Susana Trimarco disguised herself as madam and walked into brothels across northern Argentina, searching for her missing daughter among women trapped in sexual slavery and in the process, she sparked a movement that would free over 3,000 sex trafficking victims. It began in April 2002, when her 23-year-old daughter, María de los Ángeles Verón, left for a doctor's appointment in their city of San Miguel de Tucumán and never returned home. Frustrated by a police investigation she believed was deliberately sabotaged by corruption, Trimarco obtained the names of known pimps and sex traffickers from police files and launched her own search. She posed as a buyer interested in purchasing the captive women and girls - some as young as 14, who could be traded for about $800. One rape victim told her she had seen María drugged, with swollen eyes, in a trafficker's home that doubled as a holding place for newly abducted women. But by the time Trimarco could follow the lead, her daughter had been moved. Though María was never found, Trimarco's relentless pursuit transformed her into one of Argentina's most powerful human rights activists and forced sex trafficking onto national agenda. "The desperation of a mother blinds you," she says. "It makes you fearless." Through this dangerous work, Trimarco discovered the full scope of sex trafficking and corruption within the police and judiciary that kept women trapped in forced prostitution. "The police would hand [the trafficked women] back to the criminals," she recalls. "They used to say: 'Don't leave me. Take me with you.'" Trimarco ended up becoming the personal guardian to 129 survivors of sex trafficking, sheltering them in her home and helping them reunite with their families. Trimarco's relentless advocacy forced change at highest levels. Her work helped lead to first law, passed in 2008, making human trafficking a federal crime; the subsequent reforms have led to thousands of people being rescued from sex traffickers. These successes, however, have come with high personal cost to Trimarco: she has suffered many reprisals over the years including countless death threats, having her house set on fire, and several attempts to run her over in street. As more trafficking survivors and families of trafficking victims reached out to her for help, Trimarco says, "It came to a point where I just did not have capacity to help them all. That is when I decided to open a foundation." In 2007, she founded Fundación María de los Ángeles, a non-governmental organization focused on helping people escape from trafficking and lobbying for legislation to prevent it. Her efforts focused on her daughter's disappearance eventually resulted in trials for 13 people, including several police officers, in 2012; all 13 were acquitted, a ruling that prompted outrage by many and led to impeachment proceedings against three judges. In December 2013, Tucumán Supreme Court reversed acquittals and convicted ten of defendants, who received sentences ranging from 10 to 22 years in April 2014. But despite it all, Trimarco still hasn't found out what she wants to know most: what happened to her daughter. Some witnesses say she was murdered - although her body has never been found and others say she was taken overseas. Twenty-three years later, Trimarco's work continues in her daughter's name and for all survivors. Her foundation remains at the forefront of the country's fight against human trafficking, recently helping to dismantle trafficking rings in 2024 and 2025. In recent years, the foundation has expanded its role as a legal plaintiff in trafficking cases, ensuring survivors have representation throughout the judicial process. Now in her seventies, Trimarco remains internationally recognized for her work, though her search for answers about María's fate has never ceased. "Every woman I help somehow helps María," she reflects. "They represent hope in this new life of mine."
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.
It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

fandoms act like pedophiles don’t watch tv, read books, or use the internet. “fiction vs reality” all you want but predators consume content that aligns with their interests. real, actual predators ship adults with minors, possess child porn of both real kids and fictional ones, read stories that show csa in a positive light, etc.
like I can see a predator watching how y'all justify minor / adult ships and feeling validated. they don’t just enact violence outside of the internet. they are real people who consume media just like you and me. those of you who ship children with adults share a space with actual predators
it’s also wild to me that y'all don’t think a pedophile could ever be an artist or writer. I guarantee you they are content creators you enjoy on social media. you’re giving them a space to safely express their interests and you validate their inclination to hurt real children when you promote “hebephilia” as healthy. every time you say “the technical definition of pedophilia is 13 years old and younger”, some adult freak feels better about being attracted to a 14 year old. saved by the bell huh!
you’re harboring actual predators, making them feel great about themselves, giving them a platform in fandom & the ability to harass minors into silence with that platform. it isn’t just desensitizing kids, it’s also desensitizing predators
just like white people felt justified in thinking of black people as all sorts of stereotypes (monkeys, mammies, pickanninies, unintelligent, biologically predisposed to being enslaved, etc) thanks to racist cartoons, justifying pedophilia in fiction is a gateway to them excusing harmful behavior in real life and actually doing it. if that should bother you
76% of people arrested for child porn (cp) which legally includes simulated cp (that’s digitally drawn art,or CGI), have molested actual children. in the late 20th century cp had almost been completely wiped out, but the creation of the internet caused a resurgence and now it’s uncontrollable. but people think enjoying these things in internet fandom are unrelated phenomenon
y'all really surround yourself with people who spend hours drawing cp, writing about it, making headcanons for it, creating communities & organizing celebration weeks for it, discussing it on social media and skype, but then you’re surprised when people who spend their days indulging in the fantasy of adults fucking children… are outed as adults who fuck children. like

thanks for the sources! I didn’t have enough spoons to look it up
there are some really vile people trying to interact with this post, claiming that “fiction and reality are two different things.” i’d like to add a source that suggests that the brain is more susceptible to thoughts vs. actions than we think it is, and i hope OP finds it as important as i do.
this is an article about Alvaro Pascual-Leone’s neurology study at Harvard Medical. it’s actually almost a decade old at this point. in this study, he had a group play a simple piano exercise for one week, and he had another group only imagine playing the piano exercise for one week. in group one - the piano-practicing group - a new network of neurons blossomed in the brain to accompany the repetitive motion practiced on the piano. in the group that only imagined playing, the same thing happened.
the brain can and does form new neural connections when you only imagine something, even if you take no action. it doesn’t mean that everyone who’s ever had a bad thought is now a criminal, but this is a legitimate study that suggests that a concentrated, sustained effort – like a hobby, or writing, or shipping – results in real, measurable structural changes in your brain. you shouldn’t even need a study like this to prove “you resemble what you surround yourself with,” but here it is.
as a survivor of CSA, i am 100% not okay with anyone engaging with this topic in their leisure time*, and i think that “shipping” is the lamest excuse i’ve ever fucking heard to engage in real, damaging behavior. an abuse survivor who ships “because they’re traumatized” doesn’t get a pass, nor should they consume or create this content. i hate it when this gets brought up because it’s victim-blaming, using severely mentally ill people you don’t even care about as props, and describes a tragic method by which a victim grows into a perpetrator.
nobody’s fucking shippy feels or orgasm is above scrutiny and condemnation, nor are these things above the well-being of other people.
-
*telling people to knock it off is not leisure time, trust me. i’m speaking about people who enjoy their interactions around child abuse.
Something to add:
Real pedophiles use nsfw art of minors to groom children in real life. They use the art and fanfic and shit you write to say “Hey look this character that is your age is doing this, so it’s okay!” They legit do this. I’ve had real life actual victims tell me they do this.
You’re not just making them feel valid. You’re making tools for them to do their sick bullshit to others.
I wanted to add: if you’re a minor and you have the desire to make sexual content of fictional minors, that doesn’t make you a bad person.
Because it’s natural to want to explore your sexuality with people of the same age.
BUT for all the above reasons, keep it private. That’s why journals and sketchbooks exist. Draw and write that stuff to your hearts content (if you’re a minor, pedos can burn), but don’t post it.
Also, again if you’re a minor, it’s ok to think people your age are attractive, and it’s ok to think older people are attractive. But you should definitely be critical of what you “ship” and what dynamics you fantasize about in your spare time; obsessing over unhealthy dynamics, like shipping adults with minors, can impact your attitude and your mental health even if you swear up and down “I wouldn’t support that in real life”.
I felt the need to add this because when I was a teen in fandom spaces I definitely viewed this topic much differently that I do now that I’m 21.
incredible stuff happening out there

Something about the word consent in feminist and liberal lingo has always bothered me. 'Enthusiastic consent' 'Consent is key' 'consent is sexyy' 'Don't post nudes of women on the internet without her consent' 'never put your hands on a woman without her consent', or conversations around the importance of consent in surrogacy, sex work, bdsm, everything. Then it kind of clicked, because consenting to things in these scenarios is a relatively passive action. It is soo one sided. Consent implies that there is one who proposes and one who accepts. Consent is defined as something that 'occurs when one person voluntarily agrees to the proposal or desires of another.'
She can consent, even enthusiastically, say yes or no, like a binary code, but she did not design, propose, initiate or orchestrate it, nor can she fully control the outcome in the society she lives in. And this is true on a mass scale. When have you ever heard of sex being described as men consenting to a woman's sexual advances? Or discussions that you shouldn't upload men's explicit pictures without their consent?
Male consent is not considered an important factor because their desires are assumed inevitable, like a force of nature, a neutral, unquestioned starting point, and women can only exist relative to that, to either accept or deny. They can't have active desires of their own. Men are considered actors fundamentally and women are the ones acted upon.
Of course consent is important and essential, but would consent in these scenarios be all that much better than non consent given the coercive society we live in? Consent is a poor ethical framework if taken alone. Consent itself in these scenarios can never be ethical because the premise itself is unequal, as are social interpretations and outcomes, and no amount of agreement will change that.
And once again you’ve read my mind and put it to words perfectly.
This is exactly what I mean when I say “consent” is just the modern equivalent of “submit.”
I also just hate the colloquial meaning of it
No one says you consent to go on vacation, you consent to go to the beach, you consent to go to a restaurant.... Consent is only really used for things in legal spaces, or like something you don't really want but agree to as a trade. Like you consent to surgery so you can feel better, not because you love being cut open. You consent to a drug test so you can get hired, not because you just love having blood drawn. "Consent" is almost always used to refer to something you begrudgingly agree to do in return for a benefit of some kind.... And sex.
But if it's something actually fun, you don't say you consent to it. You don't consent to go to a concert, you either want to go or don't. You don't consent to going to a sleepover with your friend, you either want to or don't. No one says "I consented to enter this bouncy castle at my birthday party!"
Consent as a concept frames sex through the framework of what men can get away with "ethically" (legally), rather than through what women actually WANT.
You can really only consent to something being done to you, by nature giving consent is a passive receptive action
Even if consent is the cornerstone of what we consider to be socially necessary for intercourse to be sex and not rape, it’s still a very low bar that leaves half of all participants little more than passive objects being acted upon
Like @musingunderstarlight said, replace it with words implying submission and obedience and the meaning doesn’t even really change
“she consented” might as well be “she obeyed me” or “she did what I wanted”
No, actually, i want cables and not bluetooth, i don't want touchscreens, i want buttons and knobs, i want to be able to take the battery out of my phone, i want to charge my phone and plug in head phones at the same time, i want a cd drive in my laptop and not have to buy an external drive, i want a car without a display, i want to turn on the lights with a switch not with my voice, i want to have a paper cinema ticket not a QR code, i want to listen to illegally burned music on a 00s cd player, i want to watch movies that i actually own, i want to read news once a day on paper, i want to aimlessly flick through magazines and not doomscroll on social media, i want to write emails and not talk to chatbots, i want to own stuff without hundreds of digital subscriptions, i want
women cannot and should not risk it, not even once or twice. its truly terrifying
somehow missed this but omg, these teenage/early-20s young women, strangled ONCE A WEEK??

the girl who is comfy in bed yearns to be On The Computer. The girl who is On The Computer yearns to be comfy in bed. Thus does desire become the root of all suffering
an under-appreciated view.
This rare manuscript is a Coptic magical text known as the Spell to Acquire a Beautiful Voice, dating to the 6th–7th century CE in Egypt.
Written in ink on papyrus, it reflects a period when words were believed to hold real supernatural power. Texts like this blended religious language, ritual instructions, and symbolic formulas intended to influence the physical world.
In late antique society, spirituality was not separate from daily life — it shaped health, speech, protection, and fortune. Writing was not only a tool for recording knowledge, but a medium believed capable of transforming reality itself.
Today preserved at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the manuscript survives as a striking reminder that in the ancient world, ink could carry both meaning and magic.
what drives me insane about male vs female jobs is that the latter are set up to never end and to leave no sign. male housework is either a. a thing you get a professional to do for you once per decade or b. a thing that you do once in a fortnight and get to brag about while you point fingers at it. female jobs simply never end. there's never clean enough, especially not in the house where you are the only cleaner and where nobody else considers picking up after themselves. there's never enough food, no matter how much you toil in the kitchen, because, inevitably, the food will be eaten and you you'll be back to making a new batch. there's never no laundry, because, aside from regular, habitual cleaning, there's also accident-related one. don't get me started on children. there's never an end to it, with children. obviously. except, although it's both parents having a child, the mother is the one who is emptying the potties and washing the asses and brushing teeth and putting to bed. and yet, when you bring this up as a woman, there is always a simple, wonderful response: i have done MY job. you do yours.
