I don’t really ever post on here (cause no one sees it anyway), but I wanted to show a glow up and talk about my art feelings lately.
First off, while this isn’t a direct redraw (We’ll get into that in a second), I used the same reference image for both drawings.
So the pic on the left is fanart of Keith from Voltron..as a...sexy dancer..in an assassin au??? It’s kinda cringe (read: very cringe). It’s from around 2017-2018. If you can see the little artist’s note next to it, you can see that I clearly wasn’t SUPER proud of it, but I remember at the time being so impressed with it. Like I drew a full body, which is still something I don’t do all the time.
So I challenged myself. I’ve been feeling very off with my art lately. (Less on full body portraits and more on character design and drawing faces). Nothing I draw turns out looking the way I want it, it takes forever and at the end of the day just doesn’t feel on par with where I should be at having drawn pretty regularly for the better part of a decade. I wasn’t worried so much that the redraw would look worse or just the same, but I was worried I just...wouldn’t like it. But I ended up loving it. So much so that I colored the sketch and added shading. (And if you’re wondering I did color it to intentionally look like Katara a bit).
It’s not the most polished, I didn’t even try on the hands, she barely has a face, and there are some obvious flaws in anatomy, but I like it. And looking at it side-by-side with the original has given me so much motivation to continue working.
