like it’s maybe going to sound odd but the fact that shane’s parents don’t realize he’s the horniest person alive is actually the crux of it. because it’s so clear that sex isn’t just sex to shane he is taking his entire strangled sense personhood and shoving it in the gay sex basket. it’s psychologically load bearing. it has eclipsed the basic concept of sexual desire and come to contain ALL libido and desire and want. like him being gay is almost inconsequential because it’s fine he can be gay in a bank of america pride float kind of way. but them not seeing shane as horny, not even in the way parents might typically assume their teenaged / young twenties son is horny, THAT is crazy and demonstrates that they don’t know shane at all. they bought the canadian teen heartthrob boy next door branding which they themselves designed. that’s Crazy.
His mum in his hotel at 9 o'clock at night, his dad barging into his home without having gotten permission to come in first, as if the idea of Shane wanting/needing/deserving privacy anywhere simply never entered their minds. Is it any wonder Shane, a grown man, feels like he has to explain where he's going to Hayden, another grown man?
@4me2knowandyou2wonder this about the runaways au mmmmm yummy tasty yummy
i think …. there is a misconception that shane is a goody two shoes rule follower because he likes the actual rules …. but my take is not that really or at least not just that, it’s more that he likes to follow rules because he’s afraid of what happens if he’s caught not following them. it’s less ‘we must follow the speed limit because safety is important’ and more ‘if i get caught speeding it will be in the news and people will think differently of me and label me as a trouble maker then no team will want me and i will be shuffled off to the farm team or worse so i must follow the speed limit exactly at all times’. he likes rules because they give him guidelines on how to act, not necessarily because he thinks they’re Just and Right. just maybe something to think about when writing shane as a tight ass rules follower who does nothing wrong ever !
we Do Not talk enough about the 'i wish you were here right now' 'i wish i was too' at the end of the phonecall scene in ep 5. like???????? the sheer earnestness of it????????? it's maybe not an 'i love you' but it's a confession in its own right. it's shane saying 'i want you here with me so i can hold you and take care of you and carry some of the weight for you' and how WONDERFUL must that feel to ilya - who has just poured his entire heart out, who is feeling so scraped raw - to hear that even when shane doesn't know what he said?????? and he's So affected by it. so affected that he can't even make himself answer in english. like even at that, his voice still breaks when he replies in russian. and whether shane thinks he's just translating the phrase as asked or not i think he still understands what ilya is saying. and when you think about it, it's the first time they both admit to wanting each other at the same time. ilya refuses to respond to shane's confession of feelings in tampa and shane can't respond to ilya's confession on the phone but this bit. this is the thing they can both say. 'i wish you were here right now' 'i wish i was too' it's so romantic i might die
Ilya is a yearner but Shane is NOT a yearner. Shane is a doer and a problem solver. At first he solves the problem of his feelings for Ilya by compartmentalizing and not feeling them. When this strategy stops working he hard pivots to going after his man. This man is not sitting around pining and suffering he is getting things done!
an important message for Abby Roque
“this character did not act in the most objectively logical way possible!” is not ! actually valid literary criticism
i have trust that the media literacy enjoyers will find this one idk
I'm enjoying the recent Shane v Troy posting, and the thing is I don't even have any particularly strong feelings or opinions about Troy. Honestly I mostly just like when Shane gets to be angry! 😌💕
Overjoyed to have a full house for the first time since everyone went off to college, local mother Leslie Daniels confirmed Thursday it was a dream come true to have all her children back home, a reunion made possible only by the merciless and punishing economic conditions that have stripped an entire generation of financial stability. “I’m so glad to have all my kiddos under the same roof again—it’s just so nice it worked out this way!” Daniels said as she cheerfully stirred a big batch of chili for her three adult children, each of whom had been forced home in their 30s by a brutal convergence of stagnant wages, rising rents, the crushing cost of living, and a job market increasingly corroded by gig labor and artificial intelligence.
Full Story
Something about Ilya still managing to be insecure about their relationship while Shane is locked on like a rabid dog, like 5000 PSI bite strength around that Russian boy. Shane is over here calmly rationalizing "This is not only the only person I've ever loved he's also the only person I can even fathom loving. If he dies I die because life will no longer be worth living. Obviously" and Ilya's like "what if he leaves me for this random Ottawan journalist"
No but like this is canon and it kills me. Shane literally thinks that there's no way any other human ever can be a better kisser than Ilya. In the meantime Ilya has to make sure everyone in this solar system and beyond is aware that Shane Hollander-Rozanov is spoken for lest they get ideas
hey here's a website for downloading any video or image from any website.
works w/ youtube, soundcloud, twitch, twitter (gifs and videos), tumblr (video and audio), and most other websites you're probably lookin to download stuff off of.
for anyone wondering about privacy and whatnot, i'm happy to say that the developers are pretty committed to have 0 trackers and 0 data retention. you can read more in their "about" section, but here's the basic important stuff:
COBALT MENTIONED OUTSIDE OF TWITTER???

Alright girlies we can't let the executive dysfunction win today
I mean alright girlies we can't let the executive dysfunction win tomorrow
did i ever tell you guys that in the mid 2010s there were a couple blogs that were talking shit about me and trying to cancel me for stupid fandom bullshit (I had a porn blog and I shipped billford oh nooo) and I had them blocked but sometimes I couldn't help ragebaiting myself and checking their blogs anyway to see what they were saying. so I used a browser extension to redirect their tumblr urls to crouton.net. and sometimes i would forget and be like "oouugh lemme see what those little shits are saying now" only to be brought to crouton.net instead. it immediately dissolved any anger or curiosity i had about what someone was talking shit about me. I was instead like "oh, crouton. thats right...looking at that stuff isnt good for me. thanks crouton" like it probably actually saved my mental health in college tbh
any tips for developing discipline? ive been going through life on a lackadaisical hedonist build but ive got a bunch of mysterious problems that i may or may not be at fault for
With all this being said, I really enjoy all multi-faceted portrayals of Shane Hollander. No really, if you write him as a mean selfish bitch and it’s well done, I will eat that shit up. If you write him a little softer, a little more compassionate and caring, just make me believe it. Characterization is flexible and characters are allowed to change and grow as well. That’s the fun thing about fandom. I think the show falls somewhere in the middle with enough wiggle room for everyone to interpret things different. Same goes for Ilya honestly. All this to say have fun out there kids, and if I reblog contrasting views on characters it’s because there’s no law that says you can’t consider all sides of an argument. It’s encouraged, in fact! In school, even.
To recap, from the amazing reblogs and tags left on this post today:
It's good to write multifaceted characters
It's good to think "how would a character get to the point of saying that" rather than "he would not fucking say that"
they are dolls for us to play with
fandom meta is an interpretation and you should survive on a healthy fandom diet with many points of view. This post is not about hating on one particular POV, but to remember that you don't have to invalidate your own interpretation when you see a compelling take from someone else. They can inform each other and even enhance the other. Or both can be true in the same character! These are humans.
Shane and Ilya are 17 when they meet and go through a gauntlet of experiences by the end of The Long Game. These experiences will affect them. As a writer, it's up to you on the "how."
To close, beautiful tags from @quillquiver:
#shane hollander#tbh the fact that they contain multitudes is what makes them so real and authentic#and I think why we are all so obsessed with them#yeah there are times Shane is a bitch#and times when he is compassionate and sweet#he can violent#he can be soft#he can be mean#so can Ilya#the tension of existing as themselves in relation to their sport and each other is the entire show!
Beautifully put! As the modern poet Meredith Brooks put it: Shane's a bitch, Shane's a lover, Shane's a child, Shane's a mother... or something like that, definitely how the song goes...
shane hollanders cassandra complex btw . I see the future before me, Something bad is going to happen to me, Something bad has happened to me, it hasnt reached me yet but its on its way. Like he knows coming out is going to be the end of that part of his life, and he knows in his gut its not going to end nicely or well, and hes grieving in anticipation of the day after coming out every day leading up to it. and then when hes outed all of his worst fears come true!
