Sierra Mist Undercover Orange

It was a tie in with that Get Smart reboot movie that I saw in theaters that same Summer. The movie was a fun watch, but that soda... That soda was so good.

It was just Sierra Mist, but they added orange flavor to the lemon lime without adding the shit that is artificial orange food coloring. That's the undercover angle. Its got orange, but it isn't orange colored.

The Outbursts of Everett True was a comic strip that ran in papers from 1905 to 1927, wherein the aforementioned Everett True regularly beat the everliving shit out of rude people as a warning to anyone else who might consider being rude. Men have not only been taking up too much room on public transport for about as long as public transport has existed, but the people around them have been irritated about it for at least a hundred years. The next time someone tries to claim that manspreading is a false phenomenon, please direct them to this strip so that Everett True can correct their misconceptions with an umbrella upside the head.

I’m very lucky to own a book that’s a collection of most of these comics (sadly not all of them) and would highly recommend hunting these down if you can. Sorry for the lack of a scanner but phone photos will just have to do.

I did the math to figure out how many furry forest critters my one hunter cat actually killed. Here are the numbers:

She’s 10 years old, but she’s spent the last year as an inside only cat, so let’s mark her down as 9 years old. As an indoor-outdoor cat, she averaged around 4 kills a week. According to this study, she was probably killing 16 per week. At least.

There are 52 weeks in a year, so my cat was killing around 832 moles, voles, rats, and mice per year.

At 9 years old, her kill count was most likely around 7,488.

I’m lucky that she only went after rodents and not endangered animals. With a kill rate like that, this one cat could’ve wiped out an entire species.

And that’s just one cat.

I just saw a (actually very good and well-intentioned) post estimating that, unlike in influencer haul culture, a lower-income person might use a pair of jeans for 2-5 years instead of buying new ones every few months as fashion changes. Granted I do NOT wear jeans every day so they don’t wear out nearly as fast, but my current ones are almost a decade old and only now needing to be patched (with mending I hope to get a few more out of them). I think the oldest item in my wardrobe is about 20 years old and that’s only because anything older is literal children’s clothing that no longer fits.

So now I’m curious - how long do you keep clothing before trashing it? Do you mend things you really love, or hold on to styles you still like that are no longer trendy? What’s the lifespan of your wardrobe?

Most of my closet is stuff I've had since high school, but I also have a shirt that I think my mom got when pregnant with me that I nabbed in middle school for pajamas. It is falling apart at the fringes, but it has this cute kitten print on it and has that sentimental value to it so I feel bad throwing it out.
