Yes, the fics where Ilya goes to Shane's game in his jersey are cute and romantic. But why has no one even considered:
ever since Jacob said that the show is formatted through memories I can’t help but notice that structure even more significantly. The hockey games are a blur, we don’t see them, because in Hollanov’s memory, the only thing that stands out is each other. It’s exactly how memory works, especially when you love someone- the reality of it blurs over time, but they remain vivid. You fixate on certain details, touches, kisses. (One of my favourite scenes in the whole show is Shane talking to Rose and remembering his encounters with Ilya)
I honestly think this conscious decision throughout is what makes the time jumps completely seamless, because we’re still grounded in the emotional reality of these memories.
It’s what I personally like to call ‘trim the fat’ writing, which so many shows fail to do, with bloated scripts and way too much exposition and audience handholding. JT said ‘fuck that’ and I respect it heavy
anyway I love the little vignettes. #ourvignettes <3
Shane can't help the smile when he reads the message on his phone. He leans against the kitchen island with his hip, while Ilya is putting away the last few pieces from the dishwasher.
"What is funny?"
"Hm?" Shane looks up, Ilya is studying him.
"Another message from Rose?" Ilya says in a way that Shane realises is meant to sound uninterested, before turning to put a stack of plates where they belong.
"All her messages so far have been about how things are going with you." He says with fond exasperation. They've had this topic twice already.
Ilya closes the dishwasher and mirrors Shanes lean against it, crossing his arms. Shrugs.
"Tell her amazing. I am the best at sex and you can't get enough of me. And that she can talk to you in october."
Shane snorts and shakes his head. I did tell her the first bit. He doesn't add that.
"It wasn’t Rose. It was my dad."
Ilya stands up straighter instantly, arms uncrossing.
"Oh."
"What, no joke how he can't be funny because he's boring?" Shane doesn't fight his smile.
"I like your farther, he drinks good vodka. What did he say?" The serious tone of his voice makes Shane move closer, wrapping his arms around Ilya's middle and squeeze him a little with his next words.
"He said he thinks my boyfriend is a good egg."
Ilya pulls his head back, to look at Shane better in surprise. There's a hestitant smile but he's also frowning.
"Egg?"
The smile on Shane's face grows wide and soft. He nods. "Mhmm."
"Is good thing, yes?"
"Yes." Shane leans in for a short kiss. Just a peck. Then two more because Ilya has this proud little smile on his face now.
"So, they don't hate me for you."
It's said as a statement, but Shane answers it anyway, to make sure Ilya hears it.
"They don't hate you for me." With a single nod.
The following kisses are hindered by the wide grin on Ilya's face.
---
Ilya googles the saying later in bed, with a sleeping Shane beside and half on top of him. The warm feeling that spreads through him when he reads the words makes him press closer to Shane and too giddy to sleep for a while. Repeating the explanation he found in his head on a loop. Shane's dad thinks he's a thoroughly good, kind, and reliable person.

I'm sorry, but give Apo and Peter another series, please😭🫠
(Never thought I would see Apo having this much chemistry with someone who is not P’Mile😶)
Might be a stupid complaint - but I'm not a fan how they showed us Victor's dead body and Veera's entire murder scene, yet when it comes to Pracha, the big who did all that? We just get a news report saying "oh yeah he died in his cell, might've been murder... moving on!"
I kind of get it because both of their deaths were symbolic and Pracha was frankly barely a character besides just being The Evil Guy in Power. What would seeing his body have brought us in terms of the show itself?
Seeing Victor dead gave us the painful scene of his friends mourning and Trin begging him to wake up and Krailert slowly realizing what had really happened and the pain that everything was causing on a personal level.
Seeing Veera dead told us how evil had grown and how much he had sacrificed to protect Krailert and Dhevi. We had to see the message with his body to understand why his fellow soldiers would burn all the evidence that Pracha asked them to reveal.
But Pracha's death? It was just a death. It was just an evil man revealed in... we're not talking about that... ways that lead to a deserved death.
Veera and Victor were sacrifices. They were victims.
Pracha just died.
I'm really happy that they showed Victor and Tanwa's final conversation. How Victor was aware that things could actually get really nasty. It was him who said to protect Trin. Not that Tanwa had to be told that, but it did add context to his motivation. It also added depth to their relationship
ok finished the last ep of shine and im devastated and i have no one to talk to about it
I think one of my favorite things about ep 8 is the reveal about Dhevi. The whole show i felt a little let down by her as a character because she seemingly had no agency and was just at the whims of plot and male characters and I kept wanting more for/from her and whoo did i get it
It was set up from the beginning that part of how Krailert got his position/power was because of his marriage to her. She has the power. Her father and her brothers give it to her and Krailert uses it accordingly (because this was the 60s and hes a man). So to see her use it? Or at least embrace it? That was great. But then when it failed her she still knew how to get him out of jail and did it!
But more importantly to the story she is revealed to have known all along about Krailert and both of his (known) lovers. Was it shitty of her to trap a gay man in a sham marriage? Yeah of course it was. Was it gracious of her to do what she could to save her husband and his lover once it got to the point where her brothers would kill them both if Krailert stepped even further out of line? Yeah it was. Was it shitty for her to use that situation to coerce her (gay) husband to impregnate her? Yeah of course it was. She has layers. I love her so much.
And from a story telling perspective its even better. Krailert has been doomed from the beginning. There was no way his story had a happy ending. We knew this. The story told us this. Repeatedly. And yet when it came, it was done in such an unexpected way that it was a genuine plot twist while still delivering exactly what we knew was coming. I loved it
As someone said in the tags earlier... we (and Krailert) were so busy worrying about the bullet to the head we were blindsided by the knife to the back
Shine (ชาย) | EP. 8 | 2025 "Apo" Nattawin Wattanagitiphat as Trin Suwannaphat
Shine (ชาย) | EP. 8 | 2025 "Mile" Phakphum Romsaithong as Tanwa Chatbodi
Apo as Trin in episode 8 of Shine the series
Trin and Tanwa got their happy ending, I can breathe again! 🥹
Rest in Peace, Victor. You were gone too soon but you will never be forgotten 🤍
