Okay picture this: 9-1-1 season 10 episode 1 "Heat Wave" (normal title because LA is hot and heat waves result in emergency situations, no one suspects a thing.)
Episode opens on a bunch of off-duty surgeons in a bar. It's 2pm, but they've just gotten off a 20 hour shift. They are getting hammered and speculating about how they might perform an anal abortion on a pregnant cis man. While they talk, one of them has been getting increasingly red in the face until they finally collapse. The surgeons, thinking their friend is just drunk, try to help them up, but they moan every time they're touched and then they notice a dark stain on their pants. "Call 9-1-1" *cue title card*
The 118 crew, suspecting heatstroke with some... abnormal additional symptoms, takes the collapsed surgeon to an emergency room. At the emergency room, a nurse handles the intake, exasperatedly complaining they've been inundated with patients displaying the exact same symptoms but it's not like any heatstroke they've seen before. Seems more like there's an outbreak of something.
Some other stuff happens. They trace the infection back to the first people infected, who were bitten by rats that carried the disease.
At the end of the episode, there's a press conference with scientists who confess that they were experimenting on on rats and trying to make an omegaverse virus for gender affirming care reasons but when they suddenly lost their funding, they released the rats into the wild. They had no idea the virus would be able to jump species to humans, but now that they have, the original scientists have surrendered all their research in the hopes that it will help develop a cure or vaccine.
Then there's a time-skip of a few months and a couple normal episodes where LA gets used to alphas and omegas. It's established in b-plots of these episodes that Buck and Eddie are acting more chipper than usual. (It is not revealed at this time, but they got together off-screen and are hiding it from the rest of the 118 because it's still new and they don't know if it will last.)
A couple episodes later, Buck and Maddie are talking and he's asking questions about her pregnancies and when she asks why he's so curious he dodges the question. Throughout the episode he's shows exhibiting typical pregnancy symptoms, nausea, weird cravings, mood swings. The episode ends with him going to Chimney and Maddie and showing them a picture of an ultrasound with a small baby, they don't know how to react until he says it's HIS ultrasound and HE is pregnant. They know even less how to respond. They ask "who's the father? The other father, I mean."
"It's Eddie's." (Whose name is NOT Buddy, I just learned from my brother who actually cares abt this show.)
The next episode starts with Buck and Chimney talking at the firehouse, and Buck is insisting that Chim NOT tell anyone he's pregnant. And he's totally still okay to work because pregnancy is not that big a deal and he's only a few weeks so it's not affecting him that much. Anything can happen.
In the background—and this is important—Eddie has a bowl of ice cream and he is using it to dip his tortilla chips in. He's Mexican so you know something must be up but his co-workers don't think anything much of it except it's a weird choice.
About 10-15 minutes into the episode a thunderstorm hits after a the dry spell established in the early episodes and there's a massive pile-up on an overpass. 118 responds. The trucks can't get onto the overpass and they can't get to the cars in the middle. They have to park under it and access with the ladders to get to the center of the wreck. Very dramatic. Buck is in the middle of everything. He helps the last victim out of there car. He's about to climb down.
BOOM! Struck by lightning. Again! Yeah this show had already jumped the shark so hard that I believe audiences will accept this.
He's rushed to the hospital. Drama drama. Doctors say things.
Eddie: "But he's gonna make it, right?"
Doctor: "He's alive for now, on a ventilator. He'll likely pull through. Unfortunately, the same can't be said of the baby."
Next episode has the 118 taking turns babysitting Theo and watching Buck. Interspersed with Buck having a coma dream about being happily married with Eddie and Theo and Christopher and a new baby. Also interspersed with flashbacks of how Buck and Eddie got together (spurred on by the influence of the omegaverse virus they didn't realize was affecting them because their symptoms were coincidentally fairly mild, but crucially not CAUSED by the virus).
While Eddie is watching over Buck, a nurse comes in to change is IV or smth and sniffs the air (the nurse has been afflicted by the omegaverse virus and being a nurse has quickly gotten familiar with pheromones, something that most people still don't really get). Nurse can tell from Eddie's pheromones that there's something up with his health and eventually asks if he might be pregnant.
Eddie: (laughs) That's impossible I'm a... (remembers the omegaverse virus that he was 100% definitely exposed to) man....
Plot twist! They're both omegas and they (were) both pregnant.
Now in the midst of Eddie angsting about A) his secret boyfriend getting struck by lightning again and B) his secret boyfriend hiding a secret baby from him and C) his secret boyfriend's secret baby getting spontaneously aborted by an act of god—now Eddie is at a hospital getting tested and discovering that he is also pregnant! The doctor asks immediately if he would like to abort the baby, saying most of the pregnant men they've gotten since the outbreak choose to do so. Eddie thinks about it but says "no". (He's planning to baby-trap Buck, which will succeed even though they are both already single fathers).
Meanwhile Buck is still in a coma, he's having a hard time waking up because even after realizing it's a dream he's so happy he wants to stay. Eddie goes back to check on him, telling whoever's there to go get some food and take a break. When they're alone, Eddie confesses to Buck that he's pregnant. This causes Buck to wake up but he wasn't aware enough to realize why. When the episode ends, it's unclear whether or not he actually heard Eddie and knows.
The next episode has some comedy around Eddie not being able to tell if Buck is treating him extra nice because he knows about the pregnancy or because of the coma dream where they were a happy family. Buck wants to reveal their relationship to the 118. Because of the coma dream or the pregnancy? Buck wants to have a date with Theo and Christopher so they can all get used to each other. Because of the coma dream or the pregnancy? The episode ends with Buck and Eddie revealing their relationship and the Eddie adds that he's pregnant and Buck's the father. Buck is shocked! He did not know! The two talk privately, Eddie (lying) says they don't know how to perform abortions on cis men yet because it's so new so unless he miscarries he has no choice but to keep it. Buck never considered aborting his pregnancy and never asked about it so that sounds legit to him.
The rest of the season is Eddie attempting (successfully) to baby trap Buck into proposing. Buck is oblivious to this manipulation because he already wants them to be a family and does not need to be baby-trapped because he thought his coma dream was a sign from god.
The season ends with a needlessly graphic birth scene under extremely unlikely circumstances (like all 9-1-1 births) and when he's holding the new baby girl (who's name is Roberta, as an homage to both Bobby and one of Eddie's female relatives, idk if he already has an established relative with that name, if not it can be his great grandmother or smth, she will be called Betita tho), Buck proposes. Eddie says yes. Season finale.
ABC, feel free to use this without crediting me. In fact, you have to now. All the fans will be disappointed and stop watching if you don't use this exact plot for season 10.
