• oldest sister of two other girls • hated bc of her temper and personality • lost her mother • father ignores her • doesn’t know how to help broken family • watches younger sister risk her life to do the one thing she can’t • probably feels hells useless and insecure • builds huge and unbreakable walls around self • no one understands why she is the way she is • just trying to shield herself from more pain • feels tired of not knowing how to deal w/ her problems • hates that she didn’t help Feyre • hates that she didn’t help Elain • swallowed up by grief/pain/ doubt • its v possible that she has depression • and anxiety • and still • allows those faeries into her household • bc its Feyre • also, those horrible queens • is used by a bunch of assholes and turned into fae • definitely still struggling • 23 y/o struggling w/ huge problems • like an upcoming war • the fact that she is fae now • that both her sisters are fae now • the fact that she couldn’t protect neither of them or herself • and also her remaining parent is a dick • knows so much more than lets on • so smart • so pretty • so pure • and so broken

But sure Nesta is just a fucking bitch bc she let Feyre hunt on her own and like fuck you Nesta

stood up to and intimidated the king of hybern

lacks the support system of/similar to the inner circle which feyre was accepted into

literally no one tries to understand her, but instead blames her wholly for responsibilities that should have fallen on her father but fell onto her as a CHILD when she would have had very little concept of how to deal with any of this

But yeah she needs to grovel in apology to Feyre and Rhys and she is to blame for all the struggles flawless Feyre went through and she is irredeemable, right?

@blxckbeak THANK YOU omfg!!!! i definitely agree. Nesta is one of SJM’s most nuanced characters imo, and all that subtlety and effort to be a better person goes unnoticed/ignored unfortunately because we don’t get to see enough of her and because she’s a female character so she doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt all the time. And Rhys??? Literally?? Broke Feyre’s arm in ACOTAR???? And no one ever talks about this? but he’s all forgiven and becomes everyone’s perfect Cinnamon Roll^TM in ACOMAF?? People have no problem accepting Elain because she conforms to more of a traditionally feminine archetype(?)/is less complex(?)/is nice but tbh if you’re going to fault one Archeron sister for Feyre’s struggles, you can’t ignore the other (or their FATHER).

Omg thank you!!!! See I love Nesta, but not because she’s “mean”, but because I see so much of myself in her. Honestly I hate how much people judge her, if they would just take a little time and think, if I was Nesta what would I REALLY do. Like, think about it, you’re in that situation where EVERYTHING you’ve ever been taught was to be exactly like she is!!! In the books Feyre says that they’re mother was distant, and cared more about parties then them, like think about it, what would it be like for you. Growing up with a mother who doesn’t care about your existence just that you’re behaving a certain way. I’m sorry but Nesta was clearly already messed up BEFORE they’re mother died. But since she was the oldest and didn’t do anything every one just 💩 on her. I’m sorry but how is Elain okay, and Nesta’s not?? Like wtf???

Besides all that, Feyre and Nesta are basically the same person, it’s just that Nesta was a lot more open about it. They both blame they’re father for everything, and hate him for it. (Something that kinda bothers me, because something similar to this happened to my mom when my dad died, but I don’t blame her for it, I get it, I would be a wreck too!) It just drives me crazy because it Nesta is the only realistic character out of everyone, she’s not all like ooo look at this perrrty dress I have, or oooo look at this guy I gats wat a katchh. She’s honest, she’s lonely, and she’s clearly distancing herself cuz she’s done with they’re 💩. They treat her like she’s a monster for having problems. Like ffs Feyre acted the same way when the ic met her, but since she gave them the preconseption about what Nesta was like they just hated her.

AND CASSIAN!!!! Jesus he just, ohhh you were hurt lemme protect uu, but by that I mean act like a 🍑 and then not protect from my family. Ffs he acts like she’s his, and that he loves her??? But then he doesn’t in anyway stand up for her, he just keeps rubbing in Feyre’s side of the story in her face. Like wtf? You don’t know her, or her mind!! Honestly, I’m sorry for the messy ramble. But I’m really excited for the next book where we will hopefully see Nesta’s point of view on EVERYTHING, and where she hopefully finds the courage to tell everyone off. And please sjm please don’t turn her into Feyre 2.0, I really want her to be her own person, and make friends and family for herself. And honestly I kinda hope she writes the ic off and just does what she wants. Maybe she should even join the Exiles, considering she’s one too now. It ASTOUNDS me that anyone can read the Nesta POV chapter at the end of ACoFaS and still hate on her? She’s broken and hollow and drowning and y'all still shit all over her because her pain isn’t quiet or sympathetic? It’s literally the most desolated, heartbreaking thing and still she’s judged?

Nesta’s coping mechanisms hurting those she loves ≠ her actively hurting those she loves. Depression is selfish. PTSD is selfish. But Nesta is barely even present in her own mind, she doesn’t notice time passing, she doesn’t eat; she isn’t even present enough to be selfish. She chooses to live in a hovel and engage in risky behaviours because to her, nothing matters. Nothing. Matters. Not even her own self. Because her self is gone.

Also just quietly, if she were a male character, she wouldn’t get half as much crap as gets dumped on her. Bye.
