Vinta Inks Salimbay Review + Art
Hello again! In the last post, I reviewed Writer’s Blood. In this one, I will be reviewing Vinta Inks Salimbay 1949. Also known as Plume. Vinta Inks is an ink company from the Philippines and this ink here is from their Fairytale Collection.
Same as before, I am using hot press watercolor paper, a water brush pen, and a Pilot fine tipped dip pen.
This ink is a lighter purple that shows off blue and pink hues when introduced to water. It is on the dryer side, but there was little trouble with the nib flow. However, be careful when using it in a pen because it does have shimmer in it. The ink has a pink shimmer that is on the more subtle side, but it is more noticeable in person. There is no sheening. There is, however, a little bit of shading when used it writing. It is barely noticeable, though. I very much like how this ink becomes a lighter tone when brushed over with water since I find it good for shading. Art wise not writing wise. And the pink and blue hues revealed look lovely. This is a good ink if you want a slightly darker lilac and don’t want to worry about visibility.
Short Review:
Wet: Dry
Sheen: None
Shimmer: Light Pink
Shading: Some
Color: Light Purple
Tone: More mid than cool
Watered Down: A lighter purple with some pale blues and pinks
I very much like this ink for art. It is a comfortable color and the hues shown when mixed with water are lovely. But like many shimmer inks, it would be best to use it with broader pens rather than fine or extra fine so that the pens do not clog. I would give this one a 7/10
If y’all are wondering why this is music in this video, that is because I also post videos on YouTube. And my videos with music tend to do better than the ones without.
Oh, and here is a quick bottle review since I will sometimes eye an ink with a nice or unique bottle since I like feeling like an alchemist sometimes…
Anyways, the bottle that I have is 30 ml(or 1.0 oz). It is a glass bottle, which I prefer over plastic, and has a plastic cap. While I would normally like a metal one, I have heard this bottle be compared to old fashion medicine bottles before and I find that the plastic cap helps with that outlook. So I think that the cap makes it more interesting. The label is plastic except for the bottom which is paper. And here is a nice detail that Vinta Inks put. On the corner, there is a little swatch of the ink. And it even includes the shimmer.
All in all, I give the bottle an 8/10. Good for aesthetics while still being practical.
Creating the base outfit designs and making a height chart for one of the comics I’m creating.
It’s a four parts series and these are the main characters per part. It’s based on the otome isekai genre and will discussing and breaking down tropes from it, but there will also be an interconnected storyline. I want this story to show off not only the virtues of the genre, but also the issues. Oh, and each couple here is a m/f pairing. I have a tendency to make my male characters look androgynous even when I don’t mean to. Masculine men are hard to draw.
There are also multiple naming schemes going on here, but I don’t feel like typing it out. And no. Eros/Psyche’s naming scheme is not gods from Greek mythology. Though the actual naming scheme and Greek mythology typically do go hand in hand. As a hint, Eros’ full name is Eros van Maanen and Psyche should be paired with a certain number.
Editing a video where I have no idea what I’m going to talk about.
I’m stuck between symbolism of freedom with art or talking about tone and how contrast is important in storytelling. The only thing that I know is that it’ll be centered around One Piece because I felt like drawing Gear 5 Luffy.
Diamine Writer’s Blood Review + Art
In the past few years, I have collected over 50 inks. And yet, I have barely used them besides making swatches. So, decided to review them while making a piece of art from each one.
For this piece, I used a fine tipped dip pen and hot press water color paper.
The ink is a cool toned dark red that turns into a nice pink when watered down. It flows nicely from the dip pen and breaks down easily when introduced to water. There is next to no sheen and zero shimmer and shading. This is a good ink if you want a wet red, but don’t like bright and saturated colors like Red Dragon or don’t like Oxblood due to its yellowish tones.
Short Review
Wet: Extremely
Sheen: Next to none
Shimmer: None
Shading: None
Color: Dark Red
Tone: Cool
Watered Down: Cool pink
This ink is popular for a reason. It is simple, but effective. However, it takes some time to dry, so it is very easy to smear. I would give it an 8/10
That moment when you realize that you put too much writer’s blood on Perfect Cell.
I accidentally smeared the ink and had to add more to hide it.
Cooler art because I was in a Dragon Ball mood. Someone is getting obliterated.
Also someone here said that Cooler’s bio armor looks like a sports bra and I can’t unsee it.
Monster Designs Inspired by Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades.
If you look at the Poseidon one from above, then he sorta looks like a trident. I’ll also admit that I had no idea what to do with the Hades one’s face.
I actually drew a lot of things in this artwork that you can’t see unless you watch the timelapse. The art process is really weird.
A Merman OC that I’ve had for a bit. I thought that it would be appropriate to post it during MerMay. And it also shows the difference that just a few months can really change your art style.
Original sketch.
First digital render.
Latest digital render.
It’s all the same sketch and just the coloring is different, but it really does change how the art looks.
The backstory behind this character is that he is a royal from an oceanic race known as an Atlantian. They have minor shapeshifter capabilities and like to constantly change their colorings. Think cuttlefish. This one in particular is a huge flirt and will constantly tease his human companion/love interest. No one knows what his necklace holds and he refuses to tell anyone. His name is Phathom which is a mix of phantom and fathom. Not my most creative name but I thought that it suited him.
And this here is the oldest full body sketch I’ve done of him. And this one was only a few weeks before the other one. Just really goes to show how much your art can change with even a little bit of time.
Decided to make some fanart art based on the latest chapter.
I thought about having Gray’s hand reach out to her, but I thought that would be too cruel.
Acrylic marker practice + King the Wildfire and Pre-Timeskip Nami.
Dear goodness, white hair is really hard to color/render.
I got a new sketchbook, so I decided to draw Irene Belserion.
BTW, I totally forgot about the other earring until the line-art phase.
More practice and trying out different styles. Also a random Romance sketch because why not.
Wished that there were more pale blue/turquoise hair and pinks eyed characters out there. It’s such a pretty combo.
Yet another character I find difficult to draw. I really do like drawing the patterns though.
Practice sketches with main trio + Motherglare because why not.
Went for a more painterly look here.
Just ignore the floating face.
Love the aesthetics of drawn hands. Hate actually drawing them.
I also kept forgetting to add the tattoo.
