“so this week my town made the news for—” nope
“there’s a restaurant two miles from my house called—” nope
“today I learned [celeb] went to my high school—” nope nope nope nope nope
these are all real posts I’ve seen on the internet that allowed me to identify a user’s hometown instantly. if it’s a small town, that’s doubly dangerous, because a bad actor could trace you just by a unique first name or selfie you once posted. in an age where doxxing and stalking are some of the worst I’ve ever seen it, you HAVE to think twice about what you’re posting online.
i once saw a 13-year old post an image they noted as being “a few miles from their house.” it had a theater in the shot with a unique enough name to be local. one google maps search, now everyone knew not only what city they lived in, but the possible neighborhoods in that radius too. and they had a HUGE following…who all knew this was a 13-year-old child.
so yeah. not to sound like a 90s internet safety PSA…but I’m gonna be that PSA for a minute.
if you’re posting an image, there is NO need to say that you live there. you could just be traveling. “saw this in Montana” is better than “saw this by my house!”
before you post about a venue, especially a restaurant or small store, check and see if it’s local—CRUCIALLY if it has only one or two locations. people might travel to arenas or convention centers, but they’re far less likely to be traveling to Bartleby’s Fish and Chips. if it’s an anecdote and you still live nearby, you can honestly just leave the name out entirely.
if you’re sharing a news story, it can just be a story you found and wanted to share. you don’t have to clarify “it happened in my town,” because even if you don’t mention your town name, an easily-googled news article will.
if you’re seeing a concert or meeting a celebrity on a tour that’s stopped locally, wait until they’ve hit a few more venues before you post about it, or at the very least wait until you get home. this is honestly a smart move for any event you attend: unless you’re marketing yourself, there’s no need to advertise your location in real time.
check your selfie backgrounds for anything identifying. this includes city names on venues, school names, street signs, and house numbers.
this stuff is flexible if you no longer live in your hometown, or if your city is particularly big, but there’s STILL no reason to tie yourself to your school, your workplace, or your street. you can call it paranoid, but as someone who’s seen my friends get literal death threats over fictional characters before, the last thing I want is someone willing to act on those threats finding out where they live.
anyway. PSA over. does a kickflip or whatever
He sure does love his fruits
We just not going to talk about how he can also do pottery? With chocolate?
And stickers!
he HAS A not chocolate version of that god damned bowl right there! TAUNTING US, and holding the not pastries kiwis!
proud victim of the tumblr accent. it's fading out of public consciousness as the tik tok accent takes precedence; a linguistic evolution that makes the tumblr accent 85% funnier to unsuspecting civilians. it's like releasing a disease on a non-inoculated population. coughing baby versus hydrogen bomb.
My blog isn't a safe space btw. It failed the last TÜV inspection due to lack of handrails and Notausgangschilder

what the duck is a blorbo
What does a stock photo of some random guy brooding have to do with my question
i'm so sorry to tell you that's not some random guy brooding, that's jensen ackles, the guy who played dean winchester in supernatural. i think this may be a screenshot from the show.
My mom calls him pouty and the other one squeezy
thank you, I didn't do it intentionally
on the one hand im honored that my tags got noticed but on the other hand now everyone can see the fact that i got misha collins and jensen ackles mixed up
in my defense they look exactly the same
In your defense when you said this was Misha Collins I immediately believed you that this was his name instead of Jensen Shackles
This post gives off vintage Tumblr vibes
No the real vintage tumblr would already add at least one supernatural gif to the post
this happened an Hour ago
I’m sorry, I need to bring us back around to pouty and squeezy because that’s perfect and I love it
*tries to fit this gif in here somewhere*
THAT'S SQUEEZY!
he sure pouts a lot its the perfect name
I couldn't find the right image to explain why my mom called the other one squeezy (because he often kept his lips "tightly squeezed", according to her) so here's this image instead
this post is from... *check notes* yesterday?
Ok, but what is a blorbo?
I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY MY MOM THAT I (ACCIDENTALLY) LIED TO YOU ALL
TURNS OUT, SOME 18 OR SO YEARS AGO MY MOM AND AUNT DECIDED TO GIVE SUPERNATURAL A GO AND STARTED WATCHING THE FIRST SEASON TOGETHER AND IT WAS MY AUNT, NOT MY MOM, WHO GAVE POUTY AND SQUEEZY THEIR NICKNAMES
I must add that my aunt is the kind of person who cares not about pop culture
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHAT DID IT SEEE ???
One of those fandom things that I love is when there’s new characters around and, with the unwavering confidence of an old farmer appraising cattle, fanfic authors take one good look at them, tilt their imaginary hat, and go “Aye. Praise kink, that one. Mighty case of praise kink if I ever saw one.” And everyone else just “aye.”
Not to mention the plot tropes.
“I don’t think the Highschool AU is going to come in too strong this year. Fandoms a touch jaded for that. But the hurt/comfort is growin’ thick as weeds and twice as fast. It’ll be a good harvest, fer sure.”
@cynaram
“I hear over at [neighbouring fandom] they’re putting the top field into fix-it fics.”
“Yes, ‘twould be. They had a hard season last year, a right hard season.”
“You think I ought to plant a little Sailor Moon Wild West AU? Don’t know if anything would come of it. Might not make it to harvest.”
“Won’t know until you plant it, will you?”
“Ah, a heritage crop.”
The shipping forecast.
The Fandom Almanac
“I think I’m going to sow some rarepairs this season. Don’t know what the market for ‘em will be, but I can eat ‘em if nobody else wants to.”
Petition to start referring to fanworks as ‘produce’ and stop calling it ‘content’.
Produce = Fresh. Tasty. Nutritious. Contains some ppm of Love.
Content = Lifeless. Sterile. An obligation.
