Day 3

Today I wanted to write something deep or something nice, but I am too tired, the cat bites me, and I let the time go by to avoid writing, so I should be happy that I achieved what I wanted. Yet... I wanted to visit the farm again with all the sisters, and now they are all deeply asleep in their beds. Tiny Nina, also called Toddler Nina, is in the big bed with Adult Nina. Little Nina is in the same room in her own bed with the brass frame. Teen Nina now has her own room with the slanted ceiling and spends more and more time in there, even during the day. Young Adult Nina is far away to study. Good night, everybody.

Day 2

There's a house lost in the fogs of winter, and four sisters live in it, all with the same name. Little Nina drinks her milk from a bowl, her feet dangling from the chair. Adult Nina watches the moka pot on the stove, waiting for the sound of the coffee rising up. Teen Nina is late again for breakfast, and Tiny Nina is out of sight. There's a very good chance she went again into that cave deep underneath the earth to visit that ugly thing.

Day 1: putting out S in the world because you promised your therapist

As I wrote in a comment under a post basically 30 seconds ago: today, I promised my therapist that I would start posting whatever just to put out something in the world, and again I was delaying to tomorrow, because the thought of writing and posting something terrible paralyses me.

So here is a cringy thing that I wrote as my inner child, enjoy.

"There was not long while ago, a big blue dog whose bark was WHOOF! He was sitting in a clearing in the woods, all alone, and when I passed him running, he said WHOOF! I jumped, and I screamed because the whoof was big, almost as big as the dog, but the dog was very, very blue, and nothing mattered to him anymore. So I sat down with the dog and held his paw in my hands until his fur became a little less blue and a little bit azure.... whoof."

I've noticed more and more in public bathrooms that people skip the handwash and just take a squirt of hand sanitizer from wall dispensers on the way out. hand sanitizer is NOT effective against most things that come out of your ass. i cannot stress this enough. i'm begging y'all. please. please please please please please use the soap.

Thank you for bringing this up! Many hand sanitizers and household cleaners proudly claim to "Kill 99.99% of germs."

In fact, this does not mean that the product kills 99.99% of all germs known to exist.

It means that, during product testing in a controlled environment, the product killed 99.99% of the germs it was specifically tested against. As you might imagine, Lysol isn't testing its kitchen disinfectant spray against millions and millions of unique microbes.

In the U.S., labeling laws usually require that companies actually identify somewhere else on the label which germs are being tested and killed. Next time you see a "kills 99.99% of germs" label, check out the rest of the label, and you'll find the small print which specifies that it kills 99.9% of one type of flu, or Covid, or E. Coli, etc. This is why many labels even include an asterisk, i.e.: "Kills 99.99% of Germs!*" Look for the companion asterisk elsewhere on the label for more info.

There are different kinds of germs, like Viruses; Bacteria, Fungi, and Protozoans.

The way we kill these germs to prevent infections varies based on the germs' structure. Essentially, we need different "weapons" (cleaning methods) to fight different microbes. A product that kills Flu Viruses and E. Coli can't necessarily destroy Norovirus or Giardia.

No product is effective against every type of germ, even common germs which regularly cause illness in households and communities.

Hand washing is effective against more germs, not only because it can destroy germs which hand sanitizer cannot, but because it simply washes them off your hands.

In the hospital where I am employed, our Infection Prevention and Control official started a new campaign of re-inforcement of the hand-washing policy. After the dread of Covid left most people, many stopped being scrupulous with their hand washing. WASH YOUR HANDS, YOU DUMB FOOLS!

Last night I dreamt

Last night I dreamt of a three-headed cat, sitting on my porch, in the sun.

That is not my porch by day, but it was in my dream.

At first, I thought those were three cats, all intertwined with one another like only cats can do, but the second time I watched out of the window, I saw that the muscular black body was only one.

But the heads were still three.

One of them was looking at me, and then the other two as well. They looked at me and saw me like nothing or no one had ever done before, and we both knew something through that stare. It is something that can be said only through a stare.

Then I went on with the rest of my dream. Then the dream was over, and now I am here.

Finding out that Frances Dana Barker Gage, a white woman, rewrote Sojourner Truth’s famous speech to be more stereotypically “Southern slave” (complete with slurs and misspellings like dat, dere, dey) when Sojourner Truth was actually from New York and spoke only Dutch until she was almost ten and wouldn’t have actually sounded that way linguistically and decidedly did not use the phrase “Ain’t I A Woman?” at all is…whew. And on top of everything, she embellished details about Sojourner Truth’s life (like the number of children she had/how many of them were sold into slavery), wrote that ST said that she could take beatings like a man, and the reception of the speech in the room (she claims ST was called a n*gg*r, earlier accounts say the room was welcoming).

Japanese firemen's coats are reversible. When fighting fires, the coat was worn as shown, together with close-fitting trousers, a hood, and gloves. Saturated with water, these garments gave protection against flames. A bold, legible pattern on the back identified the fireman’s brigade. For festive occasions, the pictorial side faced outward. This coat shows the Toad Spirit offering to teach the robber Jiraya magic, provided he used it only to benefit humanity.

I’m watching that documentary “Before Stonewall” about gay history pre-1969, and uncovered something which I think is interesting.

The documentary includes a brief clip of a 1954 televised newscast about the rise of homosexuality. The host of the program interviewed psychologists, a police officer, and one “known homosexual”. The “known homosexual” is 22 years old. He identifies himself as Curtis White, which is a pseudonym; his name is actually Dale Olson.

So I tracked down the newscast. According to what I can find, Dale Olson may have been the first gay man to appear openly on television and defend his sexual orientation. He explains that there’s nothing wrong with him mentally and he’s never been arrested. When asked whether he’d take a cure if it existed, he says no. When asked whether his family knows he’s gay, he says that they didn’t up until tonight, but he guesses they’re going to find out, and he’ll probably be fired from his job as well. So of course the host is like …why are you doing this interview then? and Dale Olson, cool as cucumber pie, says “I think that this way I can be a little useful to someone besides myself.”

1954. 22 years old. Balls of pure titanium.

Despite the pseudonym, Dale’s boss did indeed recognize him from the TV program, and he was promptly fired the next day. He wrote into ONE magazine six months later to reassure readers that he had gotten a new job at a higher salary.

Curious about what became of him, I looked into his life a little further. It turns out that he ultimately became a very successful publicity agent. He promoted the Rocky movies and Superman. Not only that, but get this: Dale represented Rock Hudson, and he was the person who convinced him to disclose that he had AIDS! He wrote the statement Rock read. And as we know, Rock Hudson’s disclosure had a very significant effect on the national conversation about AIDS in the U.S.

It appears that no one has made the connection between Dale Olson the publicity agent instrumental in the AIDS debate and Dale Olson the 22-year-old first openly gay man on TV. So I thought I’d make it. For Pride month, an unsung gay hero.

Bedrock is having a mayoral election. One of the candidates is a violent war mongering asshole that riles people up against the lizard people. This reminds Fred and Barney of their time in the army.

Back then the father of said violent candidate was riling people up against the “tree people”. Fred, Barney, and other soldiers fought what they believed to be a defensive measure against the tree people. Turns out, it was actually an invasion, in order to kill off the tree people and take over their forest to build Bedrock.

That’s what Fred means when he says he and Barney participated in a genocide. They literally did.

(Extra fun fact, Barney adopted a tree person baby after the war, and his son Bamm-Bamm is the last tree person.)

Screamed so loudly with such unbridled fury the one time he wasn’t sedated at the vet that he caused a little girl in the waiting room to burst into tears

Snuck into the garage overnight where he managed to pull down his massive food bag from the top shelves, ripped it open and ate so much he couldn’t/wouldn’t move when we found him in the morning

Thankfully cannot open the bedroom door due to rusty mechanisms, but managed to slip in one night when it wasn’t fully closed. Jumped down from my windowsill squarely onto my stomach, leaving me to bolt awake screaming from the blow and convinced I was under attack

After Surgery Diary #6

Yesterday I saw the orthodontist.

He was very happy with the results from the surgery but...

BUT!

... he made me wear elastics on my braces to better close my bite on the sides.

AND I HATE THIS THING!

I hate it like a child hates orthopaedic shoes.

I bought myself nice, expensive shampoo and conditioner. I bought an alarm clock to use a little less my phone, to help me put it far away from my bedside table. I have other new, nice, little things but I am still sour.

Was I the one who said okay to the orthodontist's project for my mouth? Yes. Do I still trust him? Well... The thing is not over yet. If I want a functioning bit after all this physical pain and discomfort I have to take this as well. Soon, he said, my braces could come off.

But I hate it and I need to say it.
