My spouse and I were talking last night and the jeans problem came up so I want to talk about it with tumblr here.
The jeans problem was the favorite lecture one of my philosophy professors in college gave about the history of jeans and how it ties into capitalism/mainstream culture absorbing and monetizing any counterculture it encounters. So prior to the 1950s jeans were mostly an item of work-wear that you wore on the job as a farmer or factory worker or miner because they were cheap, durable, and hard-wearing. If you were off the job you'd wear what we'd call now dress pants or slacks. This changes in the 1950s when youth culture start wearing jeans as regular clothing, again because they're cheap, durable, and hard-wearing. But then jeans get absorbed by the culture and we start getting designer jeans, acid-washed jeans, pre-ripped jeans, and now we got people shelling out hundreds of dollars for "povertycore" aesthetic. And now jeans aren't even cheap, durable, and hard-wearing.
This came up because my spouse was talking about thrifting and spooky things (two of her favorite things) and how there was this trend of buying a landscape painting from a thrift store which was probably going to end up in a garbage dump and painting a sheet ghost on it to make it art millennials would like. But now you can go to Michael's or Home Goods or wherever and just buy a landscape painting with a sheet ghost on it, mass-manufactured by a corporation. The counter-culture once again being monetized and absorbed by the culture. It's the jeans problem again.
always some new bullshit in the ocean

Why can't a salmon do some bullshit for once

What’s funny about being goth or punk is that kids generally aren’t scared of you. When I’m all dressed up with the big hair, dark makeup, and spiky clothes, little girls in particular treat me like I’m a disney princess

i was paying attention, i was listening, but you see the problem is....it didnt work
what if instead of paying companies to delete our info off of databases periodically we like. idk. passed a law that said companies couldnt do that anymore. and set up some kind of task force to disband all the companies that do that. thatd be cool
Not to oversimplify a complex issue, but i think we could reduce the number of deadly car crashes by increasing wages and having shorter work weeks.
I know my brain is radically different from others' & all but it constantly shocks me that people see the police as anything but dangerous killers. Seeing a police officer jars me; "shhhhhhIT it's a fucking evil mad kill-happy goon with a gun, right over there"
how do bormal people get through life without noticing the growing number of armed & insane morons with murder licenses prowling around their yards? genuinely envious because the shit has freaked me out since before I understood what they're supposedly meant to be doing.
#it's not just acab but acab for sure #it's that they are monsters #constantly there always hungering armed to the teeth and total impunity #even the suggestion that they shouldn't kill people - MAKES THEM KILL PEOPLE.
#anyone trying to defend any part of the institution instantly becomes part of them in my eyes - it's involuntary powerful and visceral
it’s never a normal temperature anymore it’s always some fucking bullshit

So with voting do you cum when a person get bitten into or when a person is swallowed or does it depend on the moment
usually you just mark a ballot with a pen or you select the candidate you want on a screen. sometimes you hole punch the ballot though
Every time I'm forced by circumstance to hand-sew something, I remember a fairytale I once read. There are lead-up shenanigans as the humble protagonist helps small animals and meets the princess and all that, but in the climax, the princess rigs a contest for her hand by setting her own task: sew her a dress in a single night.
The noble suitors, who have never sewn a thing in their lives, sabotage themselves by their own ambitions: they choose difficult fabrics to work with and cut huge, elaborate patterns and select gems and pearls and beads to sew onto it, and snip such long bits of thread that they lose time detangling their stitches, and ultimately resort to pinning bits together as they run out of time, so that their offerings initially look beautiful and flashy, but when the princess tries them on they stick her with pin ends and fall apart as she moves.
The humble protagonist uses a very simple pattern without embellishments and sews using short lengths of thread (snipped off and threaded for him by little birds of course) which don't tangle and therefore save time. His dress is plain by contrast, but holds together and the princess is able to move freely in it, and so he wins the contest and her hand.
I particularly think about the bit about threading the needle with shorter lengths of thread, needing to tie off more often but avoiding tangles and thereby saving time.
I then ignore that piece of wisdom passed down through who knows how many years and proceed to cut the longest damn length of thread I can manage because I hate tying off beginning or ending knots and I will not subject myself to more of that even if it does mean more tangles along the way.
Stole this from somewhere but i think it’s appropriate
Why do all minotaurs in media have nipple rings. Who's piercing their nipples. and How do I qualify for this job.
