There’s actually something so sickening about Clark crashing out when Dick takes over as Batman and wears the suit. Dude flipped out and lost it on his favorite Robin, the kid he and Bruce helped raise together. He screams in his face and fucking crashes out because he’s grieving Bruce and here is Batman standing right in front of him but it’s not him. And it should be easier to bear that transition because it’s Dick, but it isn’t.

I attended an anti-suicide seminar in college. One of the big takeaways from it was that stigmatizing suicide increases the rate of suicide, because people who are feeling suicidal feel like they can't ask for help. Every time I see babytalk garbage like 'unalive', I think of that.

Growing up in a conservative religion, all of this reeks of that past I’m trying to escape from. People speaking in hushed voices behind closed doors but acting like everything is perfect on the pulpit.

Self-censorship is the first thing they taught to us in primary school. Swear words are replaced by different ones, but even those are treated as “unholy”. I was looked down on for saying “this sucks” or “are you freaking serious” or even “what the heck?” Because any form of expression that isn’t positive was deemed of Satan.

I am disgusted by how quickly online spaces have turned into a similar puritanical monolith of language. Trigger warnings and self censorship aren’t the solution to the problems. It’s just another way to ignore and hide from the dark realities of this fucked up world.

I’m isolated online because I scare people with my blunt acknowledgment of the horrors. But I’m not isolated offline. People hold space for me. We have deep discussions where self censoring is nonexistent.

But I recognize I’m also in predominately adult spaces in my day to day life. Another part of the problem is that kids and teens don’t have as many spaces to go online anymore.

No idea what the solution is, but maybe we should stop with this “think of the children” bullshit mindset so many have adopted. That’s always an excuse used by conservatives to control. Policing others language is only going to create a “There is no war in Ba Sing Se” culture.
