help keep a black trans woman off the streets
hey guys its aaliyah! a few days ago my land lord basically told me my female roommates aren’t comfortable sharing a room with me because I’m transgender??? they said tht me being transgender & having friends over (which wasnt detailed in the craigslist ad) is huge problem & I’m basically being given a month to leave. if you follow me on IG you know I’ve been trying to get a new job because my current one at starbucks hasnt been cutting it. they barely giving me any hours & because of that I’ve had to reduce my savings these past couple months from $400 to $100 just to get by. Good news is I found a new place in the area tht I can afford Bad news is its gonna be $900 to move ib (monthly $600 plus $300 deposit) if there is any way yall could spare a couple bucks each to help me get there I would more than appreciate it.

It’s almost like…giving people enough to money to live instead of survive…is good
Imagine how much better those numbers would be if people had faith that basic income would continue and was available to everyone, everywhere.
The reason all of these things happen is, simply, because people are no longer held over a barrel by the threat of starvation and homelessness. They can afford to choose a job that they like and find fulfilling, or focus on developing their skills or educating themselves so that they can go into the fields they find genuinely interesting, instead of scrabbling to get whatever job - and whatever income - they can find and cling to it, white-knuckled, for fear of losing it all and becoming destitute at the drop of some rich fucker’s hat.
These people are living for themselves, rather than pissing their lives away to line the pockets of their bosses.
He missed one:
Road accidents go down.
Seriously, in one experiment, basic income reduced the number of car accidents. There’s no indication as to exactly why, but my personal assumption is people who are less stressed by money drive better.
Also, the same experiment showed no decrease in employment except for high school students (who concentrated on their studies) and those in the third trimester of pregnancy or within six months of giving birth (who were able to concentrate on their offspring).
Don’t let the right wing hijack this concept. They’re trying.
I don’t think the reduced car accidents are specifically because of less money stress. Instead, I’d guess that it’s just a result of people taking less risks on their commute to work, because being late can’t ruin them anymore. If you’re late for work, you might lose your job, and for people living paycheck to paycheck… sudden unemployment will probably kill them. So if they’re late, and driving safely won’t get them to work in time, driving like a lunatic is genuinely the safer option for them.
But with universal basic income, losing a job isn’t devastating, so people aren’t forced to gamble their lives to try and get to work on time. So they’re not crashing, and they’re not being a hazard to other people on the road, which means everyone’s commute is a lot safer and less accidents are happening.
also people aren’t sleep-deprived from working multiple jobs. we all know sleeplessness kills.
There’s some other reasons university basic income might reduce car accidents from a mechanic’s point of view. People with better financial security can afford to better maintain their vehicles avoiding say brake or tyre issues becoming critical whilst driving.
Recipients may also be able to own or finance newer vehicles less likely to have an accident causing failure in the first place.
Also people on UBI may not need to drive to work at all. Fewer cars on the road = fewer accidents.
IIRC, another segment of of people who stop working under GBI are people over 60 - old people are able to retire without suffering hardship.
So far I have not heard one bad outcome from UBI. And this post seems to suggest that in addition to all the expected good outcomes, there are also additional UNEXPECTED good outcomes. Seriously, just give people money.

when u encounter a kid who is So Small
[ID: a crudely drawn three-panel comic showing a large figure, representing an adult, and a small figure, representing a child. in the first panel the adult is doing spooky monster hands at the child, who gleefully exclaims “A!”
in the second panel, the child grabs the adult’s hand with their very tiny hand and says, “got u.”
the third panel shows the child happily holding onto the adult’s hand while the adult, wide-eyed and on the verge of tears, thinks “how are u that small.”]
@batsiskos
no more homework. abolish it
we do not need to spend our entire childhood and early adulthood doing hours and hours of work in overdrive with no reward or even a break, exhausting ourselves mentally and physically for a letter grade. homework isn’t even necessary. it helps no one learn and has actually been proven to be a detriment to school work and health. people flourish with time for creativity rest and imagination. our capitalistic school system is destroying that for the sake of creating some worn-out and beaten down little machines. not to mention the ableism and classism in expecting every student fo have the same amount of time and ability to do assignments to the standards of the school.

These came very quickly and are beautifully made! My cat looked adorable in them - he was the grumpiest little bat, but very stylish.
Aww I want something like this for my black cat 🥺
For clarification ^-^
Honestly the fact that Crunchyroll intentionally removed all closed captioning options for their tv app should be fucking criminal. You can only get subtitles if you watch the subbed Japanese version. If you watch dubbed anime and you're Deaf or HOH, Crunchyroll intentionally removed all closed captioning support. There is no work around.
I'm not kidding when I say that this should be fucking illegal.
So, I did a bit of research, and from what I can tell this is actually illegal.
Crunchyroll is a streaming service, and closed captions for all video content have been upheld as a requirement of the ADA. The courts determined this back in 2012 with Netflix, when they got sued by NAD and as a result had to add closed captioning for all their programs.
It looks like if people would like to file a complaint about this lack of accessibility, they can do so with the FCC here:
https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=36040
There’s an option for “Lack of closed captioning over the internet”, so you would want to select that and then explain the issue.
💫CUTE HATS💫
My brother and I were making sandwiches and we decided on an alignment chart for how sandwiches are cut.
How do you feel about this
i will reap the teeth that the Lord sowed in your foolish mouth
i feel like people have forgotten what “NSFW” actually stands for after all these years
it stands for “not safe for work,” as in “material that could get you fired if your boss sees you looking at it at your place of employment”
tagging things as “nsfw” is not something to be politicized, it is a courtesy to your fellow humans so that they do not get fired or socially ostracized for someone’s whole dick being out on their computer
Reblogging because I recently saw someone saying in their blog description that they didn’t post NSFW, but that they did reblog “tasteful or artistic nudity.”
Like…. No… That’s not how it works…..
NSFW is not a moral judgment; it’s common courtesy.
THIS IS THE CUTEST SHIT IVE EVER SEENNNN
college is catered towards the able bodied and able minded. school applauds people who can stay up all night, skip meals, and work endlessly. that kind of extreme contribution is expected. why are disabled people being squeezed out of academic institutions? why should I feel inferior because of some arbitrary and ridiculous standard?
The undying truth.
Not to mention, every college campus Ive ever been on is MADE of stairs and hills.
I tried to talk to one of my college professors about my ADHD once and he literally stopped me and said if I couldn’t handle it I shouldn’t be there
Read the book Academic Ableism on this subject. It’s an excellent read and I genuinely think about it all the time still even though I read it a couple years ago.
Here’s the Open Access version.
