"sugar is poison" sugar is your body's preferred fuel choice and if you stop eating entirely you will die
but fr when I see people claiming sugar addiction is this huge problem because when they stop eating sugar their bodies start relentlessly craving it I'm like yeah and the low fuel light on your dashboard means your car is addicted to gasoline like do you fucking hear yourself????
and then they go "but if I tough it out eventually the cravings go away, that means I was addicted to sugar" and I just want to grab them and scream "the cravings go away because your body has deduced that you must be living through some sort of famine and is diverting power to desperately attempt to keep your meat suit running by any means necessary and that's NOT a good thing!! pls believe me there is absolutely no food you could possibly eat—bar actual life-threatening allergens and shit that's gone bad—that could do more damage to you and your future descendants than spending significant amounts of time in famine mode!! you have officially started the slow process of starving yourself to death and it will not save you from the "horrors" of being fat oh my god stop treating your human body like a monster that must be tamed instead of a beautiful and complex organism that is doing it's best to keep your dumb ass alive!!!!"
and then they ignore me or give me some other flawed excuse as to why it's fine to never eat food and I get to go back to shutting up while watching people I love destroy themselves for the sake of being skinny while imagining going full [REDACTED FOR LEGAL REASONS] on the nearest diet brand CEO or health food influencer
also lets be real most people have no idea what an addiction actually is and seem to think it's the same thing as having needs and desires which makes me want to attack John Harvey Kelloggs' dusty corpse with a shovel but whatever I'm fine I'm over it nbd *screeches loud loud enough to shatter glass*
whatever man, you're a fake creator. you're not playing spore, you're playing something else entirely
i made this anon in spore [2008]

Hey shout out to every custodial/sanitation worker taking out and cleaning up literal hot garbage so that the rest of us can go about our summer days like it doesn’t exist
Glad to see this resonated with someone, respect custodial staff or die<3
You know when Terry Pratchett said 'It doesn't stop being magic just because you know how it works'? Yeah, he meant this.

A computer science student named Priyanjali Gupta, studying in her third year at Vellore Institute of Technology, has developed an AI-based model that can translate sign language into English.
This is what we need AI for. Not generating pictures using millions of stolen pieces of art, or generating shitty false articles using the stolen work of hundreds of thousands of writers. AI can be good, and it can be used for good things. This is an incredible feat and I hope Priyanjali gets the recognition and support she deserves for this amazing project.
oh god i’d heard about the “i won’t commission artists who undercharge for their art” post and now it’s making its rounds on my dash.
please understand that this concept does not actually help anyone. the sensible thing to do if an artist is undercharging is to tip them for what you think their work it worth, and be sure to let them know that. even if this doesn’t cause them to actually change their base prices, at least YOU’RE paying for what it’s worth, and THEY’RE getting business instead of nothing.
by essentially boycotting artists who are already unsure of the value of their own work (and are thus underpricing) you’re not sending any positive message. no one is going to up their commission prices when nobody is buying them. the only thing the artist gets out of it is that people don’t want to buy their art for some reason, and people who’s products aren’t selling aren’t going to say “oh i guess it was because i wasn’t charging enough, i’ll pump up the prices!”
if you want to support a commission artist, please do it by actually SUPPORTING THEM WITH COMMISSIONS rather than by choosing to take your business elsewhere because their prices were too low.

I NEED IT FOR MY NOTIFICATION SOUND
one big thing i think people outside fandom (like, all fandoms, fandom in general, not any particular one) tend to misunderstand is they know it's a subculture of people who are weirdly deeply invested in fictional media, and they hear about drama caused by people in those subcultures being unhinged in not-fun ways, and they think the unhingedness comes from the fact of being overinvested in works of fiction.
which is a natural assumption, but in my experience that's not really the case? like in my experience the drama llamas in fandom are usually not the ones who are just genuinely very deeply into the fiction. i've known people who are basically thinking about star trek or x-men comics or supernatural pretty much 100% of their free time and ime that type of person is usually very nice and surprisingly functional in their regular life. when someone's a constant nexus of fandom drama it's usually not that they are obsessed with the actual work of fiction the fandom is about, it's at least one of the following:
what they're obsessed with is not the source material but their unhealthy parasocial relationships with one or more of the people who created it
what they're obsessed with is not the source material but some elaborate shared-universe subset of fanfic about it that's only barely related to the original at this point, and/or an esoteric reading-against-the-text reinterpretation of the source material (often if the canon is active and ongoing this leads to becoming actively hostile toward it for its inevitably increasing failure to conform to their preferred fanon)
what they're obsessed with is not the source material but the fandom itself and gathering clout within it, so that the source material basically only exists to them as a tool for scoring points in increasingly arcane fandom disputes
and very often you get the same person doing 2 and sometimes even all 3 of these, and that's where the trouble really starts

This is what I tried to explain to US platforms like Patreon when they suspended my account for having a nude statue as the background image: I live in Europe, I can go and see a nude statue within a 5 minutes walk. Children can see them, they're not in some 18+ container. I will never understand those policies.
I recently learned that, a few years ago, the Vienna Tourism Board had such a problem with this that they opened an OnlyFans for their museums.
That's it. That's the dream. I'm almost mad that that's the dream.
That's half the dream. The other half is being fairie fucking godmother to everyone on the planet.
See, I had 100k for a hot minute. Doesn't matter why. But for nearly a calendar year, I picked up the tab every chance I got, i lavished people with gifts, I took a friend to Greece, I paid for healthcare for myself and a few other people, for lawyers to help someone get out of an abusive marriage, Christmas presents for a single mom of 3.
It felt incredible. Just to take away the worry and say, "I've got you." Instacart groceries to a grieving friend of a friend across town. Pay the unexpected car repairs. Gift a young artist a yearlong subscription to Procreate.
That's why I'll never understand billionaires. If you could fix it, if money could actually make even one life better, why would you not do it? Even just for the kick? Hell, i don't care if it feeds your ego. Be Tony Stark, be Superman, idgaf. When you'll never be able to spend all that you have, even if you some up every damn day like it was your job, if you could end world hunger six times over for the price of a social media company, why wouldn't you just DO IT?
I don't have a coherent conclusion to this, except that if I ever meet Jeff Bezos, I'll beat him to death with my bare fists.
