sorry if this is bad it’s like 2 am or something 💀
butterflies fluttered in your stomach as the car turned onto one of the wealthier streets.
“how wealthy is your mom?” you asked.
“um, pretty wealthy.” a sheepish look crossed over her face as awkward silence hung in the air.
“will there be anyone else there?”
“probably my mom’s boyfriend, jack unfortunately.”
“sometimes i forget your his number one fan.” a laugh bubbled out of you as kate gave you an “intimidating” glare. even she was biting back a laugh.
the car rolled to a stop outside of a fancy building. it was slightly larger than the ones surrounding it. kate ran around to open the door for you. accepting her hand and thanking her.
a blush crawled up her face as she stared at you. you had tried to find the nicest dress you owned and made sure your makeup looked good.
you’ve heard about kate’s mom before. she was rather modest and you knew she wasn’t very fond of kate running around. so, you wanted to prove that you were respectful and a good influence on kate. maybe then she’ll be ok with it.
cars began to honk for kate and you to move out of the way. you both hurried up to the sidewalk hand in hand. walking inside you were taken away with how beautiful the architecture was. kate had greeted the doorman you had passed on the way to the elevator.
“i’m nervous.” you finally confessed once the elevator doors closed. kate’s hand squeezed your hand in reassurance.
“i’ll be by your side the whole time.” she smiled at you as the elevator doors opened.
a grand foyer opened up to you. a large pot of flowers sat on a table in the middle of the room. nobody was around though.
instead of kate’s mom coming in a middle aged man came in. someone you can only assume is her boyfriend. gray streaked his hair and beard. while there was a dangerous aura around him.
“jack.” kate gave a small smile, but you could tell she was already uncomfortable.
“jack is that them!” a women’s voice came. she appeared in the foyer in a matter of seconds.
“oh kate!” she ran to give her a hug and once the two broke away she cupped her face. “please tell me you haven’t done anything stupid recently.”
“trust me i haven’t.” kate smiled, but this time it was a true smile. her mom turned to you a mask falling across her face.
“you must be y/n.” you offered her a weak smile before she turned away. jack was still standing there a smirk tugging at his lips.
“dinner’s this way unless you all want to stand there.”
you could feel jack staring at you while you took a seat. you sat next to kate who sat across from her mother, with jack across from you.
the food was already there. steam rolling off of it. it smelled delicious and you were going to compliment kate’s mom until she started talking to kate.
“so how’s school?” as if it was a sore subject the tension in the air began to increase.
“it’s fine. how about we talk about something else.” kate suggested.
“fine.” silence fell over and the tension was still there.
you all stay in awkward silence for a few minutes until jack was the one to speak up. “so how did u meet y/n?” he asked waving in your direction with a fork.
“we met at an archery camp. y/n was trying archery the first time and i taught her some of the basics”
“ah, why am i not surprised.”
“what’s that suppose to mean?” kate was turning rather bitter and angry towards her mother. you knew it wasn’t your fault, but you felt somewhat responsible for this outcome.
“can’t you just be happy for me?”
“it’s just going to take time, honey.” kate’s mom let a small smile form, but kate wasn’t buying it.
“kate don’t leave,” her mother called out, but by then you were already in the elevator.
“i’m sorry about dinner.” kate chuckled awkwardly.
“it’s ok. i think your mom just needs time and that’s ok.”
gently kissing her you replied, “positive.”
