So its 2018… matter of fact almost half this year is gone. I realize now that the desire comes in waves for me. 2014/2015 were solid but everything after that just felt forced and what’s the point in doing anything in that state. But alas, I’ve been punched by the blog monster yet again.
Why the hell are you here then.
It’s a wonder I haven’t just archived this entire blog by now but something keeps pulling me back in. I can’t say it has anything to do with my following because honestly if a handful of people read this I’d be surprised.
Surprisingly enough this time I might have something that helps it stick, at least until the end of the year. I want to document my attempt at training and running my first ultra. Yea you read that right! A ULTRA marathon – Patapsco 50K to be exact.
Losing my mind.
Well we know it to be fact that I’m never in the healthiest of minds BUT this time it was more about needing a new challenge. I ran my first trail half a few months ago and it was the hardest race I’d ever run. Mental stamina is absolutely key. I learned a few things about myself that day: going slow didn’t shame me (it’s not a road race), I am capable of positive self talk, falling down gracefully and getting back up is a skill I have, and most importantly that I can succeed even when I’m scared.
So hows your running been going anyway.
Ah so glad you asked. This year has been great. So great in fact, it makes me sad I haven’t shared each moment individually. Not to worry, I’ve got you covered.
At the top of the year I focused on base training. At the end of January I started a training plan for the Parkway Classic that took place in April ( I crushed it). In March I ran the Four Courts 4 Miler (I crushed that too). All the while I was parading around trails with my friend JM to prepare for that trail half I mentioned earlier, Rosaryville Half Marathon. According to people who run trail races often, I did really good. Comparing it to my road half PR, it was much slower… but trails are different, SOOOO different.
See now you’re so caught up!! Also, if you follow me on Insta you would know all of this already.
What about everything else.
Life is pretty good right now. I’m keeping the mental health in check, as best I can anyway. Every day is different. Work is still work – at some point I ought to do a post on that with meaningful anecdotes. But for now, its fine.
My relationship seems to be thriving, my family life is less messy. My friendships are always a little all over the place but I am definitely trying to keep the ones that matter sticky. I’m also making new friendships, albeit via social. Speaking of social, Nuun let gave me the opportunity to come back as an Ambassador this year. I’m super grateful for that.
Oh shit almost forgot, I also started Invisalign back in March. Thats been going pretty well. I can already see huge changes.
