A mangkukulam is a folklore version of witches which originated from the Philippines and resides mostly in rural areas. These individuals are infamously known for using dolls and casting curses (eg. insects surfacing on the victim's body) to inflict pain and suffering in exchange for money. They would utilize dark magic and are often seeked by the vengeful. The mangkukulam also has the ability to summon evil spirits and according to legend, they appear as ordinary people and are known to the public as spawns of Sitan, the dark lord. Myth Rewrite: Apolaki, deity of the sun has been captured and corrupted by evil incarnate himself, Sitan. Against his will, Apolaki engulfed the world in perpetual darkness and chaos. Kataran, demi goddess, daughter of Apolaki and a mangkukulam, was the newly appointed leader of their coven. Choosing peace, she strives to break the dark contract of Sitan. She was called upon by the Biraddali, the rainbow-mounting skymaidens, to fight evil and free her father from Sitan's chains. She was given the sword of Mayari, goddess of the moon, as well as the wings of Biraddali to help in her quest of freedom.
