Hey all, I know money is tight for most of us right now but my sister’s friend is going through a really rough time. If anyone could donate to their gofundme (< link) that would be so helpful to them.
AAA video game publisher voice: "Look. The goose layed a golden egg, and that's nice! Everyone loved that egg. But keeping the golden goose means paying for bird feed and I don't want to, so I killed the goose."
#‘that goose keeps laying golden eggs. that’s stagnation. I’m going to kill it and go look for a goose that lays diamond eggs’#‘that goose normally lays golden eggs but this time it laid a silver egg. I’m going to kill it because even though I can still make good#money with that it’s not as good as a golden egg’#‘that golden egg laying goose only lays an egg once a day instead of constantly shitting them out. I don’t care that golden eggs take time#if they’re not constant the goose is worthless to me’
@thebaldursmouthgazette y u leave all the good stuff in the tags
current business education literally teaches you that thinking like this is the ideal and it's messed up, it's chilling, its infecting everything on the planet we do not just games and I fucking hate itttt
we once had a group presentation at a work event where the bigwigs split us into little huddles and told us all about how various aspects of company growth and profits work. The business manager of our tech startup was excitedly pointing to his little flipchart graph line going up and up as he explained diversifying etc. and I (like the little punk artist goblin I am) held up my hand and asked "so when is a good time to stop? when should you switch to keeping the line steady?" and he looked at me with the blankest most innocent face of incomprehension I've ever seen. I don't remember if I even got an answer out of him beyond "you don't???" he was so perplexed by the very idea behind the question
Daryl Cagle, November 23, 2003
Going to add something here as a few people in the notes don't know the significance of the date here, or think this might be a dig at Sesame Street somehow - on November 18th, 2003, there was an absolutely landmark legal case in the state of Massachusetts that ruled that civil unions in that state needed to be given the same rights as marriage. This was HUGE - gay marriage was not legally recognized in any state at the time, and civil unions were the closest you could get. This is a WONDERFULLY hopeful, sweet comic drawn five whole days after an enormous, major step forward for gay marriage POSSIBLY being legal. Massachusetts wouldn't even properly legalize gay marriage until May 2004, and it was the first state to do so.
You can Google Goodridge v Department of Public Health for more details.

Do it scared but please don't do it hungry. Please don't do it dehydrated. It's gonna make it so much scarier. Please.
why is your cat green?
She’s built different 😌
Look i tried to laugh it off, but I haven’t stopped thinking about this message because… my cat literally isn’t green
like where is the green
Oh Christ
This is the color your cat is
colors i eyedropped directly from op's cat
I drew a tree using only colours eyedropped from OP's cat.
every time i see this post all i see is some green alien kitty with antennae so i had to draw it
I originally thought those were supposed to be mushrooms, implying that this cat is moldy
Moldy forest cat
i'm happy y'all made fan art of my cat. i tried to show her and she just rubbed her face on my phone
I'm gonna be homeless soon so I'm reaching out on tumblr as a last ditch effort
If there's anyone in the united states that has an open room (preferably near idaho but anywhere is fine) please reach out to me
I have money and can pay! I just need a room to stay in
I have to move out TODAY, so it's a very time sensitive thing, and I'm very scared
Please, somebody, reach out to me
Yesterday I almost cried because my baby cousin ran up to my grandmother and was like. “Ha! Buhbuh ba ha.” And she said okay you want to show me something? And he led her over to the garden patch and crouched down and pointed at rocks and plants and was like. “Ah. Habah ba ah” as she listened attentively.
And I was like that happened 1,000 years ago. Probably 10,000 years ago. Maybe 100,000. The youngest human in a group went to the oldest one and said to the best of their ability “come see.” And the adult went.
this is such a beautiful post it doesn't need my dumb addition, but i can't fit this in the tags. at the archaeological site Dolni Vestonice in the Czech Republic there are a bunch of really really fascinating finds and I'm only going to tell you about one tiny detail of one of the most interesting sites in the world.
at this settlement 20-30,000 years ago there lived a person who appears to have been a sort of sorcerer-grandmother-ceramics artist and her workshop was preserved very well in the sedimentary layers. her hut where she had her kilns was full of little sculptures of animals and people that seem to have been made to explode in the kiln on purpose, we're not sure why but nevermind. the relevant detail is that when you sculpt something with your hands and then fire it, your fingerprints can be preserved in the surface of the clay forever, so we have fingerprints of ancient ceramics artists that have survived for tens of thousands of years. and one of the major artifacts from Dolni Vestonice has a fingerprint on it that is so small it could only have belonged to a child
so this shaman-grandmother-sculptor, who was buried with her pet fox by the way, had children running through her workshop and touching everything she made while she was at her mysterious work of creating the world's oldest ceramics, none of which appear to be bowls, bottles, pots, or any "useful" items at all, but rather a collection of animal and human and sometimes anthropomorphic figures, some of which appear to be self portraits. exactly the same as sandersstudios' grandmother being led to the garden by an excited baby. we've all been the same for 30,000 years.
Good news! I've been loaned a laptop by a friend of mine after being stuck without an even vaguely passable PC for years due to me being in a state of financial ruin! Which means I can finally stream!
I'll be streaming Pokemon Crystal from around 2PM BST, hope you'll tune in!
delaying this to 3PM
Besides the obvious like having financial security, being able to support your community and take care of friends and family, the whole "money doesn't bring happiness" bullshit is still bullshit because even if we only look at it from "buying frivolous trinkets" point of view, there's so many fun things I'd get myself commissioned just for shits and giggles.
For one, I'd get my dental layout scanned and then use the 3d model of my teeth to commission a giant pair of pincers where the cutters are replaced with a life-sized metal recreation of my teeth. I would use these to press bite marks on all sorts of things that a human being physically could not bite into, and emotionally would not want to.
For no other reason than to fuck with people. Just so they can see a very obviously human bite mark on something and wonder how the fuck did someone bite a goddamn brick wall, and why would anybody do that.
I do feel like 'money can't buy happiness' has a good point somewhere, but it's such a hamfisted way of making it that it's just total crap. Like... okay: if you have a fundamentally joyless outlook on life and can't meaningfully connect to the people and world around you money won't fix it, and rich people can still be unhappy, but that isn't what the damn saying said.
Also, I remember there was a Monk episode where they did that tooth thing with a dog and that was the murder weapon.
"Money can't buy happiness" is false. The truth that it all boils down to is a completely different one:
No amount of money will save you from being a loser.
