Writers say "i'm not writing right now" like that means anything. You are always writing. You are writing at dinner. You are writing while someone talks to you about their holiday. You are writing in the queue at the post office.
Not writing it down is not the same as not writing. The writing happens first. The document is just where it lands eventually if you're lucky.
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
The funniest lie writers tell themselves is "i'll just write one sentence to get started." One sentence. Just one. To warm up. And then three hours have passed and you're 2,000 words deep into a scene you did not plan and someone has a dead mother now and the whole timeline shifted and you missed dinner and the one sentence is still technically in there somewhere, buried on page four, doing nothing, completely unrecognisable. You did not write one sentence. You never write one sentence. Stop saying one sentence.
Not sure why it's a new trend among fic readers to assume if the fic has not been posted within the week it's inappropriate to comment on it, like the fic has to be hot out of the oven to give feedback for.
I got a comment on a fic that is less than a year old and it was mostly an apology for being a comment on an "old fic" and how late they were in commenting.
Just comment on the fic. Doesn't matter how old it is.
Fandom is not social media.
Fandom is not trends.
Fandom is a cross between a library and having a slumber party with your friends.
"Old" means nothing to fic.

when someone shows up on my dash and im like 95% sure I used to follow them but I dont anymore and now I have to figure out if that happened because they did something heinous or because they were mildly annoying when i was pmsing or because our interests simply drifted apart and I couldn't take the 1000 formula 1 rpf posts in a row anymore or entirely by accident
the concept of "canon" is fake anyway. if you write a fanfic with better emotional arcs than the original you win. i said what i said
