Something I think people learning to draw black characters or just generally any nonblack artist should really think about is like, do you engage with Black artists? Like outside of looking at their tutorials and tips, do you follow black artists? Do you look at, and study their style and the way they draw black characters? I think thats a really important aspect for nonblack artists, you can say x y z, but are you like actually engaging with black art especially outside of the public eye? This of course goes for any artform but i here was specifically talking about art in the sense of painting, drawing, animation, etc.

people are reblogging my post about accessibility reforms for pwhl streams and i want to be clear about how egregious the situation is because not only is there ZERO effort put into live caption at all there is also no effort made at all for even post live caption! and im not just talking about the streams of the games either. the only captions available for either of the podcasts is the auto generated ones from youtube which is simply not good or reliable enough. i will commend them for the fact that there seems to be captioning on the videos talking about the current draft class but tbh that is what i would expect them to be doing for a draft class that includes a deaf/hoh* player. like its just so disheartening for something that a simple as proper captioning of the podcasts and playbacks of streams isnt thought about :/

for anyone who isn't aware, wnba players have been speaking out recently about the abuse they've been receiving online from sports betters who bet on them and weren't happy with the outcomes of the games. notably, chelsea gray blasted a guy who called her a racial slur because she didn't score as many points as he bet she would, and courtney williams posted a voice note of her response to a guy who said some absolutely vile stuff to her

i know most of the wnba fans on here are more casual watchers, but it's still something i think everyone who pays attention to the league should be aware of because it's astounding how many comments i've seen saying that the players should just suck it up because that comes with the territory and all athletes have to deal with it. while it's true that this problem is by no means unique to the wnba, that doesn't mean it's okay or that players should have to tolerate harassment and bigotry (i swear every single one of these comments is overtly racist, misogynistic, and/or homophobic)

if the league is going to openly endorse sports betting, partner with betting platforms, and actively promote betting during every single commercial break, then it NEEDS to also take measures to protect its players from the vitriol that betting inspires. personally i think it's incredibly fucked up that sports leagues are endorsing betting at all, but that's a conversation for another day. natasha cloud said it well when she was interviewed about it: if the wnba wants to endorse betting for the sake of financial growth, fine, but that cannot come at the expense of the players, and cathy needs to step up and protect them (in this way and so many more). elizabeth williams (secretary of the players’ association) said that there’s a meeting scheduled to discuss the issue with cathy soon, but i honestly don’t know how much we can expect to come from it

to anyone in the areas impacted by the wildfire smoke, my #1 biggest piece of advice as someone whos been dealing with wildfire smoke in the NW united states for years, is build yourself a Corsi-Rosenthal Cube

they perform as well as expensive HEPA air cleaners, and are comparatively VERY inexpensive. all you need is a box fan, 4 air filters, a piece of cardboard, and some duct tape!!!!

i think it took us maybe a half hour to put ours together, if that, and we replace the filters every 3 months. it's really made a HUGE difference, both when the air quality is bad, but also with our allergies

Another design is using 2 20x25x1 filters, taping them to the sides of the box fan and then to each other so they sort of make a triangle, then cutting cardboard to make a top and bottom to the triangle.

This was discovered as a more effective design during the 2020 US west coast fires.
