbinary!!
also also also, nonbinary erasure is a huge and real thing!! there exist SO few nonbinary characters in mainstream media, and even those who do exist tend to be pointlessly gendered by their fandoms. prime example: a few years ago i saw a person using he/him for a character who canonically uses they/them. i went and let that person know that said character uses they/them, just in case they were unaware (because SO much of the fandom used he/they for this character for NO REASON) and a bunch of people from all over the fandom got really mad with me because i shouldn't have been policing people's headcanons.
and like. okay. sure. you are allowed to have headcanons. but when it's a FANDOM WIDE THING that a character who uses they/them pronouns is referred to with he/they instead, isn't that an issue???? doesn't that go beyond one person's headcanons?????? doesn't that suggest something about nonbinary erasure as a whole?????????????????
i dont know. unfortunately the lack of nonbinary characters in media means that rarely im in a fandom with all that many nonbinary characters (which is a problem in itself), so i can't really say how big of a problem this is in other fandoms. but people grouping nonbinary identities with male and female genders completely disregards nonbinary people and honestly in my mind kind of defeats the entire point of being nonbinary.
Trixic (enby x women), Toric (enby x men), Enbian (enby x enby), and Diamoric (enby x anyone) are terms to refer to ships. They're for relationship identity in general, but I support the usage of them in shipping culture.
I also hate how yaoi and yuri have been used as a stand-in for "m/m ship" and "w/w ship." As much as I find the jokes funny, that's not what they mean. They're genre terms for queer Japanese stories, which can include non-binary (or x-gender) characters. Yaoi and Yuri aren't exclusive to just m/m and w/w.
HOWEVER, it's still binarizing, and we do need a term for diamoric Japanese stories. But a term shouldn't just be made with fandom shipping in mind; it should be made with Japanese queer storytelling in mind. Which is why I hate "yaori" too.
