in some ways i think the tension between etho's anonymity and the other hermits has filled the hole left in me since dan and phil announced their relationship. no longer am i watching two british guys try and get as close to crossing the line without actually crossing it; instead i'm watching a group of friends all aged 30+ yearn and wax poetic about how much they'd want to meet this one guy and how much they DON'T want to meet him and how he'd never agree to meet them and how if they DID meet it'd probably be in private and not for an event. they'll say this all in a public digital forum over and over again and then they dance around the topic when talking to the man himself. a much more refined, complex dilemma involving a whole network of people and problems. what do u do when ur open secret isnt two people in a relationship but a whole bunch of people loudly professing that they wish they could have a closer friendship with one guy. crazy.

some microgames i've played and enjoyed recently. all of these took me under half an hour to play, and all of them can be played in browser.

last seen online is a digital escape room and it's sooooo fun. i think the story is actually really compelling, and delivered in an interesting way, and the puzzles were a ton of fun. very inventive in design and captures a good atmosphere.

Tama-Get-Out is a very short (like five minutes) puzzle game in which you are a tamagotchi trying to escape your egg. very clever and cute!

It is as if you were making love is a game where you jerk off your computer by moving along a slider. i like this one a lot for its extremely abstract eroticism.

TOC TOC is a puzzle game that is actually kind of super difficult. i did need hints for the last level... i think the atmosphere is cute and the ambiguity of its barebones story is very compelling. and the puzzles were a lot of fun.

15 Minutes is a walking simulator sort of game where the world is ending in 15 minutes, and you have to finish your bucket list before then. a lot of the story beats + dialogue are kind of cliche and rushed, but the graphics are so beautiful that i kinda don't even care. just a really really pretty game.

Crossing Lines is a driving simulator that really captures the feeling of long road trips. and also complicated sibling relationships. very fun dialogue, very very fun story beats that feel like you're just watching two real sisters instead of a story about them.

ICBM Program is the closest to VN, but you get to press some buttons too. you are a human brain that's been implanted into a nuke in order to function as a targeting system. it feels a little rushed to me but still very enjoyable.

that would be so cute… unfortunately no he does not, although he does usually reassure them that they’re not bad at something, or that even if they are it’s fine because they have other strengths, or that even if they don’t it’s fine because he likes them. his relationship with cleo really is unique in the sense that he’s very rarely outwardly mean to them, even when they’re mean to him first. one editing detail that I’d consider similarly cute however is the way scott will sometimes do microedits on cleo’s dialogue to make them sound more articulate (DL ep 3):

this sort of detailwork—removing filler words/sounds—is something he usually only does for his own dialogue (and one of the reasons why people sometimes say he edits like a storytime vlogger lol). but he considers cleo his soulmate, so he gives cleo the same treatment he gives himself.

im really new to ethubs and was trying to find ancient ethubs on ao3 and it turns out the oldest one is only 2020 so almost 3rd life times? which isn't that long ago so i sorted by oldest etho fics and the majority was etho/nebris, i have no idea who nebris is but that was appearantly all the rage back in 2013, anyway i heard through the grapevine that you were ethubs central and thought maybe you know of ancient ethubs, did it even exist? the best ethubs clips are from that time but was there anyone that truly saw the beauty at the time or were they all blinded by... nebritho? ethebris??

you probably want more of an oldhead to answer this since i only joined the fandom in 2024 but my understanding is that nebtho was the big thing back in the day (for a relative value of 'big') and it was only after the s8 ethubs renaissance where they realised theyre allowed to hang out without needing an excuse that the ship really took off

Hello anon! You might never see this but I just thought it’d be fun to answer because i was kind of around back then.

I’ll preface this by saying I was quite young, and thus not entirely in the fandom until sayy 2019 or so, but I’ve been watching since mindcrack season 2!

So, I can’t speak for ao3, but ethubs shippers existed out in the world (namely the youtube comments which is.. bold.) We were like bacteria feeding off the crumbs they were leaving for us. That being SAID Bdubs was notoriously flirty with loads of people, and sure it was a bit different around Etho, and people clocked that, but after a certain point there wasn’t really enough content to go off of, and it was easier to ship some combination of Team Canada or Nebtho.

SO! Nebris! One of my favorite topics. Nebris was (is) basically a try-hard. He was good at EVERYTHING and he was there to win. They called him Cheaty Nebs because. He cheated lmfao. But no one even cared because it was just Nebris. He and Etho were like, each other’s built in punching bags T-T Unlike Bdubs, who was painstakingly careful around Etho, and would only visit with about five levels of permission, Nebris would just come over and fight Etho, or vice versa. This is back in the day when Etho was just about one of the best around at PVP, and sometimes their battles would go on for the upside of 3 to 5 minutes (which is honestly insane if you think about it), they were *that* evenly matched. Also, they were frankly disgusting to each other. In every series they were in it was some type of… Heated rivalry, you could call it 🤔. I mean I jest but genuinely they gave off those vibes. They had some crazy thing going in every UHC they were ever in together, they casually interacted all the time on mindcrack (which was kind of rare for that era) and people weren’t blind, so they shipped it like crazy. It was a great time to be alive… if you ever want a history lesson, read some nebtho because it’s ALL FANTASTIC.

Anyways, about your question, short answer yeah, they were Ethubs shippers, and I’m actually pretty surprised that there are no fics predating 2020, but that being said there wasn’t a lot to go off of outside of OOGE, and whatever planned shenanigans they’d get up to. That being said, when Bdubs would stream, Etho was a frequent visitor, and I can remember some “oh here comes Etho 😏” types of jokes. So like the answer is kind of… yeah but people just shipped them to their face?? LOL. Like the wonderful Draculism mentioned, after Ethubs (and honestly everyone) learned that they were allowed to interact on camera, everyone remembered “oh yeah, this has been a thing for YEARS.” Lol.

Also I was looking for any saved videos or screenies I have of them being weird, but I only found one (the rest are probably on an old device </3)

it's pretty simple: if etho is saying something nice to bdubs, it's psychological torture toward him, and if etho is saying something mean to him, it's flirting. however if etho says something nice on video when bdubs is not present in the scene it's actually nice, and doubly so if it's explicitly or implicitly to bdubs-the-video-watcher. if he's insulting bdubs when bdubs is not present it's an in-joke that everyone else is ignoring while he chuckles to himself bc nobody else pays enough attention to notice when it's funny. which if you think about it is kind of the purest ethubs bc it's kind of for nobody but etho himself.

conversely in general if bdubs is saying something nice to etho and he's loud it's bc he's being contrary/defending etho's honor, but if it's at a normal volume he's more likely just being gentle with etho. it sounds a little different but if he's being mean to etho in company it's similarly thoughtless/reactive to be dismissive, but if it's direct to etho, it's to provoke etho into being mean to him, which as we've previously established is etho's way of flirting. by multiplying these matrices at any given interaction you can basically deconstruct whatever weird dynamic is going on esp when everyone else who isn't bdubs or etho is not hitting the same tone, as is usually the case
