Do you support self-dx? (With proper research and consideration of course)

I do, actually! Within moderation, at least.

The thing is, without going forward and telling a doctor/professional about the things you’ve been experiencing under the notion of “I think I have this”, a lot less people would get diagnosed.

For example, say you thought you had ADHD. After researching a ton about the symptoms and experiences of others who were diagnosed ADHD, everything just felt too familiar to not be what’s going on. So you go to a professional, tell them everything you’ve been thinking, and they end up diagnosing you!

Without partially self diagnosing, there’s a chance that you might’ve never went in the first place.

That’s a big problem for me when it comes to mental health, actually. It’s like an implied phrase of “Unless you’re diagnosed, you don’t have [insert problem here]”. Which of course is possible, but never 100% true, and is really harmful in terms of going to actually get help.

One thing though, I do believe you should say it’s self-diagnosed, if it is. Because it implies that while there’s a chance that you don’t have said thing, you still have/relate to enough of the symptoms to be considered on the spectrum.
