Do not comprehend what people get out of character.ai (and similar) chatbots. It only takes a few exchanges before the mask slips and you immediately see the matrix. How do you not get terribly turned off when even the most carefully constructed, well-fed bots respond wildly out-of-character at the drop of a hat? Don't you feel second-hand embarrassment every time it trots out some dumb fanfic verbiage? Isn't it frustrating when you try to write in a slightly obscure way, but anything short of the most Netflix-tier "this is for people watching while on their phone" dialog confuses it? What's the point of the exercise if, by design, the bot can only ever follow your lead? It can't take the initiative or surprise you with a turn of direction (which is why it starts those godawful "can I ask you a question"-type loops whenever it determines the scene is stagnating, instead of DOING something interesting or different).

This is all because there's nobody at the helm making decisions with a grasp of the source material. It's just a big, sloshing bucket of cliches being filtered through whatever parameters have been set.
