Millennial aang and the gaang?
((I love this question and my answer always changes each time I think about it.
Katara and Aang are a young, newly wed couple trying to get by on the very few dollars they have. They so poor Sokka lives with them, which is fine. It’s fine. It’s great. Absolutely fine to have your brother live you and your husband. Most people want some alone time, but this is fine. It’s fine. No really, Aang, go play more video games with Sokka. It’s fine. I’m fine. This is FINE.
Katara is a medical student that works at the hospital when not in school. She’s also popular on social media where’s she’s something of a social justice activist, constantly calling out for Social Health Care, and pointing out how pollution, wealth/social class and bigotry affect the health of the people.
She also gives helpful tips on how to stay healthy mentally and physically and is well known for her watersports posts (She spends most free time surfing or playing on her all-girls water-polo team).
Aang is a bit of a jack of all trades, but mostly boils down to “Professional Volunteer.” He works at the Community Center, which constantly puts him in the heart of most community projects, like food drives, city council meetings, school fundraisers, community parties, and the animal shelter. He has a degree in Sociology and is studying Social Activism, though he’s not sure what he’s going to do with either of them.
He’s a hard-co Vegan and will go on rants about the oppression of animals and the harm the meat-industry has on the environment if you let him. He doesn’t drink but dammit he loves Kombucha. He’s one of those guys literally COVERED in tattoos.
He and Katara have a giant dog Appa, a cat Momo, and are constantly fostering new pets that Aang always gets too attached to.
Sokka works as a city manager. Well, he works with the City Manager. He’s, like, the right-hand man! The personal Assistant. Okay, he’s the intern–and has been for the past two years. He’s got some really great ideas to modernize this city, create jobs! If his bosses would just listen!
He spends his free time developing his own video games, listening to Podcasts (Which he thinks makes him an expert on most subjects), and getting his butt whooped by his girlfriend Suki at her Cross Fit class.
Toph is Aang’s former Roommate (He attempted to train Appa as a Seeing Eye Dog. It didn’t go so well.). She’s studying Criminal Justice, but mostly just really enjoying her time finally away from her overbearing parents–which means she’s acting out and “rebelling” in ways she probably should have gotten out of her system in her teenage years. She likes bars, sports games, hanging out with friends until ungodly hours, and going to Suki’s CrossFit Class to show up Sokka.
Zuko got it rough. He comes from a life of privilege–all the best schools, never having to get a summer job, his whole college paid for, only to be cut off by Dad the day of graduation. It’s been a lot harder than expected to find a place where he belongs, and he’s getting pretty tired of living at his Uncle’s house, feeling like a child. But his uncle is good to him and the money he earns working part-time at his Uncle’s Cafe gives him SOME savings of his own. Unsure where or what to do, he’s finally given into his Uncle’s nagging to “Get out there,” so he went to just ONE city BBQ, which is how he found himself covered in Dog Hair, walking besides a Big Bald Guy with tattoos, listening to another dude talk about some video game he’s developing, on their way to a Crossfit class.
