Wayne Enterprises buys out a flailing Daily Planet (which is understandably flailing because Perry White refuses to put their online content behind paywalls) and everyone thinks it's some kind of "Catch and Kill" situation because Cat Grant and Trish Q are eviscerating Bruce Wayne on a biweekly basis in the society pages, but Grant and Q's articles continue well after the buyout, to the point where your average Daily Planet reader opens the "Arts and Society" section of their copy of the Daily Planet and goes, "I think Bruce Wayne has a humiliation kink, actually."
Jimmy Olsen is of course getting in on the action with his web content.
Personality Quiz: Are you Lex Luthor's Prada sweats? Or Bruce Wayne's indoor Ray-Bans and single blueberry?

I love it when the same character honorifics are basically used as a barometer for an evolving relationship over the course of a story.
"...Princess" (Derogatory)
"Princess." (You have disproven several of my previous assumptions but I'm still guarded and critical.)
"Princess," (Mildly impressed but still snarky)
"Princess," (I am coming to terms with how much your office has demanded of you and am finally considering you an equal)
"Princess," (I genuinely respect you, your office, and how much you have grown beyond it since we have met.)
"Princess." (Uh oh I've started catching feelings and am now using your title to remind both you and myself of the distance between us.)
"PRINCESS!" (You are in danger and I am now utterly devoted AND DOWN SO BAD.)

You know the Grimm version of Snow White makes more sense than most versions if only because in that version Snow White was like 7 years old.
Like imagine you find a 7 year old in the woods and sheās like my mom is gonna kill me because Iām prettier than her and sheās not kidding. You know this queen is that sort of person. So you and your roommates adopt the kid and tell her donāt talk to strangers. And she keeps talking to strangers and getting poison combs stuck in her hair and whatnot.
Like yeah thatās kinda stupid but also sheās seven. She likes apples.
Also imagine it from the hunterās perspective. The queen tells you this bitch is prettier than me I need you to take her out in the woods and kill her. And then you see who youāre supposed to kill and itās a 2nd grader. Like how are you supposed to react to that sort of situation? Kill a human child? No. Because youāre not a brainless evil minion youāre just some guy dealing with a cartoonishly evil monarch. Of course you let her go.
Bad look for the Prince of course. Even if she did age while she was in that glass case. He saw a dead woman and just decided to keep her. And once she stopped being dead he was like weāre married now
He did cause the evil queen to dance to death in red hot shoes though. That was kinda cool.
With the acknowledgement that I'm grasping at straws, is it ever directly confirmed that the Prince wasn't also 7?
See, I think that still works.
You are the guardsman assigned to protect the eight-year-old Prince. You are currently in the middle of the forest because he absolutely had his heart set on "going hunting", and the royal second-grader should definitely not be traipsing around the woods on his own. You let him go a little on ahead and he comes running back talking about how there's a dead girl in the clearing and there's no-one else around and he wants to take her home because she's really pretty, Hans, and she's all alone!
You let him drag you to said clearing and okay, that is one angelic-looking dead child alright, and on the one hand the quality of her clothes and the craftsmanship on the coffin (who builds a see-through coffin?) speak to potential Consequences if you simply carry her off, but also for the amount of vines that have grown on the coffin she looks extraordinarily un-decayed, so you should probably get the court alchemist's opinion on that, and there's no way he's going to come all the way out here in his embroidered velvet curly-shoes. And also this kid is technically assigned by God as your natural superior, or something.
So fine. You hoist the coffin onto your shoulder (it's not like the Prince can do it. He's eight.) and head back toward the castle, Prince chattering blithely all the way. And then you turn your ankle on a rock and suddenly there's a thump and a cough and a lot of shouting from inside the coffin and you have now become a key player in a tense political incident with the next kingdom over.
You should probably ask for a raise.

things english speakers know, but donāt know we know.
WOAH WHAT?
That is profound. I noticed this by accident when asked about adjectives by a Japanese student. She translated something from Japanese like āBrown big catā and I corrected her. When she asked me why, I bluescreened.
What the fuck, English isnāt even my first language and yet I picked up on that. How the fuck. What the fuck.
Reasoning: It Just Sounds Right
Oooh, donāt like that. Nope, I do not even like that a little bit.Ā Thatās parting the veil and looking at some forbidden fucking knowledge there.
How did I even learn this language wtf
I had to read ābrown big catā like three times before my brain stopped interpreting it as ābig brown catā
Iām kinda reading ābrown big catā as ābrown (big cat)ā, that is, a ābig catā - like a tiger or lion or other felid of similar size - that happens to be brown. āBig brown catā, on the other hand, sounds more like a brown cat thatās just a bit bigger than a regular housecat - like a bobcat or a maine coon cat or something like that.
yeah, a brown big cat is almost certainly a puma. a big brown cat is probably a maine coon.
yeah, if you put the adjectives out of order you wind up implying a compound noun, which is presumably why we have this rule; we stripped out so much inflection over the centuries word order now dictates a huge amount of our grammar
Just looked up why we do this and one of the first lines in this article is, āAdjectives are where the elves of language both cheat and illumine reality.ā so I know itās a good article.
Things this article has taught me:
This same order of adjectives more or less applies to languages around the world.Ā āItās possible that these elements of universal grammar clarify our thought in some way,ā says Barbara Partee, a professor emeritus of linguistics and philosophy at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Yet when the human race tacitly decided that shape words go before color words go before origin words, it left no record of its rationale.
One theory is that the more specific term always falls closer to the noun. But that doesnāt explain everything in adjective order.
Another theory is that as you get closer to the noun, you encounter adjectives that denote more innate properties. In general, nouns pick out the type of thing weāre talking about, and adjectives describe it,ā Partee told me. She observes that the modifiers most likely to sit right next to nouns are the ones most inclined to serve as nouns in different contexts: Rubber duck. Stone wall.
Rules are made to be broken. Switching up the order of adjectives allows you to redistribute emphasis. (If you wish to buy the black small purse, not the gray one, for instance, you can communicate your priorities by placing color before size).Ā Scrambling the order of adjectives also helps authors achieve a sense of spontaneity, of improvising as they go. Wolfe discovers such a rhythm, a feeling-his-way quality, when he discusses his childhood recollection of ābrown tired autumn earthā and a āflat moist plug of apple tobacco.ā
Brain scans have discovered that your brain has to work harder to read adjectives in theĀ āwrongā order.
TL;DR: No one knows why we do this adjective thing but itās pretty hardwired in.
@deadcatwithaflamethrower Linguistics tidbit.
The compound noun thing, yeah. I just the other day read a post by a frustrated German (?) speaker complaining about how English does ālight bulbā instead of ālightbulbā and itās confusing. Which, itās confusing because what is a very obvious compound noun in German when itās all one word is a not-so-obvious compound noun in English, where the adjective-noun combination is treated the same as many compound nouns.
āBig catā is such a compound noun; it is the noun phrase that refers to the larger species of cats, distinct from the house cats that ācatā itself generally, but not exclusively, refers to. Big cats are cats, but they are also big cats, as a category; your gigantic Maine Coon can be a big cat (adjective-noun phrase), but not a big cat (compound noun), and there isnāt an obvious distinction besides context.
Thus ābig brown catā means a large domestic cat and ābrown big catā means thereās a puma in the back yard, and the word order attains an understated level of significance as applied to meaning.
sherlock holmes deduces you are trans before you've figured it out yourself and refers to you with those pronouns and then when you look confused is like "ah...had you not arrived at that conclusion yet?" and wafts away in his dressing gown to smoke seventeen pipes, leaving you in a gender crisis
Hercule Poirot deduces you are trans by accident because he suspected you of murder and broke into your house and searched your stuff then puts 2 and 2 together when Hastings makes an innocuous observation about your fashion sense or something and he jumps up and cries āmon dieu!!!ā before striding over to you kissing you on both cheeks and saying āah, cher ami, you must live as you choose!ā and then running off to confront the real culprit while you stand there in befuddlement
Columbo deduces you're trans from context clues while he's talking to you about the area, immediately uses your preferred pronouns and starts telling you about his cousin, who's also transgender, and how they got this job doing security, and how they told him that a security guard always locks up, and asks you if the guard locked up last night, and isn't it weird the place was open? And you're like, well, someone else must have opened it up. Maybe the guy in charge? He has a spare key. And then he nods and goes "the guy in charge has a spare key... well, how about that?" And then he offers you a cigar and wanders off, and a day later your boss gets arrested for murder.
Fanon Batman deduces you are trans and suddenly a free hormone clinic opens up by your home a couple months later
Miss Fisher learns youre trans and simply gives you hormones, and a little cocaine as a treat. she also invites you out to a club to meet like minded individuals. at the club you watch as she seduces the bartender and then the next day the bartender is arrested for the murder.

This is the best description Iāve heard for this method, I always thought it was bullshit because I never heard a description that actually explained how to do this other than ātap your head 20 timesā.
I have anxiety-induced hissing, which sounds/feels different from sound-induced tinnitus (which I have also experience). Sound-based tinnitus actually sounds like youāre āhearingā something in your ears, whilst the hissing I have feels like itās āinside my headā, if that makes sense. But this technique still helps!!
Hereās a visual I found because I couldnāt understand the instructions well
My ringing just went away for the first time in years. What is this blissful quiet.
wait wait i gotta try this, i donāt think iāve had Actual Silence since i was like 5
HOW THE FUCK
Reblogging to save a life, and also because, even if you donāt have tinnitus, this is totally worth trying if you like new sensory experiences.Ā Ā
Just showed this to my dad, and in his words, āThe cicadas are still there, but the train is gone.ā
Fuck Iām at a fencing tournament and literally a minute after I reblogged this my dad told me that he talked to the point people and Iām probably going to win a medal.

I need to follow up to say I reblogged this last night, and this morning I got some of the best news of my life, like, a life dream come true news thing.
Bagel what are your powers
FUCK, I though it was just another lucky meme but LISTEN. Since a week ago I was waiting a phone call to confirm me if I got a job or not in my university. I reblogged this yesterdayās night ājust for fun and because I donāt want any bagel to be mad with meā, and todayās afternoon, while I was losing my time as always, the professor I was supposed to work with called me and asked me for my personal information to start working with her.
THE BAGEL POWERS ARE WAY TOO MUCH FOR THIS WORLD
I GOT A JOB THE DAY AFTER MY QUEUE POSTED THIS THE FIRST TIME AND I JUST REALIZED IT WHEN I SAW IT AGAIN HOLY GOD
