Oh you have a grievance about how you’re being treated? Who cares because “man”. You’re feeling the impact of being repeatedly excluded from spaces? Ugh just like an entitled man demanding access to everything. Don’t enjoy how everyone now associates you with harm, toxicity, or hatred of women (as if we LITERALLY DONT STILL GET TREATED AS WOMEN UNLESS WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO PASS)?? Well that’s your choice you decided to be a traitor. Oh and don’t forget you’re no longer allowed to have an opinion on the reproductive organs you still possess in your literal body.

Like I truly need specifically young people online to go outside and interact with real people. We are allowed to be hurt by the mistreatment of people supposedly within our community who make it very obvious they don’t want us in said community. And look, you’re obviously entitled to creating your own spaces and if you want those spaces to exclude trans men then so be it. But you don’t get to hide under this weaponized guise of women vs men. Y’all are doing the terf/gender essentialism shit again under a rebrand. Women aren’t a monolith of soft, ephemeral beings incapable of harm and men aren’t absolute brutes hellbent on disenfranchising women.

And tbh I feel this has GOT to become an instance of don’t feed the trolls. It’s very obvious every instance of trying to defend yourself is met with either “you’re a confused woman who’s gonna detransition” or “Man™️” so why let people bully us? I do not owe anyone an explanation of my character and if you’re the type to assume my character based on a single descriptor, you’re not worth anyone’s energy.

John Oliver Buys $15M of Medical Debt for $60K and Forgives It All, Because He Could

Once again John Oliver proves that you can do anything with money and lawyers

Oliver then proceeded to detail how with $50 and knowledge of the law he was able to successfully apply online to create a debt buying company named “Central Asset Recovery Professionals,” or as Oliver put it, “CARP” named after “a bottom-feeding fish.”

After setting up a rudimentary website for CARP, the satirical, but still real company was offered a $15 million package of medical debt for $60,000.

Oliver explained that the debt was out of statute, which means it is the kind of debt that a collector can only continue to collect, but not sue the debtor for.

Then, instead of chasing down the 9,000 debtors in the debt package as a normal collection agency would, Oliver decided to stage the largest one-time giveaway in television history and work with the nonprofit RIP Medical Debt to forgive the $15 million with no consequences for the debtors.

RIP Medical Debt is a charity (and therefore takes donations). They buy the rights to medical debt and then forgive them. So far they’ve forgiven over 1B in medical debt.

I’m as bricked up as the next dude and love seeing hot trans women all day, but sometimes when I click the trans pride/trans/etc tags I just wanna see some inspiration or cool art or god forbid similar experiences/worldviews.

But it’s just bot account after bot account of the same cookie cutter fantasy trans woman. I wish clicking any trans related tags showed you more than one genuine post per fifty spams.

surprisingly forward-thinking of jim henson and co. to make a female character in the 70's that's allowed to be loud-mouthed and violent and kind of overwhelmingly romantic and even a huge bitch at times and not have a moment where any character asks her to change

going through all the muppet movies in a row made me realize that like. miss piggy was made in the 70's. and it's so rare even today to have a character like her. she's loud, she's selfish, she's funny, she's extremely vain, she's obsessed with romance, she's violent, she's kind of annoying, and there's not a single moment in any of these films where she's asked to tone down any of these personality traits. i am not joking when i say that miss piggy might be one of the best treated female characters ever written

I never hop on posts but Miss Piggy is a sensitive subject to me.

I think the beauty doesn’t just lie in the fact she’s never asked to change/be made to feel she’s too much. Instead THAT’S HER CHARM AS A CHARACTER. That’s the brand of Miss Piggy that you’re supposed to see and say “good for her” as opposed to “wow it’s nice Kermit et all put up with her”. Not to mention there are multiple instances where her confidence is the key to solving their current problem. She takes up a very specific space within the muppets that no other character can and I honestly love that depiction of a friend/family unit that compliments each other so well.

some reasons possibly worth mentioning: the insecurity of databases (Discord's had multiple leaks; databases being hacked isn't possible to prevent afaik, it's a matter of mitigation), the dangers of putting one's govt id on such a database, the technical problems people are already experiencing where it's already been established, how it will disrupt communities

Now is not the time to move. Now is the time to confront this technology and make it unpalatable for any platform to roll out. If we just hop from platform to platform, it doesn't solve the issue, just kicks the can down the road. Eventually, some law or something will make that irrelevant and then we'll all have fragmented across a bajillion platforms, diluting the power of each userbase. The problem is not the platform. The problem is the desire and ability of tech companies to implement invasive and faulty technology to comply with laws that are both actually illegal themselves in a lot of cases (if a higher law conflicts with it, it's a bad law) and also fundamentally undemocratic in disrupting our ability to socialize and, yes, organize if we want to (which is a right that is protected by democratic legal systems). The original author of the Substack is doing an important thing by reminding others that the threat is not gone, I just respectfully disagree with their proposed answer to the problem. Non-solutions based around individual consumer choices are how we've gotten where we are now. We need legislation and, in the meantime (because both together are required), a staunch and steadfast refusal to comply. That means we don't go through the process because "it was quick and easy" and "doesn't really apply to me personally anyway". It means we stick to our guns even when it's been going on for a while and EVEN WHEN IT GETS INCONVENIENT.
