so weightwatchers released an app for kids - a diet app for kids (!!!!) down to the age of eight (8) years old.

this is literally an app that is supposed to have children track their food intake, and their energy output, every damn day, with the purpose of them losing weight. it does before and after photos, and uses this system that is a “stoplight system”, so bad foods are red, medium is yellow and good is green.

when you sign up you have to put in your goal and one of the choices is “to make my parents proud”.

this is basically an app designed to shame children, and indoctrinate eating disorders into them.

what the hell is wrong with people????!!!!

A pattern I've noticed that makes me crazy is the way society treats women who go from long hair to short hair. Like, I know most feminists are cognizant of this, but it's wild how commonly it plays out in the public eye with even the most popular female celebrities: even when they continue to perform femininity and heteronormativity in every other expected way, public opinion turns on them and all their previously beloved quirks start being perceived as obnoxious and unlikable.

Katy Perry, Jennifer Lawrence, Miley Cyrus, Doja Cat, Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Demi Lovato, Britney Spears, Emma Watson... the list goes on. A faux panic ensues about their mental health, followed by speculation about their sexuality (or, more commonly now, their "gender identity,") followed by a sudden souring towards everything they say and do. Their projects will flop and get picked apart like never before, comment sections will turn overwhelmingly negative, tabloids get harsher. They only start "redeeming" themselves to the public once they inevitably give in and start wearing extensions or wigs, or when their hair finally grows back (they never keep it short.)

As everyday women, we see this happen even if we aren't consciously aware. We know there are interpersonal and professional consequences for failing to perform femininity in the prescribed ways. It keeps us anxious and preoccupied. We waste time and money on the upkeep of our hair (which winds up going double for Black women, who are also dealing with misogynoir and white supremacist beauty standards.) It's enraging. It's bullshit. And it's on purpose.

sometimes i talk about how awful it was to feel trapped by my daily makeup routine and how i couldn’t leave the house without putting on a full face and it played a major role in the misery of my high school experience because i had to spend so much extra time getting ready in the mornings and that followed me into my early 20s as well and it was hell and it was so incredibly liberating to go through the slow and uncomfortable but ultimately essential process of getting my bare face back and having makeup be an optional accessory instead of a mandatory uniform. and the response always tends to be ah yes of course, because of your trans and your masculine. and it’s like aha so close! actually! I think if I ended up being a feminine cis woman I also still would not deserve even a second of that shit! I think trans women and nonbinary people and every human alive should have the option to leave the house without a single cosmetic product ever touching their face! but thanks for playing!

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think Superheroes should kill sometimes. Never killing at all is impractical and for most it isn’t a key part of their character (and I think it makes the few who really have a strict never-kill policy more interesting). Honestly, I’m really sick of the whole “if you kill evil people you’re as bad as them” as a blanket statement with no nuance. There’s a difference between killing someone just because you’re angry and want to hurt them back, and killing someone to stop them from harming others when they’ve made it clear there is no other way to stop them and they have zero remorse or humanity.

If they choose violence over and over, it’ll come back to them. Fuck the idea that we all have to suffer to protect evil men from the consequences of their own actions. There’s been quite enough of that shit. And if you’re a Superhero, you’ve taken on the responsibility to protect people as best you can so choosing to not kill someone whose sole objective is to harm people and will never stop is not a neutral choice. Superheroes should make choices when to spare people and when to say enough is enough, that makes it more meaningful when they do spare people and that’s the kind of choices that have to be made as someone with that much power and responsibility.

Kara was right to spare Ruthie from further traumatizing herself, it wasn’t about him it was about her and he didn’t have to take anything else from her. Kara was also right to kill Krem and presumably most of the other rapists and murderers, they were only going to keep doing this. Superman 2025 and Supergirl 2026 establishing sex trafficking and genocide as hard lines that don’t deserve redemption is a very… topical statement.

Ozai is so pathetic, like that “take his bending away haha he’s harmless now” trick would never have worked on Zuko, if you took his bending away he’d just grab his swords and come at you twice as hard, Azula doesn’t have swords or anything but she’s pretty good at hand to hand and amazing at talking her way out of problems, Iroh bust himself out of prison with no bending at all, meanwhile Ozai? Gets his bending taken away and then just collapses, doesn’t even try anymore, then just sits in prison and tries to get into Zuko’s head some more, he could have trained up and tried to break out too! But no! Bet he can’t break steel bars with his bare hands. Bet he can’t kick a steel lever in two. Bet he can’t even do a flip.

Also we never really see him do any really impressive firebending apart from when he has magic comet power, I guesss he shoots some lightning at Zuko, but that’s it and Azula is still better at the lightning thing. Azula has blue flames. Zuko can do firebreakdancing and bend with his swords. Does Ozai, who is not 14 years old, have blue flames? No he doesn’t.

He didn’t even do his coup himself, Ursa had to kill Azulon for him! Could have just challenged Iroh to an Agni Kai for the throne but he didn’t bc he knew he’d lose.

And then he only ruled for like 6 years! He lost a war that had been going on for 100 years bc of a bunch of kids.
