Hello, Luta! I hope you are well and that life is getting less hectic. I have noted that you are watching Heated Rivalry, and I have a question regarding the Dom/sub dynamic between Ilya and Shane, specifically in the bathroom scene in episode 2. Shane starts the scene angry at Ilya for ghosting him for six months, and Ilya mostly Doms him into calming down. I feel like I'm missing something here. From my perspective, Shane's frustration at Ilya is pretty justified (a simple text costs nothing), and Ilya dismisses that anger by bringing them into sexual territory. However, the scene is framed positively, and Shane does calm down, so I wonder if Ilya actually did something right, but I missed it. Just to be clear, I adore Ilya as a character. I just want to understand him better.

Now. The bathroom scene.

You’re not wrong to clock the ghosting as a problem. I think every one of us was clocking that as a red flag. Shane’s anger is absolutely justified. A text does cost nothing, and Ilya’s emotional communication skills are… let’s call them “still in beta testing.” But what’s happening in that moment isn’t Ilya dismissing Shane’s feelings, but it’s Ilya recognizing the specific way Shane processes emotion and using their established dynamic to bring him back into his body.

Some people calm down through talking. Shane calms down through structure.

What Ilya does there is a classic Dom move: he redirects Shane out of the spiraling, reactive headspace and into something grounding, familiar, and consensually charged. He doesn’t say, “Your anger is invalid.” He says, essentially, “You're overwhelmed, and I know how to help you regulate, so come here.”

And the key is that Shane responds. If Shane had pushed him away, frozen, or shown any sign of “no,” that would’ve been a hard stop. But instead he melts like someone just hit the “factory reset” button on his nervous system. That tells us this is a dynamic they’ve used before, and one Shane finds safe and stabilizing.

It’s not that sex magically fixes ghosting. It’s that their D/s dynamic gives Shane a way to feel his anger without drowning in it. Ilya isn’t solving the conflict, but he’s getting Shane into a place where they can actually talk about it later without one of them combusting.

So yes, Shane’s frustration is valid. And yes, Ilya’s method is a little sideways. But within the logic of their relationship, what he does is less “distraction tactic” and more “emotional grounding through a mutually understood power exchange.”

And honestly? Ilya is a menace, but he’s a menace who knows his boy’s off-switch.

Last time I gave you all a sad post, so today I’m bringing a fun update. We’re talking puppies.

Originally, I just had Harbor, a pit/Carolina dog mix who is pure mischief, pure sweetness, and pure chaos in a compact little body. Unfortunately, my other dogs did not appreciate her charm. I tried socializing, I tried bribery, and I tried diplomacy. They said no. Repeatedly.

So my husband, on one of his watch days, took her to the rescue… and came home with a friend for her.

Enter Boston: a pit/lab/mal mix who is a tiny demonic entity wrapped in the cutest packaging imaginable. I adore her the same way I adore my human demon spawn, with deep affection and a healthy awareness that she could destroy my entire life in under ten minutes if left unsupervised.

Both puppies go to work with me, and I’m in the middle of training them. Shockingly, I’m having an easier time with them than I ever did with the boys I raised. They’ve picked up the basics fast, and even some advanced stuff, but potty training is testing every ounce of my patience. I’ve always had dogs trained in a week. These two said, “Actually, no.”

They are teaching me about expectations. And humility.

They’ve brought me equal parts chaos, comfort, fear (parvo was horrible), and joy. And honestly? I wouldn’t trade any of it.

She didn’t pack enough underwear, but she did pack paper and pencils, so at least she was planning to journal her descent into feral forest life.

Turns out she wasn’t running away from us; never thought she was. She was trying to protect her best friend and the friend’s little sister from a monster. Backstory: I’ve known the stepmom for years and had already shared concerns about the girl showing signs of sexual abuse. The girl never talked, but she finally tried to run when she thought her sister was in danger.

Now the kids are with the dad and stepmom, and she’s asking me for help—resources, laws, what to do next. I mentor survivors, and I’m open about being one, but I don’t share details. Not even with my spouse. I still carry that old, awful feeling of being ‘dirty,’ even though I know it isn’t true. Helping others helps me hear the things I can’t say to myself.

But when someone who knows you asks for help, it hits different. I keep wondering if they’re looking at me and seeing damage instead of strength. Meanwhile, I’m walking around wounded, listening to details that would make anyone gag, and feeling guilty that I didn’t do more sooner.

So I’ve thrown myself into work and adopted two puppies, because apparently my coping mechanism is ‘chaos but with wagging tails.’

I’ll survive. That’s what I do. I survive because I’m a survivor.
