a broken link is a kind of dead wife
Listen I get it but you CANNOT use "sensory nightmare" as an excuse to avoid essential things. You HAVE to find a way to make it work, such as finding effective alternatives. But you can't just avoid it.
You need to eat some vegetables in your diet or you will become a lich.
You have to wear a life jacket or you will literally drown and die.
You need to be able to exist in public spaces with children.
You have to find a way.
good LORD the piss is flying all over the place in that comment section! If you're poor do NOT leave your house you're definitely gonna get caught in the crossfire.
How dare you say poor people shouldn't exist in public
Sprints at you fast as fuck
i'll never stop holding the opinion that systemic subjugation of women and children under patriarchy is not a result of degenerate sexuality or "urges" out of control btw. there's a reason ted bundy (yes, the serial killer) jumped at the opportunity to tell the religious right in an interview that he was corrupted by pornographic magazines. in fact i've seen the right increasingly cling to this perspective precisely because they feel it absolves them
Having a traumatic childhood means you cannot talk even objectively about your basic foundational experiences without it being "venting", even if you're not actually venting. You just straight up have a huge chunk of your life you can't talk about, full stop, without it being trauma dumping.
And it not being socially acceptable to talk about your own childhood is super alienating. Sometimes people want to know why, and any answer you can give them is going to be off putting.
It's to the point I get irritated when something I said is framed as venting when I'm literally just talking about my life experiences, doing my best to keep emotion out of it.
when I was in high school, I overheard two older students talking about a friend of theirs.
One of them said something like, "it doesn't bother me that [Friend] was in residential mental health treatment, I just wish they wouldn't talk about it ALL the time".
The other replied, "Well, that was all of last year for them. So when they say 'when I was in treatment,' it's like when you say 'last year'."
I try to remember that any time someone says something that sounds Shocking to me. sometimes one person's scary special crisis is another person's last year.
If you want to be accepting of mental illness, you need to accept the fact that some people's everyday lives are going to be terrifying to you. That doesn't mean they don't get to talk about it. Stop forcing hurt, isolated people to become even MORE hurt and isolated because you can't fathom toughening up a bit.
republicans: homeless people should be ground into sausage and fed to schoolchildren
democrats: persons experiencing houselessness should be ground into sausage and fed to schoolchildren
this post posits a utopian world where either of these parties would support feeding schoolchildren, making it a masterclass in "hopepunk"
Thoughts on ai generated “art” (in all forms)?
I am really worried about what it means for human creatives and their ability to make a living through art that there is now a widely accessible and cheaper option than having a human person create something, and the resulting enshittification is already terrible. That being said, I think the countermove of pretending that AI creations are in this or that manner always easily distinguishable from "real" art is hurting more than it helps because telling the two apart hasn't been that simple in a while and we're already seeing issues of people being accused of using AI without proof simply because their work includes certain things which have recently become associated heavily with generative AI. I think pretending that there's a certain inherent soul to all human creations and that everyone can always tell the difference is a cope which is doing more harm than good and isn't resolving anything.
rip to the guy who posted his very expensive yixing teapot to r/tea, only for the comments to be not compliments on his taste as he expected, but instead GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY and I SHOULD CALL HER. he then crossposted it to r/gongfutea, which is ordinarily more dignified and self-serious, but was it? was it?? of course not, because this is reddit, and this was the teapot
Hello there's no company anymore because you were too busy looking at pictures of boys in trouble to do any work - The boss
explained to an 8 year old that once a fruit is ripe you only have so much time until it rots so you have to eat it soon and she said so i'll never be able to keep it perfect like this forever? no and there are about a million pieces of art for you unrelatedly
Cock from Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines (2004)

counting crows knew shrek 2 would become one of the best movies ever made and had to act accordingly

when I see people who say that becoming a marxist made them miserable I just cannot relate at all.
(also for what it's worth i don't know if that's something any significant number of people say, since the only place I see people say that is in screenshots that right-wingers post to gloat about, and i've never had any of the marxists i know actually say this to me, so this whole phenomenon could easily just be right-wingers screenshotting their own sock-puppet accounts, but I digress)
I already knew that the way the world works right now is fucked way before I became a marxist. it was obvious to me since i was young that the people working the hardest are often the most impoverished, that the wealthiest people usually do little to no work, that unemployment, poverty, and homelessness were solvable problems that people were deliberately choosing to not solve.
all marxism did was help me understand why things are this way, and how they can-and will- be fixed. before marxism the enormity of the horror surrounding us was too immense to be comprehended, and certainly too immense to be solved. marxism gave me a detached, analytical, scientific way to understand these phenomena, and thus to solve them. it made the incomprehensible comprehensible, the unsolvable solvable. it gave me a sense of clarity, purpose, and hope that I never had before.
Having a "stupider people have done this" attitude about the things you want to do can open so many doors
