It makes me sick to my stomach to have to do this again. But on Monday, April 5th, my youngest dog Jake suddenly lost use of his back legs. Upon going to the emergency Vet, he was diagnosed with having a slipped or herniated spinal disc. He lacks deep pain and the ability to urinate unassisted.
The options from here... Are limited. His regular vet referred him to a neuro specialist. The specialist wants to do an MRI, possibly followed by surgery.
I'm checking every avenue I can, every organization for help, looking into credit options, what ever it takes...
The MRI alone can run around 3000. Surgery? 6-7000. And the emergency vet doesn't do pay plans.
As it stands, I have about 5000, give or take, pulled together. If anyone can donate... Anything, I greatly appreciate it. I understand that many will find this... Frivolous for someone in my place. But we all have things in our lives that keep us going, hills we're willing to die on. I don't take the lives under my care lightly. Not when they were one of the few things that kept me going during my darkest time.
So, I understand if you can't, won't help. It's okay. This is my burden. But if you can, please. If you know any organizations or aid in Galveston Texas, that too would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE 4/9/21: Jake made it through surgery but has not regained use of his hind legs, and probably never will. HOWEVER his pain has been greatly reduced. I'll be returning to Houston tomorrow to bring him home.
As it stands, I went through a couple credits, such as Credit Care and ScratchPay, and still use a great deal of help as this is putting me far into debt. New estimate paperwork added above.
UPDATE 4/10/21
The good news: Jake is heeling and will be clear to get fitted for a wheelchair in 2 weeks AND the whole thing ran lower than anticipated at $5,835.
As it stands, my credit is... Kinda in the dumps, my boss isn't happy with me taking an extra week out, and a wheelchair will run a little under 300 dollars.
So if anyone can still help, I greatly appreciate it, but god, thank you so much to everyone who's helped thus far... I'm not sure Jake would still be here without all of it. His road to healing won't be easy, but I'm going to do my best to make sure he lives a good, long life!!!

I HIGHLY recommend checking out user mustangsart on twitter, who created the 5e Combat Wheelchair rule set! She has the most current version of the rules pinned on her profile (it’s free!) and has created a lot of other great ttrpg resources- especially when it comes to inclusivity.

As someone who's never been to pride and also had the kneejerk "why have kink shit at pride, kids are there" reaction, I think people should read more about pride and think long and hard about what the word pride in relation to LGBT people really means. Also read into "public indecency" laws and how they heavily targeted LGBT people even those who WERE behind closed doors. There's a lot that we younger lgbt people don't know and it would behoove us to try learning more and unpacking the homophobia and transphobia that we've internalized. Also think about why you don't worry this much about say Mardi Gras when you can find very similar things happening.
ok this is important to me. gaslighting is not a synonym for lying. it’s a type of lying. if someone says to you “the sky is green,” that’s a lie. if you say “the sky is blue” and they respond “no, it’s green, you’re wrong, your eyes are playing tricks on you” THAT’S gaslighting. the crucial requirement is that they try to convince you not only that you are wrong but that you shouldn’t trust your own senses. that you’re imagining something/hallucinating/dreaming. the abuser is trying to make themselves more of an authority on reality than your own mind, often with the goal of making you reliant on them to tell you “truth” from “fiction.”

the gaslighter has to know they are giving you incorrect information. they have to know, on some level, that they are manipulating you. If someone is giving you bad information because THEY have bad information, because their eyes and ears and perception can’t be trusted, it’s important to know that.
