let's play doctor and patient I'll go first 🥰 you're faking.
Every time you go in a public place and something ISN’T disgusting it’s because somebody cleaned it. Every time you feel comfortable using a public bathroom or sitting at a restaurant table or setting something on a gas station counter or playing on a playground it’s because somebody cleaned it.
Thank you to everyone who cleans the world, especially those who are underpaid and under appreciated.
Something that annoys me is the constant whining about "more queer spaces, more queer communities" but then they're immediately like "yeah! And we need ones that don't cost money or require a purchase!"
Girl that's exactly why they close down after a year. You NEED money to keep these places open. There's no magic Gay Money Pot with endless cash to keep these places open. It requires YOU to put your money where your values are!!
Like there was a queer coffee shop in my city. Owned and operated by a bunch of LGBT people. Not a cishet on the schedule. Tons of young people raved about it.
And it made it about 2 years before shutting down completely. Because all those young people who begged for a place exactly like this would just show up, not buy a single thing, and leave. You cannot build a community without putting your money into it. This isn't about capitalism, this is just reality. You can't open a restaurant where no one buys your food. You can't have a gay bar that only serves 5% of the population and actively excludes everyone else. This is what I mean when I say people confuse "community" and "friend group." You're not obligated to spend money when hanging out with your friend group. But if you want a lasting community centered space, you need to open up that wallet.
The reality is that events, objects, and spaces cost money. I've been a professional queer organizer for over a decade. I ran a trans rights organization, and now I run a queer pagan church.
A lot of people wanting and expecting spaces and events and services without wanting to contribute any time or money or labor to support them has been a constant problem. Throughout my entire career, I've done most of the work myself, and I've paid for most of what I need to do that work out of my own pocket.
Which is not to say that nobody helps. But out of 50+ people who might show up to a free event with provided food, five or six showed up to a yard sale to fund said event, stayed for a couple hours, and then left my husband and I alone for the rest of the weekend.
With my church, which I've run for three years now, most people have shown up at least once when I asked for volunteers to help with something, and a couple people show up consistently, but exactly one person has ever made a financial donation. Everything else I pay for myself. Part of the problem is queer people tend to have less money and can't afford to contribute financially, but that doesn't change the fact that operating anything costs the same amount of money no matter how much money the people who use it have. And I've noticed that white cis gay men who fall into the "two incomes no children" demographic and actually have more money than average, still often don't actually use that money to support things that benefit the rest of the queer community.

I kept wanting to squeeze Farah into this, but realized at that point it would just be Adam erasure so we're sticking with the LI and the BFF lmao
if there was any justice at all in the world “every helen has her troy” would be an idiom (“every beautiful woman leaves a disaster in her wake”) and misogynistic renaissance authors would use it to describe hot women they didn’t like but, of course, inadvertently making her sound insanely awesome in the process. and then in modern times instead of talking about things being their hill to die on women could say “this is my troy to burn” and people on tumblr would be kind of horny about the whole thing and it would get incorporated into the whole “can yuo put that out on me” genre of posts. anyway just a glimpse into my beautiful mind tonight

To my 25 - 35 year olds, you've reached the age where people around you are starting to give up on themselves because they think it's too late. Don't let that energy rub off on you. It's not too late.
