I loved Swordheart by T. Kingfisher! The widow Halla & the enchanted sword Sarkis are so cute - I want to keep them forever. This book had me snorting with laughter at times. 🤣🤣🤣 I love that Halla & crew are not trying to save the world - just going on a journey to save her inheritance from her mean, awful family. After the third act break up, our crew has to save Sarkis but will they get to him in time? Will Halla & Sarkis get their HEA? Will Halla be able to defeat her awful family & that cousin with the clammy hands? Will those creepy slime monsters stop causing nightmares?

Naturally, I pictured Adam Driver as Sarkis but Halla - I don’t know. Maybe Emilia Clarke or Claire Foy? Who knows. But it was a delightful action/romance/fantasy all the same.

Wuthering Heights (2026). I hated the film (not that I’m a big fan of the book either but this adaptation just did not do it for me). The costumes are insane! Created by Oscar-winner (Little Women & Anna Karenina) Jacqueline Durran. I would almost watch this again on mute just to look at the costumes & beautiful cinematography.

Persuasion (1995). Still my favorite Austen adaptation!

Miss Austen (2025). I do love a good Jane Austen (or Austen-adjacent adaptation!). And Max Irons & Alfred Enoch are yummy. Keeley Hawes is always amazing. Loved the relationship between Cassie & Jane. Mary was a wet blanket. Ugh. I love how Cassie looked out for Isabella & made sure she found her happiness. I wish someone would help me find my happiness. 😔

I found the book this miniseries is based on so I’ll have to start that soon. I may also start a re-read of Jane Austen novels as well.

The Sign of the Cross (1932). Costumes credited to Mitchell Leisen. Claudette Colbert is so badass here - I love her! That infamous milk bath scene was probably shocking back in the day. Charles Laughton is bonkers as Nero. I tend to enjoy Fredric March but he does an awful lot of posing with his hands on his hips here. Whenever I see Elissa Landi, I’m reminded of her performance in After the Thin Man (1936) - she’s also great there.

Project Hail Mary (2026) was just so good. Great adaptation of an Andy Weir novel (way better than the awful The Martian (2015) which was so disappointing). Ryan Gosling was just fun & cute & amazing. His relationship with Rocky the Alien is so brilliant. Sandra Huller was great - especially her karaoke scene & her later scenes with Ryan.

Even better is Ryan’s costumes - that sweater is very Starsky & Hutch. The yellow rain slicker, the beanie, the retro NASA hoodies & uniforms. Loved them all!

Costumes are credited to David Crossman (The Batman, Rogue One, Napoleon) and Glyn Dillon (The Batman, Rogue One).

Re-watching Troy (2004) made me realize that I have a type of a man that makes me go weak at the knees - dark hair, dark eyes & I am a goner. Not always but maybe like 95% of the time.

Conan The Barbarian (1982). Costumes by John Bloomfield. He also did the costumes for two Doctor Who stories (Face of Evil and The Talons of Weng-Chiang).

The Lady From Shanghai (1947). Rita Hayworth looks like an absolute goddess in this film! Even with the blonde hair, she’s a vision. Jean Louis was the costume designer.

Josie and the Pussycats (2001). Costumes by Leesa Evans. The whole look was so fun & it definitely brought me back to those early 2000s TRL days. Too bad I didn’t like the movie much on its own.
