biblical angels but their true form looks like the patterns in 90s arcade carpets
That’s just microbiology innit?
Obsessed with this answer.
In 2010 I prayed to live in a time when Taio Cruz’s Dynamite was no longer playing on the radio, and now in 2022 I’d fall to my knees in tears if I had the chance to go back
In other online shopping related news I found someone on depop who makes custom hats for chickens and I don't think I will never find anything as good as them for sale again. Just look at these stylish sicíns!
The maker is Anna Gallagher btw :)
FINALLY MY ETSY SHOP IS OPEN!
Unfortunately shipping is within the UK only. Hopefully I can change it in the future.
It’s still work in progress but it can only get better from now on!
It's the little things
do you ever sabotage your own free time? like wtf is that about? i want to play this game or read or do something specific but instead i will just stare out the window or scroll mindlessly???
fun activities are still activities, they still require energy and focus. while this could be an executive dysfunction thing, it could also just be that you’re exhausted- sometimes you really have to do nothing for a bit!
energy, focus, shifting gears, the mental boost to get you over the hurdle of starting and into the flow of the new activity, maybe obtaining the thing and getting it out and set up and accessible …

no hold on youre definitely onto something
If you are like me with the anxiety and the depression and the executive dysfunction
- DON'T say to yourself "I need to take a shower"
-showering is a long multistage process that requires you to be vulnerable (naked, wet, blots out sound, what if someone calls/rings the doorbell, etc)
-INSTEAD say to yourself "I'm just gonna go turn on the water right quick"
-small one step task checked off your list
-your anxiety brain is a dumb motherfucker and it will be none the wiser that you have tricked it into BEGINNING the shower process
-once the water is running you are already there in the bathroom with the water running so you might as well finish the job
NOTE that this trick works for like. Fucking everything.
-Don't "work on your WIP"-- just open the document
-don't "make the scary phone call" -- just pull up the number in your contacts
-don't "make lunch" -- just pull out a loaf of bread
-don't "do the dishes" -- just open the dishwasher. Literally just open it
Remember ur anxiety brain is a dumb motherfucker and that you CAN therefore TRICK it into being functional
also bonus tip: for those times when u just need to lie on the floor and be a worthless lump of anxiety-ridden garbage for a few hours, download Duolingo and pick a language. Are you going to be fluent in a week? No. But it's easy to focus on and that way when you've been down there for half a day and your shitty fukken brain is trying to convince you you're garbage because it KEPT you there, you can counter with "excuse you I just spent the last four hours TEACHING MYSELF A FOREIGN LANGUAGE you punk ass bitch."
Good luck out there kids I believe in u
Both these tips are REALLY good advice! I have quite bad executive dysfunction and multi-step tasks become very difficult.
For the second one I actually put my Duolingo app in place of a social media app on my phone so I would open it automatically.
holy fucking shit you are a saint

[ID: A comment by Christopher Rocco Prestia that reads : I love this! I often talk about the importance of soundscapes and people look at me like I'm crazy. I don't buy a clock unless I like its tick and chime. I test whistling tea kettles and ringing kitchen timers whenever I can before purchasing. I went out of my way to find a microwave with a bell instead of a beep, and I'm incredibly fortunate that the dryer my house came with also has a bell signal. My first car had a physical bell instead of an electronic chime. I am a huge advocate for enclosing kitchens in walls with doors. Otherwise these 'open concept ' designs make the entire house sound like a kitchen (with the fridge humming, the echo of a tile/hard floor, and cooking/washing sounds when somebody is busy). Windy days are magical (albeit chilly) with 1 9th century single pane windows. And who doesn't love a good door creak on a stormy night? My 'dream house' will be as passive in its design as possible to avoid unnecessary mechanical noise (the ugliest noise there is, imo). One of my ideas is to have an extremely reverberant central atrium with vents near the ceiling that let in natural sounds like birdsong and rustling leaves. It would be arranged so that direct sound does not reach floor level and so the occupant only hears these sounds after several reflections. I think the effect would be magical! Anyhow, thank you for validating my antics. 😅 /end ID]
Ok so apparently what we needed to fight the crab overlords was a bunch of furry tubes. Good to know!
May I introduce you to the ancestor of seals, sea lions, and walruses?
Meet Puijila.
I see what you're thinking. "That's just a goddamn otter." Nope, the skull and teeth definitely indicate this critter is more related to seals than otters.
Because you know what a seal is if you ignore the blubber? Short tiny limbs on a long flexible body. A woozle.
So that makes for woozles in: mustelidae (true weasels), viverridae (civets), herpestidae (mongooses), eupleridae (Malagasy mongooses), nandiniidae (African palm civet), prionodontidae (asiatic linsangs), procyonidae (cacomistle), canidae (Bush dog), mephitidae (spotted skunk), ailuridae (red panda, a little debatable, but definitely stumpy limbs), and the pinnipeds (Puijila and arguably all true seals).
The only carnivoran clades without obvious woozle shapes are cats (domestic dwarfs don't count), bears, and hyenas. At least not extant ones.
---
Anyhow, here's a selection of not-weasel woozles, all from different families of carnivora.
Perhaps Pooh Bear was right to be frightened of woozle power.
