Prostitution being ‘the oldest profession’ is a complete myth. A woman imbedded in an egalitarian hunter/gatherer society doesn’t need to swap sex for food, she has all the knowledge, tools, and resources she needs to feed herself.

For a woman to only be able to feed herself through transactional sex, requires a stratified society with food surplices, which would require agriculture first to create those surplices.

If a woman is swapping sex for any resource (food, clothes, coins), then the making of those resources came first, and as others have already pointed out, here and under other posts, midwifery came earlier than any other ‘profession’.

Saying ‘both can be true’ makes no sense anyway, if some of the first women in prostitution were slaves, then capturing and trading in slaves came first.

So, 5? Because the caveat was that the killer went free, not that they got a different charge and still went to prison. Out of how many? 5 out of 23. And that's just the ones who died. And I would normally assume it was death by strangulation for all of them, but I've been down similar roads and don't trust anyone who acts like this stuff is a regular occurrence.

I also don't see any data regarding the time period these deaths spanned. Not to mention the lack of information regarding the numerous people who have rough sex, including being choked, and don't die.

According to the website I sourced this from, 34 additional women were killed during ‘rough sex’ whose killers were sentenced appropriately for murder. So 77 in total. I cited the ones whose killers successfully used the ‘rough sex’ defence to reduce their sentence or be acquitted.

That’s not relevant, at least not to OP’s point. Of the 77 UK women murdered by their partners who attempted to plead the ‘rough sex’ defence, 23 successfully evaded proportionate justice. So if a woman’s partner strangles her to death, there’s a 30% chance he will not be convicted of murder and will get off with a lesser charge. Therefore OP’s point still stands.
