Ancient Bristlecone Pine tree under the Milky Way

Pretty sure that’s “Methalusa,” one of the oldest known trees still alive. It’s over 4,800 years old.
Yo you know about that one tree that spread it’s roots so far that every tree around it is a literal clone of itself and it’s estimated at 80,000 years old?
Yeah that shits rad af. It’s dying tho, which is sad.
They’re experimenting ways to save Pando. But still. One. Fuckin. Tree:
welp.
omg look at that font size
they literally gave that fucking child 5 lines in font size 24pt to fucking read out “nazis are bad” and this colossal failure of a human went on an honest to gods rant about how nazis arent all to blame because they’re just defending the statue and its a slipperly slope! george washingtong could be next!!!!!
I like how this simultaneously confirms that Trump is a raging nazi/klan sympathizer and adds more supporting evidence to Samantha Bee’s Totally Real 100% Valid Theory.

I’m not saying that the entirety of Darling’s character was written with the express purpose of paying homage to Julie D’Aubingny and her incredible French weapon-wielding homosexuality, but,
Okay, here’s a little theater/musicals rant
So I had an audition for a production of Into the Woods today. While reading through a scene with some other people auditioning before we actually auditioned with the scene, I let it slip that my experience with Into the Woods has mostly only consisted of the movie (which I’ve watched and listened to more times than I can count). That drew some looks from a couple of the others. Now listen. I consider my love of musicals to be a big part of who I am. The music I listen to regularly is mostly showtunes and Beyonce. That said, there are plenty of shows that I have not experienced. I still haven’t experienced Fun Home! My Sondheim experience is basically just Into the Woods with a couple random songs thrown in there, unless you count West Side Story (which I think Sondheim would rather I didn’t). The list goes on. My experience today makes me wonder: What is the requirement to be considered a “true fan” of musicals? Do I not qualify if most of the musicals I’ve seen are movies? What if I’ve watched bootlegs but haven’t been to actually see the show live? Do those count? If I listen to the soundtracks, are those enough? What if I’ve mostly just seen/listened to well known shows? Am I not a true fan?
The fact is, theater is not exactly very accessible. Shows, especially professional ones, cost some dough. And bootlegs are not the easiest things to watch. You can listen to soundtracks, but, while there are some shows like Hamilton that tell you the whole story through the songs, there are other shows like Dear Evan Hansen that really do not. I don’t have the funds to be going to shows all the time. The only professional live show I’ve ever been to was the Newsies national tour last year. I’ve seen bootlegs of Wicked and If/Then and Hamilton and Next to Normal, but who knows what professional productions I’ll end up being able to see live. I’ve been out of the acting world for like 3 years, so I haven’t been exposed to any not-super-popular shows that I may have been exposed to through acting friends or being in said shows. But I enjoy a lot of the shows that I have experienced, and movies are a good way to experience them! Movies are not perfect adaptations, and you may be partial to the OBC or the songs that had to be cut for the movie or whatever, but movies make these works accessible to people who otherwise would not have a chance to experience them.
tldr: There are different kinds of musical fans, and some are mostly only able to watch the movie versions of shows and that’s okay! You don’t have to watch every obscure show live to be a true fan!
ok this is “earring magic ken” who was introduced in 1992 (and discontinued shortly thereafter)
basically mattel had done a survey and discovered that girls didn’t think ken was “cool” enough
SO someone had the bright idea to research coolness by sending people to raves which, at the time, were mostly hosted & attended by gay men. so they went to these raves and took notes on what the fashions were and finally landed on this outfit, mesh shirt & all
this doll became the best selling ken doll in history, mostly because gay men bought it in droves. (many of them said his necklace was supposed to be a cockring) but mattel and a number of parents weren’t very amused and discontinued the doll
honestly i never want to hear again about how bisexuals don’t go through any type of struggle cause i had a conversation with a dude who has a boyfriend but my bi-fi went off with him and when i asked him if he was bi or gay the damn STRUGGLE on his face to give me an answer. he didn’t say anything for a bit and then shyly said “bisexuality doesn’t exist” and when i told him it did and explained about my bisexuality and about biphobia he //cried//. We were in the middle of a bar and this grown man was in full on tears in shock yet grateful biphobia was even a thing; going on about how he was always laughed at when he explained how he was attracted to women and men and how he was ostracized from his gay friends for not being gay enough so he denies a very real part of him to feel accepted and if that’s not fucked i don’t know what is. BISEXUALS ARE LGBT. PERIOD. FIGHT ME.
Tsitsi Masiyiwa. A true hero.
I was about to say wtf is her NAME! I wish they’d stopped doing that and also what country of Origin!
ALSO her husband’s business went under when they were married, they were completely penniless together, and then they built that business up and he made millions TOGETHER. She didn’t just marry some millionaire. Y'all have no trouble talking about Melinda Gates (using her name, not saying she’s just some woman who married a millionaire) but can’t do it with Tisitsi?
Tsitsi has a doctorate. She sits on the boards of PATH and END Fund, and is a founding member of the African Philanthropy Forum. She’s pretty incredible.
She’s from Zimbabwe, not “Africa.” We don’t call Melinda Gates “North American”
reblogging for the commentary.
Oh, well when you put it that way, you’re right! It sure is hard to live on half a million a year!
Every apologia for the rich sounds like a call for revolution.
The more I look at this, the more enraged I become. These assholes live SO WELL and still have over $7k left at the end of the year but it’s “feeling average”? Bitch, the average person has never had $7k left over.
$10,000 for “miscellaneous, something always comes up.”
Look, I have a “something always comes up” cushion now (it’s certainly not that much, but it exists), and am grateful because I didn’t always have that, but “something always comes up” for EVERYONE and that usually means miss work or ride the bus because you can’t afford to get your car fixed or beg and borrow money from family/friends if you’re lucky enough to have that.
Your slush money budget alone is 20% the national median income, and you still end up with seven grand left over at the end of the year, shut the fuck up.
3 vacations a year, at $6,000 a piece.
I love the “no fancy bags, shoes, or threads” while they’re driving a land rover and a bmw & living in a $1.5 million dollar home.
$2,375 in clothes per person, “no fancy bags, shoes, or threads”
Something I find incredibly cool is that they’ve found neandertal bone tools made from polished rib bones, and they couldn’t figure out what they were for for the life of them.
Until, of course, they showed it to a traditional leatherworker and she took one look at it and said “Oh yeah sure that’s a leather burnisher, you use it to close the pores of leather and work oil into the hide to make it waterproof. Mine looks just the same.”
“Wait you’re still using the exact same fucking thing 50,000 years later???”
“Well, yeah. We’ve tried other things. Metal scratches up and damages the hide. Wood splinters and wears out. Bone lasts forever and gives the best polish. There are new, cheaper plastic ones, but they crack and break after a couple years. A bone polisher is nearly indestructible, and only gets better with age. The more you use a bone polisher the better it works.”
It’s just.
50,000 years. 50,000. And over that huge arc of time, we’ve been quietly using the exact same thing, unchanged, because we simply haven’t found anything better to do the job.

This is the Earths theme tune🙌🏻
It’s so strangely satisfying?
Lin-Manuel Miranda said in an interview that he wrote the song “You’re Welcome” for Maui once he knew the character would be voiced by Dwayne the rock Johnson because he thought that Dwayne the rock Johnson would be the one person on earth who could sing something so egotistical and have us completely convinced we should be thanking him and honestly he’s not wrong.
This just further proves my theory that he added in the “Maui can do everything but float” line knowing that people will be making the pun about “the reason floating is the only thing Maui can’t do is because he’s The Rock”.
i downloaded this god damn episode just so everyone could watch this fukkin clip
