it's such bs that the whole guilt-ridden stoic self-sacrificing martyr thing doesn't work outside of fiction. repressing all your emotions and neglecting your physical wellbeing should make you god's most tragically beautiful morally unassailable little soldier of righteousness but all it does is give you bad skin and gastrointestinal problems
Keepin it cool! Experimenting with some more painterly backgrounds for her, gouache on wood panel.

It's the Royal Academy of Art Young Artist's Summer Show. One of my favourite exhibitions of the year. Like. Not only are the older kids insanely talented, the younger ones' artist statements will just punch you right in the face.

Being into popular ships from popular media is weak. Barely hits. To get a real high try pacing your bedroom like a caged animal at 6am obsessively thinking about an insanely niche pairing from an insanely niche piece of media, performing an imaginary ted talk to an audience of zero.
Caught myself spiraling and then remembered it's just my body not wanting to exist in these temperatures
dude you have x’s for eyes are you ok
the clock app always picks the numbers for you but in calculator the numbers can be anything you want
You know Jones soda cap, as a tumblr user i can actually say i think I have.
Saw a tweet about mamdani solving the astrophage crisis and now im just imagining them sending mamdani to space
This came to me at 3pm in the afternoon

I cannot overstate how much time Pangur spends upside down in my arms
it’s all day, every day
and another thing: no child should ever be made fun of for things they love especially by their parents
it should go without saying but apparently it needs to be said over and over and over again because every time i hear my mom tease my sister for playing wolfquest, every time i hear a teacher tease a kid for doodling, every time i hear a babysitter laugh at a kid explaining the plot of a show they like, it drives a fuckin stake through my heart because i was that kid once.
i was made fun of enough times by adults, by peers, for liking something and wanting to share it that i just. didn’t. anymore.
dont fucking tease kids for liking things. even if you think its cringe. ESPECIALLY. if you think its cringe. because the way you speak and act towards them when they are sharing themselves with you STICKS and they will think of it years down the line.
BE NICE TO KIDS. BE NICE TO KIDS. LISTEN WHEN THEY SPEAK TO YOU. BE. FUCKING. NICE. TO. KIDS.
I was a substitute teacher for a little while between grad schools, and one day I had a middle school math class for the morning. The work they were assigned wasn’t *especially* hard, and one little girl knocked it out in 20 minutes. She started drawing what was very obviously Sans Undertale, and when I noticed I wanted to be supportive, and had the following exchange:
“What’s that you’re drawing?”
*panicking* “It’s nothing, I’m sorry, I’ll put it away.”
“No it’s okay, I was just curious about it.”
“It’s nothing. I don’t want to get in trouble.”
“You’re not in trouble, I just thought it looked like a character from a video game I like.”
Her face *lit up* the second I gave her the smallest bit of approval. She started asking me if I’d heard of various AUs for Undertale, and I tried to follow along as she explained her favorites. I obviously had to keep an eye on the rest of the class, answering questions and helping with algebra, but each time I passed her desk she had more things to tell me.
Anyway, it was very cute, but also a little sad how obviously starved she was for someone kind to talk about her stories with. Kids deserve to have someone in their corner, and it takes no effort at all to smile and listen if they have something they want to share. Preserve the earnestness you want to see in the world.
reading backrooms discussion like "we need a house of leaves movie" "this feels like what house of leaves could have been if it got a movie" "please make house of leaves next"
and it's very clear to me that this is being said by people who have only heard of house of leaves and never actually read it, at least not past a surface level
house of leaves is a series of letters written by a schizophrenic institutionalized woman written to her possibly dead son who kept his own schizo-journal that contained obsessive thoughts about a thesis paper written by a blind man which notated and commentated on a series of home videos and audio tapes that were about the exploration of an impossible house with infinite dimensions
the point and irony of house of leaves is that, like the house itself, the story refuses to be contained within the restrictive walls of any containable finite artistic medium and so to suggest that it should or even COULD be adapted into a single hollywood film ironically makes you sound as insane and ignorant as will navidson
DON'T YOU BRING PIRANESI INTO THIS
YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT BUT DON'T GIVE THEM ANY IDEAS
Kelly Link said she tells her students to list two things before they start writing:
- what are the books that would make you the happiest to be compared to
- what are the story elements that keep you reading even when the book straight up isn’t good
Because you’re aiming for the first one. But during the process you will be writing something that isn’t great, probably. So what elements would it need to keep you going even if it isn’t great.
I like that a lot. I was like I’m gonna make a list now. But in my head the list was just like
1) when there’s a character who is gavroche
2)
my unwoke thought. i dont think all genderbent characters should look exactly the same as their original. it takes a certain wisdom to know when their femininity or masculinity is key to their character regardless of gender, or when the behaviors/traits tied to their gender (or the opposite gender) being important to them is actually is what's at play here. though i do think more people should make genderbent characters look exactly the same if it means there's more muscular women. end post
