The bill follows Quebec’s announcement during last year’s COP 26 climate summit that it would join the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA), part of a list of a dozen jurisdictions that did not include Canada, the United States, or the United Kingdom.

In what campaigners are calling a world first, Quebec’s National Assembly voted Tuesday afternoon to ban new oil and gas exploration and shut down existing drill sites within three years, even as the promoters behind the failed Énergie Saguenay liquefied natural gas (LNG) project try to revive it as a response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“By becoming the first state to ban oil and gas development on its territory, Quebec is paving the way for other states around the world and encouraging them to do the same,” Montreal-based Équiterre said in a release.

“However, it is important that the political will that made this law possible be translated into greenhouse gas reductions in the province, since Quebec and Canada have done too little to reduce their GHGs over the past 30 years.”

Yes, he’s called the “antichrist” because he’s an imposter Jesus and the majority of the world will love him when he ends all class divides and erases all borders, creating one world government with him at the top. That’s the “new world order” they’re terrified of. But they think he’ll oppress true Christian believers who see through his ruse, which is why they’re constantly looking for signs that they’re being discriminated against and panic when they lose any control over government. This is why they fear diversity, immigration, socialized anything. The less religious right are pretty clearly still running on the same logic; they might drop some of the spiritual lore but this is where they get the idea that all progressivism leads to the “real” fascism. Some believe the antichrist isn’t a literal person either but just that entire set of beliefs, so everyone protesting against war and trying to feed the hungry is a *collective* antichrist.

So from the notes it turns out people are MUCH less familiar with all this than I suspected and that’s honestly kind of alarming, guys, you should really really pay attention to things that affect so much of this country. No these are absolutely not obscure or fringe beliefs, these are MAINSTREAM with megachurches, Trump voters, the GOP and a vast proportion of the wealthy. Alex Jones and multiple Fox News hosts openly believe word for word what I described here.

And yeah as several people pointed out it isn’t even explicitly in the bible, but something some radicals pieced together in maybe only the last century. My uncles all believe it to the letter and they all believe it’s what the Bible is “supposed” to be communicating.

A lot of people are also confused as to why they would believe the peace and unity are villainous things and what the difference even is then between the “antichrist” and actual Jesus, which brings me to another thing I realize some folks CRITICALLY overlook about American Christianity, which is that they do not believe in good or bad deeds. They believe the same deed can be right or wrong strictly according to whether or not it’s performed by a believer with God’s stamp of approval. Like, they KNOW the Satanic Church and Witch Covens do community service or donate to cancer research and they are not confused, surprised, bitter or embarrassed by that at all. It’s exactly what they’re taught to expect. They believe the forces of Satan do primarily “good” things so people will think he’s just as good or better than God. So if a pastor heals a sick child with a prayer then that’s good, but if a “witch” heals the same sick child with “magic” (not something I believe exists, but they do) then that’s a false miracle from the devil and the child was better off dying because now everyone involved is a sinner who deserves hell. They’re taught to view you as a ridiculous fool if you don’t grasp this difference, and every single argument you might make is a part of the satanic trickery.

After all, they think our entire existence on this Earth is an insignificant speck in the grand scheme of things. The suffering in the world isn’t a bug to them, but a feature that God set up to test everyone’s worthiness, teach them lessons and filter out the faithless, so they actively do not believe it’s always morally right in itself to help people or save lives. Rather, certain people are just intended to suffer and die and it can be MORE wrong to help them.

Sorry to put this big ass thing on your dashboards again but I’m downright awestruck by the notes. There’s 15,500 of them at the time of this reblog and almost zero disagreement, just hundreds of people expressing absolute terror that they didn’t realize they were living under the thumb of a doomsday cult, and I’m really really sorry for that because I really did not expect to be the bearer of that news to so many. I actually wasn’t raised religious AT ALL, and it was still impossible for me to not hear this shit constantly in the 80′s and 90′s from basically everyone outside my immediate family. It’d even crop up on television and radio stations that weren’t even supposed to be christian-oriented. Just boom, there’s an evangelist suddenly talking about how Only God is Allowed to End War and Satan Takes the Form of Kindness, like these were just normal banal perspectives to toss in between a relationship advice segment and the latest movie reviews. I’m really proud of every person saying they escaped from that indoctrination and actually feel much better and more hopeful about the whole thing. It might not be fixed completely in our lifetimes but clearly it is fixable.

I’m just going to answer this question and I’m out.

The disrespect that I’m alluding to has a lot of elements. First, Peter Benjamin Parker is Jewish. Every version of Peter Parker is Jewish. He is a kid who grew up in a predominantly Jewish ghetto turned suburb in Queens New York. Disney erased all of that to make him trendy and “more relatable.” And it’s no coincidence since they did the same to Pietro and Wanda who are Romani and Jewish.

Second Peter Parker and Aunt May are poor. Peter Parker had to work in high school to help support his family. Aunt May was living off Uncle Ben’s life insurance and was in retirement prior to his death. She had to come out of retirement and find work. And this is the kicker, Peter Parker and Aunt May abhorred the rich. Most of Peter’s rogues are working class career criminals but his major ones like Norman Osborn, Kingpin, And Doc Ock, corporate execs or corporate backed scientists who saw profit or progress over humanity and decency. They were greed and avarice personified. You know...like Tony Stark, the hero that Peter idolized....

And finally and most importantly, Peter Parker is an independent hero. Spider-Man is about independence. Peter was a bullied misanthropic shy Jewish white kid who if he weren’t bitten would have let that repressed anger consume him. He became the most selfless sometimes overly so because he refused to take community responsibility and stop a robber because the person being robbed wronged him personally. And his Uncle Ben, god bless his kind and also Jewish heart, died instilling Into Peter as his last words to his nephew and adoptive son values of community and humanity. Power and responsibility. Jewish values that Peter grew from and inspired little kids like Miles Morales to understand himself.

And like I understand the American Jewish community has done so much to fight for the rights of other minorities in this country and created a medium that my black bi ass enjoys about being a hero and what that actually means.

Peter Benjamin Parker never needed to revere anyone. He is a hero that all others look up to in the same vein as Superman. A hero that we can be and at the same time understand what it is like. Peter Parker didn’t look up an Iron Man who was war mongering and didn’t take responsibility for his actions nor never experienced consequences until he was forced to and even then he blamed other people.

Spider-Man is not a prop for Iron Man.

Alright, okay I for one am tired of people using this often quoted scene from Civil War about Peter dumpster diving for supplies. Do you see Peter doing that in his movie? No. Show, don’t tell. They changed course in the direction of his character after Civil War. Not to mention he no longer resides in a Queens neighborhood but an apartment filled with IKEA furniture(because MCU doesn’t understand anything else but wealth) and goes to a charter school, advanced placement school or a magnet school that assumes Peter is no longer poor. Fact of the matter is that Peter’s main social struggle is classism which is something that the movies chose not to display in spite of using behaviors that a person strapped for cash wouldn’t do(leaving his backpack stranded and surprised that it is stolen when he comes back). Homecoming and subsequently Far From Home took Peter Parker out of the working class.

And no, when they were starting Amazing Spider-Man, Peter was Jewish without stating he is Jewish for fear of alienation and condemnation. Around the 60s a lot of Jewish immigrants came in and were wrestling with assimilation which is where a lot of the animosity between Peter and his early high school classmates stemmed from: anti-semitism. So they opted to infuse lesser known Jewish stereotypes to code Peter as Jewish. So no he wasn’t wearing a Star of David or anything but it was subtle things like ‘Aunt May using Jewish Guilt to make Peter feel bad about not helping his Aunt.’ They did this with Ben Grimm and Bruce Banner as well. So early Spider-Man was Jewish. It wasn’t until later where other non-Jewish writers began inserting Peter into Christianity or Protestant belief or atheism because it was a safer option. However, Brian Michael Bendis, writer of Ultimate Spider-Man and very good friend of Stan Lee prior to his death, was interviewed as to why he wrote Peter Parker speaking Yiddish and he was uncharacteristically frank: “Because he is Jewish. All versions of Peter Parker are Jewish.” Later on Bendis goes on to explain while comparing and contrasting Miles Morales, that Peter is not too accepting of Judaism or is properly assimilated into whiteness. He denies it or is uncertain of his culture vs Miles Morales who loves rap music, sprays graffiti, and has the Puerto Rican flag plastered on his backback. Point is that given that two Slovakian New York Jewish immigrants created Peter Parker to mirror their own life experiences, it can be assumed that the life being mirrored is a Jewish one.

I’m going to tag @traincat again to not elaborate but as a few literary resources that back the idea that Peter is Jewish or a Jew in Denial.

And about Peter’s internship in the Civil War comics, I understand that people don’t hold up comic books to the same literary standard as door stoppers or novels but what you just did was the equivalent of reading the Great Gatsby’s introduction of the titular character and saying that this story is about how cool being rich is. Yes, Peter worked with Tony at a time and yes, Tony gave him a suit as a show of support of Peter backing his side. However, the difference here is the story was about Iron Man consuming Peter’s identity and autonomy. Tony manipulated Peter to his side and used Peter as a brand mascot while spying on him and indirectly controlling him through the suit. So Peter rebelled, reprogrammed the Iron Spider suit, changed the colors back to his original design as a giant fuck you to Tony Stark. The major theme of Civil War Spider-Man was about respecting Spider-Man’s independence and autonomy. He was pushing back against controlling and frankly authoritarian nature.

It’s common that people go to the Wikipedia page and use that as a summation of the story, but they often lack the why it is happening when it’s not explicit. Usually I go back to my fuck large huge stack of volumes and print those out but I ain’t in the mood.

Now like I said. MCU and by extension Disney chose to erase that when all prior Disney adaptations upheld it. It’s disrespectful to Spider-Man fans and Jewish American people who are sick of the ‘goy washing’ or erasure of their representation.

I’m a little sick of explaining this (not to the above blog but to people who love to deny the possibility that Peter was conceived of as a Jewish character) but Spider-Man legitimately could not have been depicted as an openly Jewish character at the point of inception. It wouldn’t have been published. That’s what people are failing to get -- the Protestant card has always been a flag being waved like “look! He’s not Jewish! Wink wink.” It was a way of getting all the Yiddish and the Jewish subtext into the book, a handy little “we know how this looks but really he’s PROTESTANT.”

Meanwhile, in the same body of work, Peter was referring to nuns as spooky ladies and failing to recognize what communion wafers were, which, I’m pretty sure, if you’re any sort of practicing Christian, is a little tonally odd. So you’re left with either he has no religious identity altogether -- which wouldn’t bar him from being Jewish even if it was true, because Judaism is an ethnoreligion and it is possible to be genetically and culturally Jewish without subscribing to the faith itself -- or it’s just the bull and the red flag: a distraction because they legitimately couldn’t have gotten this into the book at the time. I’m not saying it wouldn’t have sold; I’m saying it wouldn’t have been PUBLISHED, at least, not in the form we know it. This is why Ben Grimm was only canonically referred to as Jewish on page in 2002, even though Jack Kirby featured him on his own personal Hanukkah cards wearing Jewish religious garb decades earlier. It’s why Kitty Pryde was such a big deal when she hit the scene in 1980, a little curly haired proudly Jewish girl wearing a magen david necklace. (Two things she is currently consistently drawn without, in case we thought it actually got any better Jewish representation wise.) When people claim that there was never any Jewish intent behind Peter Parker it just showcases their lack of knowledge about Jewish history and the oppression of the Jewish people in media.

Peter Parker has been a superhero longer than Tony Stark has. He was never REALLY Tony Stark’s intern in the comics...not in the way the movies portray him. He was BROKE, and Tony was offering him MONEY. And safety for his Aunt and wife. Of COURSE he took that job.

Also note that the one time that Peter Parker had money and success of his own was when Doc Ock stole his body, and since getting it back, his selflessness ended up running his company into the ground.

Liberals challenge Conservative leader to attend Ottawa Pride; Scheer’s office says he supports gay rights but won’t march in parade.

The Liberals are challenging Andrew Scheer to end his “boycott” of gay pride events after unearthing a 2005 speech the Conservative leader made suggesting same-sex marriage cannot be considered marriage at all.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale released a video of the speech Thursday that shows Scheer, then 25, explaining why he opposed the Civil Marriage Act, which legalized same-sex unions in Canada.

“How many legs would a dog have if you counted the tail as a leg? The answer is just four,” Scheer said, paraphrasing a quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln.

“Just because a tail is called a leg does not make it a leg. If Bill C-38 passes, governments and individual Canadians will be forced to call a tail a leg, nothing more, but that is not inconsequential, for its effect on marriage, such an integral building block of our society, would have far-reaching effects.”

In the speech, Scheer said the most important thing to society is raising children because society’s “very survival requires it.”

“Homosexual unions are by nature contradictory to this … Two members of the same sex may use their God-given free will to engage in acts, to cohabit and to own property together,” Scheer continued.

“In that sense, they have many of the collateral features of marriage, but they do not have its inherent feature, as they cannot commit to the natural procreation of children. They cannot therefore be married.”

He’s protesting the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) in Mauna Kea! Say the name of the location and who’s trying to set up the TMT!

Jason Momoa says he can’t start shooting “Aquaman 2”… because he “got run over by a bulldozer” while protesting construction of a giant telescope on land considered sacred to native Hawaiians.

“Sorry Warner Bros we can’t shoot ‘Aquaman 2,'” he wrote in an Instagram post. “Because Jason got run over by a bulldozer trying to stop the desecration of his native land THIS iS NOT HAPPENING. WE ARE NOT LETTING YOU DO THIS ANYMORE. Enough is enough. Go somewhere else.”

In a followup post, Momoa asked fans to support the protest movement, writing, “During this time, we are trying to unite both kānaka and Hawai’i born peoples alike to protect not only the mauna, but also our way of life and greatest natural resources in Hawaii as a whole.”

Momoa has spent several weeks protesting on the highest point on the state of Hawaii, Mauna Kea, in an effort to stop construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT), a $1.4 billion scientific project underwritten by a group of universities in California and Canada as well as partners in China, India and Japan.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also has been protesting the construction of the telescope last month, he made a surprise visit to the dormant volcano.

Holy shit.... Never Again Action (the group who started #JewsAgainstICE) had an ICE detention truck drive through them while they were shutting down Wayne Detention Center in Rhode Island this evening (August 14th).

Apparently an eldery protester who was hit by the car had their leg broken/fractured and recieved some back injuries. A hospital spokesperson refused to give any updates on their condition, stating patient privacy laws.

Art Spiegelman pulled his Marvel Folio Society intro after Disney demanded that he not criticize Trump

The Folio Society has announced a series of volumes paying tribute to the history of Marvel Comics, the inaugural volume was originally scheduled to feature an introduction from Art Spiegelman, the creator of Maus and the first person to ever win a Pulitzer Prize for a graphic novel.

Marvel is a division of Disney, and its chairman, Isaac ‘Ike’ Perlmutter, is a longtime personal friend of Donald Trump, donated to Trump’s campaign, and serves Trump as an “unofficial and influential advisor.” Spiegelman’s intro made reference to this fact, and tied the origin of Marvel with its thin-veiled allegories about fighting fascism, to the contemporary moment, comparing Trump to the golden age Marvel villain “Red Skull” and dubbing him “Orange Skull.”

In response, Disney/Marvel demanded that Spiegelman redact his essay, removing references to Trump. The corporation said that it was trying to be “apolitical…and is not allowing its publications to take a political stance.”

Spiegelman refused to make the change and instead severed ties with the project. His unredacted essay will appear this weekend in The Guardian.

Reply “yes,” and the conversation begins. Reply “no” and you go into the Conservative database as a non-supporter — valuable information for the party either way. The text identified the sender as the Conservative Party. Perfectly legitimate. But how did the party get that cell number?

The same way they got mine I suppose. A few days later, the same message appeared on my iPhone. It all felt a little like a variation of something the country has seen before.

It brought to mind the Robocalls scandal that tainted the 2011 federal election, which delivered Stephen Harper’s Conservatives their only majority government. As someone who took a very close look at those dirty tricks, I was reminded of two other facts we should pay attention to as a new election looms.

One, most people know little or nothing about a global organization called the International Democratic Union, which is dedicated to getting right-wing parties elected around the world.
