on twitter in 2022 i said “fandom likes to baby white villains and excuse their behavior, like with kylo ren and snape and izzy hands” and i got torn to absolute shreds even though i wasnt saying anything new and now people are coming out of a black-ass vampire movie doting on the white villain
just found two gif sets, made by the same person, that didn’t include any of the black characters
from the black vampire movie
there’s a systemic problem where people latch onto and empathize with white antagonists over non white major characters
“the villain is supposed to be sympathetic?? how is it racist if i like the villain??”
there is a systemic problem where people will accept or even excuse the actions of a white villain and demonize non white characters— especially female ones — for the exact same actions
”but you’re supposed to think their actions are wrong bc they’re the hero! it’s expected when the villain is bad, which is why it’s subversive to like them”
there is a SYSTEMIC problem across MULTIPLE FANDOMS where white antagonists are offered MORE grace, sympathy and attention over their non white counterparts, even if the non white characters are major characters or even the protagonist
“you’re just an anti and a prude who thinks it’s evil to like antagonists and now you’re bullying innocent fans for having a preference”
