If your employer does not let you drink water at work, they are in violation of OSHA Standard 1910.141(b) and you can and should report them on the OSHA website. As more informed security professionals have noted, the issue was always that ProtonMail was selling itself as something it wasn’t. It’s end-to-end encrypted, but it collects metadata, and not sharing that metadata was always a matter of policy- meaning the law can break that guarantee at any time. An end-to-end system is useless if your adversary can identify the endpoints (your group members). Of course, the activists in question could have done more to anonymize themselves (such as using a VPN/Onion routing for accessing ProtonMail).

But as noted above, in any security scenario where your threat model includes a state level actor, the best thing you can do is limit the actual flow of information, and de-tech things. If someone doesn’t need to know something (especially identifying information on others), they shouldn’t know it. You should assume the adversary will capture a group member, and that they will break, so you need to be able to damage control that. You are also vulnerable to infiltration (good piece on that here) and turncoats, regardless of how solid your technical comms are. Proper operational security accounts for all the human elements involved, because adversaries will pick at those if they can. Especially state-level actors, who are prepared to use tactics like kidnapping & torture. Take your opsec seriously and study it, because your hypothetical adversary definitely is.

AND LIKE green death is literally the only disposition that doesnt hurt people!! embalming is bad for everyone involved. cremation puts out really bad chemicals and uses a shit ton of energy. alkaline hydrolysis is another great alternative but too many people think its "gross" or whatever. look at me. look me in the eyes. look me in my tumblr dot com eyes. when you die, you can get tossed into the dirt. it is literally your funeral. get what you want

on another note, i am begging my bipoc and lgbtq+ friends (esp trans bipoc) to think about death. i know how morbid this is trust me. i know its offputting. there are too many trans people who die misgendered. research your rights to die trans. caitlin doughty has a really good video on this but im literally in the middle of my funeral directing class so i cant find it rn
