But thank you @owlpartytime those stories kept me company till dawn đ€
My dear lgbt+ kids,Â
This may be a controversial opinion but: I really donât like the message âStay madâ and I donât believe that itâs helpful.Â
What do I mean by âStay madâ? I mean the following situation that I have seen a lot online lately:Â
Someone in our community dares to make a happy post. Theyâre excited that Trump is no longer president. Theyâre happy that a teacher said they support trans students. Some celebrity waved a rainbow flag and that meant a lot to them. Whatever it is, thereâs a lgbt+ person who is really happy about it - and the people in the comments get angry about that.Â
âStay mad!â, they say. âThis means nothing. Homophobia and transphobia still exist. Donât celebrate the bare minimum, donât set the bar that low.âÂ
Itâs true - this one positive thing doesnât erase all the negative things. The fight for lgbt+ rights is far from over. I agree with that.Â
But I donât like the implication that a person can and should be angry all the time. âStay madâ sends a super unhealthy message to young and eager lgbt+ activits - âhey, you are not allowed to take a break and celebrate the progress you are fighting for! You have to fight and fight and fight without allowing yourself to ever feel like your fight is paying offâ.Â
Thatâs not the way to create awareness - thatâs just a sure-fire way to create burn-out.Â
This is especially important as so many young people in our community are already at a higher risk of depression. âStay madâ tells us that the default emotion of a lgbt+ person should be anger or even hopelessness. Thatâs so dangerous and so untrue.Â
Please do not stay mad all the time. You can celebrate, you can feel excited, joyful or relieved about positive things - while fighting against the negative ones. Thereâs space for both, anger and celebration. We need both.Â
With all my love,Â
Your Tumblr Dad

Can you be held in contempt of court if your hearing is over zoom? Like how would they enforce that
I am going to drink an inappropriate amount of milk during my zoom court hearing in about an hour
There is now an official court record of me being asked to stop drinking milk

Seeing a lot of comments again on people being annoyed when yr fic writers donât research the country. Like the âyou can tell when itâs written by an Americanâ kind of comments and itâs just likeâŠ.. stopppppppppp. If you want fic writers to continue writing, stop saying shit like thissssssssss.
Some of us are full time students who write fic in their free time. And Iâd much rather be researching for the essay Iâve got due rather than trying to please the people reading what I write FOR FREE. Like seriously, and if I was going to deep dive into that kind of research, Iâm not gonna do it for a fic I work on whenever Iâm feeling bored or want practice writing. Iâm gonna save that kind of energy on the actual book Iâm writing.
Look, I understand that in some instances involving minorities or groups who are discriminated against, that stuff deserves proper research and should be handled with care and accuracy. But when the critique is about the Swedish press seeming âtoo Americanâ or stuff like âthe royal family doesnât actually work like thatâ, take a minute to question if the comment is worth it before you hit send, mkay?
Also, Iâm not even American! Okay Iâm done now, sorry for the rant, clearly someone struck a nerve.
eli sketch of the day !!
i love talking to people in real life and being like âoh yeah i have instagram but i donât really use it⊠i donât have facebook or tiktok or anything like that either⊠idk i just donât want to waste my life on social media, i prefer to live in the momentâ and then i go home and spend 12 hours a day on tumblr
the new family drama iâm obsessed with has been the saga of my eight year old cousin trying to understand how our uncle is related to our grandpa and not our grandma. the answer is our grandpa cheated on her with a nurse and had our uncle, but NO ONE wants to explain cheating and adultery to an eight year old so theyâve just been telling him to ask someone else. so far itâs gone my mom -> me -> his mom -> his dad and he still is no closer to an answer. we are very quickly running low on knowledgeable adults and i cannot wait to see where he goes if that trail goes dry
my roommate weighs in on the issue
my mom brought up a good point, which is the fact that this kid is heavily religious. was named after a biblical figure and watches bible retellings for fun religious. in his mind he cannot physically comprehend how you can have a child with someone you are not married to, which is a very interesting addition to this case.
i should also add that, when the concept was first brought up to him, he went, âso was grandpa the one pregnant???â and iâm so obsessed with the fact that his brain considered mpreg before literally any other possible explanation
have i not suffered enough already. was it not enough for youtube shorts to cover me. must this be my eternal fate
âLolita isnât a perverse young girl. Sheâs a poor child who has been debauched and whose senses never stir under the caresses of the foul Humbert Humbert, whom she asks once, âhow long did [he] think we were going to live in stuffy cabins, doing filthy things togetherâŠ?â But to reply to your question: no, its success doesnât annoy me, I am not like Conan Doyle, who out of snobbery or simple stupidity preferred to be known as the author of âThe Great Boer War,â which he thought superior to his Sherlock Holmes. It is equally interesting to dwell, as journalists say, on the problem of the inept degradation that the character of the nymphet Lolita, whom I invented in 1955, has undergone in the mind of the broad public. Not only has the perversity of this poor child been grotesquely exaggerated, but her physical appearance, her age, everything has been transformed by the illustrations in foreign publications. Girls of eighteen or more, sidewalk kittens, cheap models, or simple long-legged criminals, are baptized ânymphetsâ or âLolitasâ in news stories in magazines in Italy, France, Germany, etc; and the covers of translations, Turkish or Arab, reach the height of ineptitude when they feature a young woman with opulent contours and a blonde mane imagined by boobies who have never read my book. In reality Lolita is a little girl of twelve, whereas Humbert Humbert is a mature man, and itâs the abyss between his age and that of the little girl that produces the vacuum, the vertigo, the seduction of mortal danger. Secondly, itâs the imagination of the sad satyr that makes a magic creature of this little American schoolgirl, as banal and normal in her way as the poet manquĂ© Humbert is in his. Outside the maniacal gaze of Humbert there is no nymphet. Lolita the nymphet exists only through the obsession that destroys Humbert. Herein an essential aspect of a unique book that has been betrayed by a factitious popularity.â
â Vladimir Nabokov (tr. Brian Boyd), Apostrophes (1975)
VĂ©ra Nabokov, Vladimir Nabokovâs editor and wife (among so many other things), mentioned in interviews with her biographer that he threw the Lolita manuscript into a fire several times (she pulled it out). Vladimir Nabokov spoke openly about his fear that the industry and an idiot public would pervert his book into a saucy sex fantasy instead of a study on predatory patriarchal horror. I hate how right he was.
"old friends" is an underrated relationship dynamic because it's such an innocent boring sounding term for what is usually some of the wildest shit imaginable. it's always like 'oh yeah we go way back, we have history' and then you find out that history includes sex, drugs, murder, divorce, war crimes and The Incident

whatever it takes, man
If you expect fiction, especially so-called genre fiction, to educate you on politics, social issues and morality, you might just read too little nonfiction
Or you may know some high-quality genre fiction writers.
OP answering 'tell me you haven't read Pratchett without telling me you haven't read Pratchett' with their whole chest
I have, in fact, read Pratchett. And my point still stands, because itâs less about what individual fiction writers put into their fiction, and more about everyone and their grandmother approaching fiction with the expectation of being educated on these matters and complaining when a fantasy novel doesnât contain correct messages on every social and political issue because itâs too busy telling a story. Pratchett is good, but youâre still doing him a disservice as a writer of fiction if you rely solely on Discworld for your political education.
