the fact will was the most romantic member of the party and he was the only one without a love story is my villain origin story
i wish stranger things actually treated their main characters as their main characters
so now they believe in parallels lol
Hereâs the thing, Elâs death/disappearance worked in season 1. She always functioned as a kind of enigma, a manifestation of all of Mikeâs fears but also fierce sense of loyalty and love. She was a connection Mike needed to make and then let go of in order to âcome of ageâ.
But once they brought El back in S2, she no longer was only there to serve Mikeâs character development. She was fleshed out! A character with her own needs and wants. She started getting an arc of discovering herself outside of all the abusive male figures in her life. She started to gain true agency.
And thatâs why Elâs death/disappearance no longer works in S5. The characters have grown past the point where that type of ending works. El is no longer a manifestation of Mikeâs childhood. She is her own character, and to reduce her back to that role is just SO insulting and misogynistic.
TLDR: El was pushed back into a manic pixie dream girl role to fulfill the Duffer brothers fantasy self insert dream
noah mentioning that lonnie was abusive when on the press tour despite lonnie not being mentioned once in s5 really shows how much better noah understood and cared about will than the duffers did.
I saw a tweet saying that the finale felt like listening to âwe are charlie kirkâ for 2 hours and 8 minutes and Iâm fucking DECEASED
You can end the cycle El! You donât have to kill yourself to release yourself from the trauma of abuse!
Kills herself
Look for these signals! Complete these steps! You can love yourself AND be loved! Youâre not âdifferentâ and you WILL fall in love!
Literally nothing happens
they couldnât go with the whole henry creel tfs backstory because that would make the creelby/byler parallels obvious in the show and can only lead to byler happening
couldnât acknowledge the painting lie because that would confirm that mike was never in love with eleven, he was in love with willâs feelings and mike and eleven never understood each other like mike and will did
and couldnât keep mike and willâs closeness from other seasons even as best friends because it was never just platonic
why are we told to pay attention and notice details when the writers canât even get their main characters age when he went missing right after forgetting his birthday the last season đ«©
s5 mike was like 4 different versions of him
1. leader again, very caring with will, didnt rlly gaf ab el
2. just stood in the corner and served no purpose, dgaf ab will or el, cant touch will
3. suddenly cared sm ab el and his character was just ab that, weird with the friends no way best friends line and they basically made care mike ab his gf again so the mlvn goodbye scene can have any emotinal value
4. ted wheeler copypasta, cringy and weird, not rlly him self, stuck in his childhood
vol 1 mike was peak đ
the fact that weâre never gonna see the scene in s1 where mike is biking home and crying after finding out will is dead
and while we're on the topic i really hate how much the female characters in this show were called a bitch. thomas calls 9 year old holly a bitch, henry calls 13 year old tina a bitch, even hopper calls kali a bitch!! the female characters in this are so underdeveloped but they love to throw that word around with so much malice
I really just miss the simplicity of s1 I think. I miss when Hawkins really did feel like a close-knit town, I miss when characters weren't all over the place, and there was just some type of grain in the film, even if it was filmed in 2015. I also miss the character building. Jim was a divorced alcoholic. Jonathan was a 'creep' and had a rough upbringing. Nancy was your typical popular, pretty schoolgirl, but she was in love with the so-called creep and could handle a gun. And Joyce was just a single mother, being driven to the brink of insanity. I just feel like nowadays, there's no time for character development, or no thought put behind it at all.
I really miss when stranger things did feel like an eighties, small town, cop sci-fi thriller with horror elements. Now it just feels like a long, drawn out season of some shitty marvel cash grab show.
gonna do some stranger things top 3

and if i said the duffers exploited noah and wills queerness..
say it louder for the people in the back
round of applause to jamie campbell bower and noah schnapp for carrying this finale i love you both mwah
i'm going to be sick. "i started bringing it up again and they told me "noah shut up. it was one. it was one time."" that's them having to be begged for the queer character's storyline to have closure. then noah, someone that's actually from the queer community you should at least pretend to want to represent correctly, tells you it's still not right, not enough, and you shut him up because you allowed it one time already.
the way that he was genuinely confused about what happened here
I hope he gets to do more queer projects with actual queer casts / writers / directors and that if he gets another gay role it's so well written and he actually gets the guy he wants and everyone shits on how awfully written parts of his arc were in ST and how easily they could've pulled off byler
