I do think a lot of discussions of media could be improved by people’s willingness to say “yeah that’s a legit read but I don’t vibe with it personally for x/y/z reasons”. Like sometimes things can kind of be read one of two ways but one’s going to be much more appealing to you than the other and that’s fine! You don’t have to argue that your selection of evidence is objectively correct whereas other people’s is not, it’s actually perfectly okay if the deciding factor in your interpretation is taste. This is meant to be about enjoyment after all.
There is such relief in saying "Yeah but I don't like that read very much" or "Yeah but that's a very boring/upsetting way of looking at it" instead of making your whole fandom personality about arguing your view ought to claim unambiguous victory in the interpretation thunderdome. It's very cool and sexy to realize that you could look at the story in a way you hate and it would make sense, but it still wouldn't become the only way that makes sense. So you can just choose to Not Do That. Own your tastes!
I love when people are like “I can’t believe you reblogged that despite their user name, icon, bio, and last twenty posts” bc to me my dash is the only part of this website and I’m not slowing down to look at urls you could all be the same person

Summary: Alfre sat in her little tower, curled up with a book. They were good friends, her and her books; they had to be, once all the people left. This one was her favorite. She loved Alice and her adventures in another world, loved the silly Mad Hatter, loved the trickster Cheshire Cat, even loved the Queen of Hearts. The Queen of Love, she'd called her once. Her mother had laughed at that. Now her mother didn't laugh at much at all and locked herself away from her daughter.

There’s this ask reddit post about your weirdest childhood and the story is about this guy who was playing in the woods by a creek with his friend when a guy in full late 1800s formal clothing including a top hat just walked out of the forest, said “Hello boys!” and kept walking. This is why I want historical clothing so badly. The ultimate prank.
give someone something to think about for the rest of their life
be the ghost encounter YOU want to see in this world
This reminds me of my great uncle who used to hunt with a musket because he enjoyed the feel of it, and he also had an assortment of deer hide clothes he’d made or bought from local first nations, and he went out hunting when he was like 14 and got lost and came across this man in the woods and was like,,,,, can you help, i’m lost. and the guy looks him up and down and my uncle realizes he’d unintentionally dressed in all his deerskin clothes and a coonskin cap when the guy asks him, “how long have you been lost for?”

something about netflix castlevania felt really weird but oddly familiar in the way the story is medieval low fantasy and yet every character is not only speaking in a super modern way but constantly dunking on eachothers backstories, dropping f bombs with impunity, and going on 5 minute tangents on whether or not vampires really are killed by running water and I couldn’t put my finger on it until I realized they all talk like they’re players in a dnd campaign
in my humble opinion in my expertise as a certified PhDnD, trevor belmont punching dracula and nothing happening isn’t a natural one; trevor belmont punching dracula is when you roll high and add your modifier for a total that’s more than twenty against the boss’s AC, and in response the dm looks you dead in the eye and says “miss”
One of the things I love about Mandalorian culture is that it basically involves loving who ever you want, raising as many kids as you want, wearing cool body armor and flying around on highly unreliable jetpacks, and trying to shoot a space wizard who can send bullets back at you which is peak herbo/himbo culture. But seriously you don't get in trouble for picking a laser sword that's the wrong color, being forced to never see your parents as a toddler because you could move blocks with your mind, or never allowed to have family or life outside the Jedi order. One of the things that the EU established is both how family oriented Mando culture and one of the reasons they dislike the Jedi is partially because they force a child to separate from their family.
So for those of you who don’t know, there’s an official Mando’a language and dictionary, and one of the most important sayings in Mandalorian culture is:
Gar taldin ni jaonyc; gar sa buir, ori'wadaas'la.
Meaning- Nobody cares who your father was, only the father you'll be.
Oh my God?
We stan 1 (one) culture of batshit insane jetpack warriors
OH LAWD HE ZOOMIN
Ok I want to say something controversial
But you are responsible for your own safe spaces. You can block tags, block words, block people.
“But i thought fandom was supposed to be a safe space” —yeah you have to curate it.
Unfortunately one persons’s safe space may be another persons’ trigger. That’s ok. Simply block them, block the tag, block the word etc. They can do the same for you.
Maybe I’m just out of touch, but I’ve been around since the days of “don’t like, don’t read” and that’s a good philosophy. If it squicks you, scroll past. If it causes you anxiety or upset, block! Plenty of people are responsive if you ask them to tag an upsetting trigger. And if they’re dicks about it, block em.
Since different people have different needs, one person’s safe space will be another’s Trauma Central.
I don’t know who said it first, but “I need to be able to express my anger without shame” and “I need to be away from yelling and loud noises” are both valid needs people can have for a safe space that really aren’t compatible with each other.
So are “I need to process my trauma” and “I need to not meet any trauma.”
Or “I want a safe space to tell/read the stories that speak to me” and “those stories are distressing to me.”
Insisting that your needs are the only needs anyone should have is not a safe space, it’s its own act of violence.
You don’t get to make others homeless to make the universe your personal safe space.
“Insisting that your needs are the only needs anyone should have is not a safe space, it’s its own act of violence.”
Let's make a dinosaur!
I will draw one with proportions as close to the results as I can.
Tail
Torso
Neck
Head
Arms?
Legs
Claws
Teeth
Spikes?
Fancy head crest?
#we got 3% head and 27% crest
I'm starting to think I may have messed up by including the word "fancy", and thus making the crest option more appealing. Oh well. Polls can't be edited once they're posted, so it will be shaped however it will be shaped.
Why are there so many people in the notes going "I hope someone draws this"? OF COURSE I'm going to draw it, that's the whole point! Look at this blog! You really think I won't draw a dinosaur? I will draw the wretched beast after the poll closes next week and I have the final results.
"where are the horns?" "no thagomizer?" There's a limit of 10 options when you make a poll here, so both of those would fit under the spikes category.
"what about boobs?" Boobs are mammal nonsense, we're making a reptile.
"where's vanilla extract?" listen. I will make a pinhole camera out of your skull.
"I voted torso" Thank you, thank you, good!!! More torso please!
The hottest thing you can write is horrible people doing horrible things to each other out of love

#Humans will pack-bond with goddamn anything up to and including weather formations
Humans: Isn’t it charming and quaint how our ancestors gave spirits and personalities and godhoods to everything around them. Their primitive, unenlightened eyes must have seen things so differently to us, wise in their own way.
Also humans: That cloud group is named Hector and he likes to hang out at the beach for half of the year.
Some people on this website wholeheartedly believe a cat will only try to bite its’ owner if it’s under traumatizing levels of stress.
I assure you cats will bite for a variety of reasons up to and including “fun and me time”
