in general, it’s beneficial to think of identity as a descriptor rather than a rigid bin. the minute you start thinking “I want to do xyz but i’m a [identity] so i can’t” you’ve fucked up. The role of identity should be to describe your experience not shape it.

“i’m really attracted to this woman, but I’m not gay” OK, do you want to affirm your identity, or do you want to explore a new life experience?

“when I feel safe with this person, sometimes I wanna submit to them, but I can’t because I’m a dom” OK do you want to rigidly conform to that label or do you want to let yourself feel safe and taken care of?”

identity can be extremely valuable for understanding oneself, and communicating that to others, but you will be happier if you understand it as a sort of descriptive shorthand rather than a set of categories which you must aspire to or work to fit into or conform to 100% of the time
