UNG Log Galactic Calendar 20410 08/09 - It has been almost 10 Galactic cycles since the war the Gâlang and their empire of oppression. The Galactic Council has been working tirelessly trying to put back the planets that have affected the most. But many of the soldiers from the other planets have been having a hard time dealing with the war afterward. None so much as the soldiers from the Sulin, who have alot of honor and pride in themselves. The Terrans have been sending out their counselors to help handle the aftermath of war. The Death worlders describe them as fox like, with human characteristics, and nine tails. I have been assigned to mentor a young Sulon, named Gazor who has been having a hard time adjusting back to his planet. I am to arrive tomorrow to visit with him and try to figure out what is going on.Â
UNG Log Galactic Calendar 20410Â 08/10 - Â Arriving at the interplanetary port was interesting, lots of stares and lots of pointing fingers, claws, or paws; yeah lets go with paws itâs a little more accurate. A tall female Sulan was waiting for me, we entered black hoover car much too fancy for a regular Sulin.Â
âHi Iâm Sam, what is your name?â
âMy name is Faulina.â
âDo you work for Gazor?â
âYes, in a sense. I work for his family and their business. But I have been Gazorâs friend since we were young pups. I have been concerned about him recently.â
âIâve read his file, but what can you tell me about him?â
âWell ever since the ending of the war, and the accident he hasnât been himself. Lately he has been distant, and acting a little strange.â
âOk, thatâs understandable. But if he came from what I assume is a well to do family, why join the war? Why not just stay here in the safety of the planet?â
âAs you know, we Sulin are very prideful and honorable. So everyone serves in the military regardless of their status. This ties into the fact that the more honorable you are in battle, the higher in status you become. Dying in battle is considered a great honor, but coming back wounded or showing cowardice is considered a great dishonor to you and your family.â
âHow does the planet treat him?â
âLike I said, status and honor is everything here. So while the family name is still mostly intact in the public eye, in private itâs a different story.â
As we drive through the city, the streets are clean and the beauty of the city is exotic but you can tell that it has been thought out. Everything has a purpose, everything is put in a particular order and way.Â
âDeathworlder, I mean Sam how did you come to hear about Gazor?â
âI got a request from his family, and it was put at the top of the list. So I guess it was a political move, or a business move if I had to guess.â
âDo you mind if I ask where you come from?â
âIâm from Texas, itâs a State or Province in the United States.â
As we were making small talk along the way, we pulled up to a large home, something like a famous movie star or a rich person would own. I was led inside to the room where I would be staying. As I was unpacking, an older Sulin came in.Â
âGood Sol, I am Yulo the father of Gazor. Thank you for making it out here, as you know I am concerned about his social status after all of this. So please if there is anything you need just let me know.â
âYulo, Iâm not here to bring up his social status or to make him popular. I was hired to help him, thatâs it nothing more or less.â
Yulo sighs deeply, âI donât think you understand the situation you death worlder. Status is everything on this planet. Pride and honor, is how we live on this planet. So his status is everything, and our family honor is at stake.â
âWell I donât give a damn about any of that, all I care about is making sure he is healed properly. That him living was not a mistake, and that him being alive after the attack was not a mistake. That he should have enough pride and honor, to be standing here with his family.â
âIt would have saved the family the trouble, if he had died on the field of battle than being alive. Especially with the election coming up. A Sulin without honor or pride, might as well be dead.â
A young Sulin walks in, just as Yulo said that.Â
âWhatâs all the noise about?â
âNothing son, this is Sam. He comes from the planet Terra, he is a death worlder. I brought him here to help you.â
Yulo walked out of the room, just leaving Sam and the young Sulin.
Sam held out his hand, âHi nice to meet you Iâm assuming you are Gazor. My name is Sam, my friends call me Sammie.â
âNice to meet you Sam, Iâm Gazor the eldest son of my family. The next in line to assume the head of the house. When I was serving my friends called me Gaz.â
âNice to meet you Gaz. Is there a particular place you feel comfortable talking?â
âYeah actually, itâs the garden my mom was always at when she needed to think things through. So it always helps me, and I think it brings back the happier memories. But there is nothing wrong with me, if that is what you are thinking.â
âOf course, I just want to talk, thatâs all.â
They walk down to the garden, and talk about what is going on in life. However Sam could tell that maybe he is not telling everything. These conversations go on for many Sols, every sol talking about life on Sulin and Terra.Â
UNG Log Galactic Calendar 20410Â 08/15- Â It has been almost about a week since Sam stayed at the Gazâs home. Every night he could hear soft crying, restlessness, and pacing in the Gazâs room which was down the hall. The conversations have been getting more intense since the first day. As they were walking down to the garden, Sam asked Gaz.
âDo you mind if we talk about what happened?â
Gaz looked sharply at Sam, and made an angry sigh, âSure, well we are on a patrol on the Gâlang planet. I was behind the first guy of my squad, we were at one of the forward operating bases where most of the fighting was the most intense. We were doing house searches, and collecting intel. You know the pretty standard stuff. As we were making our way down the road I noticed something in the distance. I threw the Caom to the ground behind me, a pulse rocket went off from a Gâlang waiting to ambush us. The rocket blew up at my walking paws, and then I remember yelling, explosions, and then Iâm on a transport. I wake up in the hospital, and one of the bottom paws is gone. That idiot of a doctor saved my life, instead of letting me die with honor they took my paw and made sure I lived. I later found out that I was the only survivor from my squad. They got to die with honor and pride, and here I am with no honor, no pride, no family, and one walking paw. Iâve got nothing, except this: stupid fake paw, bad memories, no honor pride or happiness, and restlessness nights. I shouldnât be alive right now.âÂ
Gaz starts to weep into his front paws. Sam reaches out to hold him and says âItâs ok man.â, but Gaz pushes Sam away and yells at Sam.Â
âGet away from me. You donât know what Iâve been through. You donât understand the pain, the suffering, youâre just a death worlder who my father hired. A common lowly employee, thatâs all. You and youâre fucking race of being so perfect, so indestructible that nothing happens to your people. How can you understand that?âÂ
Before Sam could say anything, Gaz was already running back to the house. Sam sat there for a while thinking about what he talked about with Gaz.Â
Later that Sol for the last meal of the day, everyone was sitting at the table except for Gaz. Sam walked up to Gazâs room and started to knock on the automated door. âHey itâs Sam, Iâm coming in.â
He saw Gaz sitting on the side of the bed, with a phase pistol in his front paws just staring at it. He looked at the back of the night stand, and saw a half empty bottle of alcohol.Â
âHey buddy, whatâs going on?â
âI was thinking of taking my life, maybe that will make everything stop. Maybe my honor and pride will come back. Maybe my family will love me again.â
He raises the pistol to his head, and starts to cry. His paw starts to shake.
Sam slowly walks over to Gaz, and says âHey Buddy, its ok everything is going to be ok.âÂ
Sam helps lower the pistol away from Gazâs head.
Gaz says as he is crying, âIâm such a coward, I canât even do this to restore my honor and pride.â
âYou are not a coward.â
âYes I am, couldnât even do this right.â
Sam holds Gaz tightly and says, âYou are not a coward, and I know how you feel.â
Gaz says back, â You donât know.â
Sam stands up and removes his long sleeve shirt. His left arm is mechanical, and he has a lot of scars. Then he puts it back on.Â
â A roadside explosion on Gâlang. I saw it pulled my guy away from it. I shielded him from the explosion, but in the process my left side got fucked up. My arm, most of the ribs, a lung, some of my hearing, and my eye was heavily damaged. So basically Iâm half robot now.â
âI thought deathworlders were unkillable, indestructible.â
âNo we are not indestructible, hard to kill yes, stupid sometimes, but we can get hurt.â
âWhat about your honor or pride? Why havenât you taken your life to get back your honor?â
Sam sits next to Gaz, âIâve tried and was almost successful. See I was in the exact same spot as you were. I was drinking and taking pills to stop the pain, and eventually my wife and kids left me cause the couldnât canât anymore. The left until I was able to accept myself. The world seemed even more dimmer after that, nothing really interested me anymore. The world seemed cold, and unwelcoming. I was in a really dark place, and thought it was a mistake. Kept asking what was the point of all of this pain. Then the guy I saved found me, and said that thanks to me he gets to see his family again. When he said that I knew it wasnât a mistake. So found a help group to lean on to bring me back. So in return I became a psychologist that works with species that have trauma. I knew that this was why I survived which was to help others in need.â
âHow can you have honor and pride?â
âRemembering the brother and sister in arms that didnât make it was how I was going to honor them and myself. That being here and alive, and helping others is my pride. If you want to look at it in a messed up way for fun, I look like a badass cyborg.â
Gaz starts to laugh, âSo what about now?â
âWell my family worked things out, and now I get to be a parent again. I get to help others with words, and be there for them as well help them heal. I get to help put the Galaxy back together one species at a time.â
âWhat got you through all of this? What makes deathworlders so strong?â
â Itâs a lot of things that make us strong, but for me I think itâs hope.â
Sam took the pistol away from Gaz, and said âYou have something here, someone who is waiting for you and cares for you deeply, as well as remembering and living for your fallen squad members. So that is how you gain honor and pride. â
âI know so, come on letâs go down stairs and get some food.â
âYou have to figure that out for yourself.â
As they were walking down the stairs, Faulina was standing at the entrance way with a little smile.Â
UNG Log Galactic Calendar 20411 01/25- Every sol since the incident, Gaz has been more open and more willing to talk about his problems. His father would sit in as well, and they argued but they each came to terms with each other. Watching the debate on planet broadcast, Gazâs father was questioned about his pupâs cowardice, all he said was âWhen I look at my pup, and what he has been through I would say he is not a coward but an honorable Sulin. To wake up every sol, and face his problems head on, that to me is something I can be prideful in and that he should be prideful in himself. So my young pup if you are watching, I am sorry for the hurtful things that I said, and proud that you are my son.â Over the coming days of the election, it was clear that Gazâs father was going to lose the election. When he did lose it was no surprise to anyone, but at the dinner party Yulo gave a toast to the guests and the other Sulin that supported him and said âIâm glad that I lost, but Iâm glad that my pup is home finally. You honor me for being here. Every word that I said was true, it may have political suicide but I would do it again for you.âÂ
UNG Log Galactic Calendar 20413 Â 03/01- Back on Terra, Gaz and myself would exchange messages and keep tabs on each other, and when who was gonna visit who. One day I got a request to be back on Sulin for Gaz. He finally found out who had been waiting for him, now I have to brush up on what a Sunalin is during the ceremony; I think I am supposed to be the best man. About time that hard head dummy finally figured it out, cause I was not getting any younger.
