a crude summary of one of my favorite musicals

materially the issue here is that she wrote a series of books that specifically incorporate negative aspects of hockey culture as a point of criticism because hockey culture can be extremely harmful and should be criticised. they started out as indie romance sure but even if they weren’t now bestselling tradpub books with a peabody award winning tv adaptation it is still not a big ask to reflect on how race is depicted, especially when she seems to accidentally incorporate the same issues she herself is attempting to interrogate. u can’t have it both ways. they can’t be sappy romance books that can’t be criticised and a groundbreaking piece of queer media. sorry. at the very least when people criticise her use of racist and/or ableist language it’d be nice if she could actually acknowledge the issues instead of being sassy on instagram
