Today I share with you bronze rats from the Meiji period.
Finally bought some dye and have been having so much fun with optical color mixing. I decided to start with cmyk primaries to get some vibrant color options.
So far I've only mixed up the main batch of colors, but I'll split them up and create a palatte of tints and shades once I have access to a scale again.
I don't have any fancy tools and have been blending the fiber by hand, so it's probably best I have a forced break for the sake of my fingers. Once I'm done I should have a very useful set of 57 2g swatches to play with! (Plus 5 more for a set of grayscale swatches)
If I'm still up for it, I might repeat the whole thing with my classic red, yellow, blue primary dye set. For a truly massive set of heather swatches.
I'll create a comprehensive guide to all the color mixes and my process once I'm done, but in the meantime here's a mixing guide for the colors I've already done!
The ratios are presented in the same order as the wool swatches in the photo above it. I didn't simplify any of the ratios so you'll have to deal with 2:2s instead of 1:1s, oops.
For anyone curious, I used brilliant yellow, deep magenta, and caribbean blue from Dharma dyes on their corriedale wool for my base colors.
if you dont decouple your drive to create from your desire for attention you will go insane. simple as. you will never feel satisfied b/c you will always want more and you will feel perpetually bitter that you did not get what you are “owed”
It’s an unpopular opinion but it is absolutely and completely true. I’ve never seen someone who creates for engagement happy with the engagement they get. I posit they can’t ever be happy that way because it will NEVER be enough
I agree with OP and Manka so very much.
You have to rest in your own desire to create.
But, because I see statements like this turn into a sort of general notion of “it’s bad to want validation or attention or engagement”, and to me, that’s not what this means.
It’s perfectly valid to want people to like and engage with what you create. In a general sense, when you create anything, you do it to share with other human beings. Art, craft, food, anything you create is a way to connect with others through our shared humanity.
And wanting someone to like you fanart or read your fanfic is part of that.
the words used by OP is decouple, and this is important. Nothing wrong wanting engagement. But it cannot be tightly coupled with the drive to create.
I referred to something as a "real Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra moment" in conversation with someone who has never seen TNG, and let me tell you, that was a real Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra moment
not aromantic but I believe in their beliefs.
"there's no platonic explanation for this" try harder bucko
love is a beautiful wonderful multifaceted nebulous thing that shouldn't be reduced to the strict bounds of Tier One: Romance and Tier Two: Friends. get weird with it. love your friends deeply, wildly, passionately and platonically. cowards

remember when websites were written on purpose, and not generated by autocomplete in the instant you run the web search? anyway, unrelated, this webpage purporting to relay expert knowledge on which plants are safe for my snake's tank just told me I would know if he was biting them and getting irritated because he would start pawing at his mouth.
i mean, that sure would be a sign something was wrong

how does one pronounce ke/kem pronouns? i've been pronouncing it with ke (sounds like key) kes (rhyms with tess, hard k) kem (rhymes with them, hard k)
I made them up, they have no history, so you can pronounce them however you want. But the pronunciation I chose was picked to not be more similar to 'he' than 'she' or vice versa. (I spent some earlier years discussing various nonbinary pronouns sets and this was always an ongoing concern with many sets feeling more masculine or feminine for this reason, which is undesireable. If you use anything other than 'he' or 'she' then people will do absolutely anything they can to put you in one of those two boxes and most people don't want to give them any extra encouragement. I did not want to give any impression that brennans were "like man but special" or "like woman but special", and if you do anything to indicate even the slightest more similarity to one than the other, that's what people do with it.) So I designed them to be:
"ke" like "he" or "she" (which does indeed sound like "key")
"kes" like "keys" ("ke's", belonging to ke, except of course that we don't use possessive apostrophes in third person pronouns)
"kem" like "them"
Being a nonbinary person who just finished reading ttou, I'm very interested in brennan gender. I have a million questions about it, which I won't bother you with, but would like to know one thing.
How are the brennan pronouns pronounced? (in English, not Interlingua, of course) I read with an inner voice, but would always get tripped up on the pronouns because I'm not sure how they're pronounced.
I couldn't find info online for their pronunciation, but I'm new to the fandom, so I could've missed it.
These are my guesses-
ke: kay or key (probably key because it rhymes with both "she" and "he")
kes: like keys? or more rhyming with "his"?
kem: keem seems silly, so it's probably a "them" or "him" rhyme. like the "chem" in "chemistry"
kemself: like above, I'd guess 'chem'-self over 'keem'-self
After thinking it over, I'm going with key, kiz ("kiss" with a z), chem, chemself.
Thanks!
That's pretty close to how I pronounce them

If you're a writer you're supposed to write a lot of bullshit. It's part of the gig. You have to write a lot of absolute garbage in order to get to the good bits. Every once in a while you'll be like "Oh, I wish I hadn't wasted all that time writing bullshit," but that's dumb. That's exactly the same as an Olympic runner being like "Oh, I wish I hadn't wasted all that time running all those practice laps"
So Morrowind has these messages that pop up when you level up that aren't just like "wow you're so epic" but actually kind of relevant to like aging and growing as a person. My favorite one, that feels really relevant (couldn't find a screenshot): "It's all suddenly obvious to you. You just have to concentrate. All the energy and time you've wasted -- it's a sin. But without the experience you've gained, taking risks, taking responsibility for failure, how could you have understood?" Like yeah, it feels like I've wasted a lot of time on projects that may never be finished, or pursuits that I ultimately decided weren't for me. But I've learned so much just by engaging with the process of creating, I wouldn't be the same if I hadn't.
in 2026 DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD
instead ask:
is it SINCERE
was it CATHARTIC
was it FUN TO MAKE
is it MADE BY ME
and don't forget to stay silly
can't leave that in the notes 😂
