2) Her work is all really awesome! And she’s got a ton of short stories available for free online. Some of my favorites:
“Bluebeard’s Wife” -- what would happen if a woman Bluebeard married just didn’t look in the room?
“The Dryad’s Shoe” -- an aroace Cinderella who has zero interest in the ball or the prince but does love gardening
“Jackalope Wives” -- takes the skinshifting conceit of selkies and applies it to jackalopes (folkloric horned rabbits) in the American Southwest. Also stars the absolutely iconic Grandma Harken, whose left to clean up the mess when her grandson tries to catch himself a jackalope wife. This one won a bunch of awards and there’s an audio version read by LeVar Burton.
“Sun Moon Dust” -- a young farmer inherits a sword bound to the souls of three warriors, all ready to teach him to be a hero... but he has no desire to be anything but a farmer. A very sweet M/M story!

Hello. It's glorified notepad time while I do writing exercises! Here are some messages I've personally picked up on since taking up Iron Lung as an analysis subject:
It's not productive to step on one another to survive.
Don't let the system convince you to trade your humanity for anything.
Mob justice is wrong.
Inspiration can come from anywhere.
Persistence is the strongest tool in your pocket.
Stubbornness is just as useful as flexibility. Know when to use both.
You are still a person even if you are angry deep down.
Guilt alone does not absolve you. Your future choice of action will.
Kindness is free.
Don't drink isopropyl alcohol.
Notice the little things.
Don't turn a blind eye to make yourself more comfortable with another's abuse.
The blood ocean's monsters are biologically human. Simon is one of them.
It's not a moral failing to feel bad for the monster.
Refusing forgiveness does not grant you permission to stoop to their level.
Humans need to stop obsessing over trying to control death.
It's not our job nor responsibility as a species to understand life and death. Our job is to exist within the time we have.
Never give up hope that things will get better one day.
Don't let anyone tell you who you should be.
There's always a choice, and it does matter.
Your past mistakes do not define who you are.
Self-recognition of your flaws is the only way forward.
Don't abandon your friends.
Pursue the truth.
"Us vs them" mentality is inherently harmful.
Good and evil are abstract concepts that should not always be applied or used as a moral basis.
Note these are just my opinionated ideas and there is so much more nuance to take from the film! If I truly wanted to dig into everything, this list would get massive.

gracerocky but crank the soulmatisms up. why stop at the petrova line being their string of fate? think of the stars dying so they can meet. think of adrian's atmosphere setting the ship on fire just so they can touch. think of the taumoeba leaking just so they can reunite.
think of how the very paths of their lives were made to converge from the very start. it can't be coincidence. a scientist and an engineer, two occupations perfectly poised to cover for each other's weaknesses in their mission to save the stars.
think of how humans have a deeper understanding of theoretical physics while eridians have are more advanced in material science. think of how even their species reflect how grace and rocky are mirrors of each other, two broken halves slotting together perfectly.
think of how xenonite functions perfectly fine in earth's atmosphere, despite the sheer difference from erid's atmosphere. a miracle material that allows both grace and rocky to coexist and eventually touch, like it was created for this specific purpose.
think of how grace's background as a teacher was necessary for him to be able to communicate with rocky. because he's used to explaining concepts in simpler ways to people who have never heard of them before, and he's learned to be very patient with it too.
think of how rocky's isolation drove him to desperate measures, so much so that he would do anything to make this partnership with grace work. because he's always trying to bridge the gap between them, even mimicking grace's mannerisms just to make things easier for him.
think of how neither of them could've done this mission alone. think of how there have been billions of years since the creation of the universe and there are trillions of miles of space between them and yet they still ended up at the right time and place to meet each other.
think of how grace could sit down, and rocky is the right height to be at his eye level. think of how rocky fits perfectly in the space between grace's arms.
think of how they were made to be with each other, in every way, shape, and form. a pair of lovers, ordained by fate and brought together by the cosmos.
